PS2 was made of its two buzz word components.
The Emotion Engine, and the Graphics Synthesizer

So I just scored a PS3 and was wondering where the best deal is for an HDMI cable. I know some of you have scored decent ones on the cheap and I'm looking for a little help.
Holy savings batman.
That post hurt me.
Exactly. :D
Thanks guys.
If you care about BC, buy a 60-gig ASAP.
Me too Praxis, me too.
I'm going to have to put a 60gigger on layaway this week, so I won't end up without it. No way in hell am I buying the retard pack.
As long as poor white trash exists, so will lay-away.
White trash in Puerto Rico?
It's spreading like a plague.
I'm in no rush to get one, but I want it before the 60 giggers disappear. Layaway lets me pay it off little by little without having to come up with $500 at once, which can be better used on my kids.
Clarification on the BC on the 40gig issue:

The sheer numbers of PS2 titles available, together with the increased complexity of using a software only solution for each and every title means that to ensure accurate software emulation for the majority would be technically challenging, time consuming and costly. As we have mentioned on several occasions, our engineering resources are now focused on developing new and innovative features and services for the PS3 and, as a result the 40GB model does not have backwards compatibility with PS2 titles.
This is living.
LOL @ Sony. That's just plain lame.
More and more, I'm not feeling too bad about buying my PS3 when I did. Sure, waiting for $500 would have been better in the end, but at least it's not a gimp model. I can't believe how screwed-up Sony's hardware business model is this generation.

But I don't know, maybe the vast majority of people really don't care. We do, but we're pretty fringe in the grand scheme.
It's like when Nintendo removed the Component-out port from their GameCubes. It seemed absolute insanity to me. I would have never bought one new at that point, but then, I already had mine. How many sales did it actually cost them? And how much money did it save them?
From the looks of it Everyday Shooter is released this coming thursday.
I heard Everyday Shooter was soon, didn't realize it was quite that soon. I've been looking forward to this for a while.
Everyday Shooter and Puzzle Quest. It's an expensive week for downloads.
James
Everyday shooter is $10
R&C and Conan Demos.
all this afternoon.
Excellent. I've never been a R&C fan, but I'm interested in seeing the technical achievement, as it appears to be a beautiful game.
Cool, looking forward both of the demos.
Demos are up, 1,6gig for Ratchet lol.
That should take a couple of days to download.
75%, almost done.
also, at first when i read that, i thought you had said 6 gigs, i almost spit out my soda.
ok finished the demo.
Its R&C in HD, hahah, thats about the only way to describe it. Animation is great, gameplay still seems to be fully in-tact and the same. The demo is all those rail clips weve seen although it stops right before the rail boss.
Its a contender for the F of B2G1F in a few days
Sounds like I'll wait for it to hit $20.
damn, simpsons doesnt come out till the 30th, i just played teh simpsons demo. I would much rather get the simpsons game then ratchet.
Impressions on Everyday Shooter yet?
I was on the fence about it, but I caved and got it and so far, I'm gonna say it was worth it. Very cool game.
Ratchet seemed pretty cool. Could possibly be my 2nd PS3 retail purchase.
Buy Everyday Shooter, it's great. Or at least lovely, abstract, musical, and with good shooty action. Whichever.
James
Everyday Shooter is the best game on PlayStation 3.
I suck at Robotron and every game that controls like it, but I guess I'll pick ES to once again prove that to everyone on my friends list.
I heard that this game does not have leaderboards?
Just got Everyday Shooter. It's really outstanding. I need to put more time into it to figure out the intricacies, but from the little bit I have played it is well worth the money. The bad part is, it does further prove how awful the analog sticks are. :(
Ah, cool, I'll have to try that. I started playing with the face buttons because the game felt that bad using the right analog, so hopefully this will help.
So I played some more, and this game is easily the most original and fun dual analog shooter to come out. The amount of thought that went in to each level is staggering. I have only been able to get through 5 levels, but from what I have seen each level is not only visually completely unique and beautiful, but they also have ridiculously awesome soundtracks and completely different ways you need to go about playing them to not only survive but also chain and earn points. ::end run on sentence::
My favorite level so far is the second, the awesome viral style of the level is fucking great. The little nodes that grow based on how many nodes are connected to them, and chaining based on killing the one with the most connections is pretty damn awesome. I'm sure I don't like some of the other levels yet because I suck at them, namely the third level. Fuck that stupid huge eye.
