Honestly I think a Spock whose behavior actually reflects the fact that he's a child of two worlds is far more interesting, original version be damned. Chalk it up to the millions of imperceptibly minor changes in causality stemming from Nero's arrival if you really need an explanation.

That's what I was about to ask: If you have only a cursory knowledge of the characters and universe, is this worth going to? -seems like it so far.

overall awesome movie, and pretty good as far as a trek movie goes... wouldn't say it's the best trek movie, but for a sweet ass summer popcorn action fest with the star trek stamp it delivers on time

edit 2: upon further consideration I really wish they would have taken that wolf-cry spoiler approach and used the guardian of forever, it wouldn't have been as generic a device as black holes warping time