My complaint still stands that the analog sticks on the dual shock are stick fucking awful. Turning up the shooting sensitivity helps a ton, but it unfortunately doesn't get rid of the slippery and loose feeling that the right stick has when you are trying to be accurate with it.
Longevity wise, it seems like for a downloadable game they packed in a shit load of extras. The game actually gives you incentives to keep on playing and trying to earn as many points as possible through unlockables. It looks like there are a good number of graphical unlockables and sound unlockables that do who knows what. Along with all of the stages available to unlock plus extra lives and stuff like that. Very cool addition that will most definitely keep me playing this for a while.
Anyone who has a PS3 and enjoys shooters NEEDS this game. Plus anyone who owns a PS3 who enjoys awesome unique games NEEDS this game. B-Ri, you're an idiot if you buy Lair and don't buy this game.
Did B-Ri hack Brand's account? :p Good to hear this isn't just another run-of-the-mill arena shooter, though I still think it's weird how there are so many of those as of late.
Yeah, I'm not one to normally gush over games (edit: Ok, yes I am, but this one deserves it, fo sho) but I fell in love with this one. I played Geometry Wars non stop, so I was already a huge fan of this style of shooter. This one just took the awesomeness to the next level, I really cannot recommend this enough.
PS. It shits all over Super Stardust.
Thanks Brand, I am buying this.
So.. leaderboards are out, according to GAF.
W. T. F. Ten dollars stays in my account.
Yeah, I am serious. It's a damn arcade shooter. How can this not have leaderboards? This isn't the freaking Wii. I haven't turned on my PS3 for about two months. This could have changed that, but nope
It's a stupid mistake you're making, but it's yours to make. Seriously bad move, though.
James
Just got Everyday Shooter, it is alot of fun. It reminds me abit of Rez where each explosion/interaction has a cool musical note. Can't believe it is all done by one man and it sure shows a labor of love. Great game.
Did I accidentally throw it away, or does the BT headset(that comes with Warhawk) not have a registration code?
When I go to register the headset, the only one my PS3 sees is Kelly9000 and I don't have a code for that.
ive had nat 3 and all my headsets have worked fine. remember that most PS3 games are PTT (push to talk), cap thought his headset was broken in warhawk until he figured that one out.
you also need to sync it with your ps3 and make sure you set the input outputs on voice communication to the headset.
Everyday Shooter is awesome but it really needs 360 degree shooting instead of 8-way. Still should be a definite purchase for anyone that likes the genre.
R&C is confirmed as a never purchase but that's a damned nice graphics engine. LOL @ ripping off Sonic Adventure 2 yet having no sense of speed whatsoever.
Sony's decision-making process explained.
This would normally be confirmed as a "never purchase" for me as well. I never got into any of the other Ratchet and Clank games, but admittedly I never really gave them a shot passed the first level.
Plus, I've been surprised by some of the games I've enjoyed on the PS3 so far. I didn't think there was any way in hell I would end up liking Resistance, and I found it to be more than fun enough to play all the way through. So, I decided I'll give another Insomniac game a try, and I pre-ordered Ratchet...In other words, I need as many games as possible to justify that $600 price tag ;)
I just couldn't get into the R&C demo. I was bored the whole way through.
I actually enjoyed the R&C demo, and I've never been a big series fan. I think it was the disco-ball gun that won me over. You just can't go wrong tossing a grenade into a troop of line-dancing robots.
James
Yeah, so Everyday Shooter is incredible, aside from the no-leaderboards and 8-way direction thing.
Add another to the "couldn't get into the R&C demo" crowd. The game is damn beautiful, but the gameplay was just blech. Shitty targeting, basic shooting/beat em up, and the whole "destroy the boxes for powerups" style gameplay just didn't do it for me. Granted that is exactly how the other R&C games played and I didn't like them, I figured I would give this one an honest shot because it is so gorgeous.
And yeah, the 8-way shooting in Everyday Shooter pisses the hell out of me. I can't tell you how many times I died because of how fucking inaccurate that stupid gun is. I still <3 the game, but why they wouldn't fix something like that since it would be so simple is beyond me.
I do still need to try out that Simpsons demo, I may do that tonight.
I didn't like the Simpsons demo, but some of the quips are pretty funny.
So, I played it (a friend has it). The lack of leaderboards isn't the only thing (or the biggest) keeping me from buying it. It was part Rez, part EEE, but just was not a lot of fun. I didn't feel like I was shooting anything for a couple of reasons. I wasn't a huge fan of several of the enemy designs, but it was more the lack of sound effects that did it the most. It's cool that each level is totally different, and some of the music is good, but as a dual-stick shooter, it was eh. I'm getting a tiny bit tired of these to begin with (I never thought I would say that), but the ones that are out are better. GW, SS:HD, Mutant Storm...the former two especially are very balls to walls. This is like "Two stick shooter art project", which is cool and all, but doesn't make for a lot of fun to me.
Credit for being a one person game, but even then, I have seen much better (or let me say "more fun", which I think is the end goal anyway) in that respect. I'm looking forward to his future games, though.
for those who dont have 360's and cared, Lost Planet on its way toPS3, early 08
news coming from the same source that announced SF4, lets seee....Quote:
Games Radar says the PS3 package will sport 16-player online over PSN, as well as include "all bonus characters" from the PC version and "extra downloadable content" from the 360 version (apparently "made possible" by the platform's capacious Blu-ray format).
I disagree completely.
Games are quick, each level is ridiculously unique with interesting enemies/gameplay styles and each level plays out completely differently depending on whether you're playing to survive or for score. Lots of significant unlockables too. It's easily one of my favorite downloadable games on either the PS3 or 360.
Oh, and there are sound effects, but like Rez, it's all instrumental and designed to blend into the soundtrack.
IBTN... There's already a DX10 Lost Planet as well.
Both of those games suck ass.
Sony announced today a cheaper model of its PlayStation 3 in the United States. The new 40GB PS3 model, which will be avaible for $399, comes bundled with Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray Disc. Available Nov. 2nd. The company also cut the price of its 80GB model to $499. Effective today.
Stolen from TeamXbox.com
any word if the 80 still has bundled games or not?
I knew they were going to drop the price of the 80 before christmas, although all it really was was removing the extras.
Any mention of the 60gb? $450 now im guessing.
40gb, no BC
60gb, best BC
80gb, OK BC
Didnt say. I kinda assumed the 60 gig is still being phased out and the 80 gig still has the game.
i found the PR release. No mention of the 60gb, so grab them while they still exist if you cared about BC. They state 80gb has very limited BC. It still includes the games.
Yeah, find somebody who decides to price drop the 60GB to get rid of them, and pick one of those up. By far the best choice.
Eh...crappy PS Store update today:
Folklore "PSU"demo
Juiced 2 Demo
usual BD trailers
Also "Calling All Cars" is now $4.99 until the 25th.
Capcom confirmed that the PS3 version of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition will have 3 new playable characters from the PC version, including Joe (NEVEC soldier), Rockman (Mega Man) and Frank West (photojournalist from Dead Rising).
I understand the reason the 80GB has poor BC (emulation), and why the 60GB has great BC (true EE inside). But why doesn't the 40GB have the software emulation?
The 40gig is missing all the chips to get even the software emu to work, from what I understand.
GT5 Prologue demo on the F-Chan marketplace. Downloading now.
In a recent interview, some super-excutive Sony guy admitted that the reason BC isn't included in the 40 GB version is to force people to buy PS3 games rather than just play their old shit til the end of time. He actually says that Sony will save very little money by leaving the feature out. Incredible.

So GT5 Prologue is exactly what you would expect. Gorgeous game with the same bland GT gameplay. There are a good handful of cars in the demo including the new Skyline, though the front end and the rear end are covered with those stupid black covers. Only 1 track obviously, and the most disappointing part is no cockpit view available.
So basically, this is a demo of a demo? I wonder if it will show up on the US PS Store next Thursday?
