No, I'm pretty sure I never called either of them "really bad games." Dull and soulless, though, sure. :tu:

I do like a few PS2 games though. Some of my notable favorites would be: The Maximo Series, Jak Series, Sly Cooper Series, Zone of the Enders 2, God Hand, God of War, Rygar, Shadow Hearts, and Wild Arms 4.
I like all of those games, but I'm just saying that I still prefer more pick up and play games like: Cannon Spike, Crazy Taxi, Mars Matrix, Zero Gunner 2, Zombie Revenge...and so on. I just don't see enough games like this these days...unless maybe I start importing.
then you got more problems then we thought.

Agreed, Motorstorm is outstanding gameplay wise. It looks great, it plays great, it just lacks variety.
Resistance isn't anywhere near "REALLY REALLY good". Especially in comparison to the ridiculous FPS's that are coming out this fall. It's an fun mindless average shooter overall, with an average storyline, average atmosphere, and average weapon selection. I don't know if you played the same game I did, but there was zero "strategic weapon usage". The only strategy that you need is "which gun has the most ammo", and the idiot AI will take care of the rest.Quote:

And none of those moments proved to be any bit impressive/holy shit awesome.
I DID enjoy the game, but gushing over it proves how limited your experience is with actual great FPS's.
I agree with you about Motorstorm lacking variety. Hopefully this is something they will fix with a sequel somewhere down the road.
As far as Resistance goes, I respect your opinion that the game wasn't that fun for you. In my experience though, a FPS has to be really top notch in order for me to enjoy it...and I greatly enjoyed this game. That being said, maybe I did come off like I was gushing about it. In reality...if I had to give the game a letter grade, I'd say its about a B. Its obviously not as good as something like Half-Life 2, Chronicles of Riddick, or some of the other FPS that I like..but I did find the game to be addictingly fun.
i'm still waiting for something that justify's a $60 price tag. for the reasons already stated, while both Motostorm and FoM are "good", they're not $60 great.
i would say the same thing if it was the 360. there's less then 5 games currently on that system i would pay full price for. $60 is bs. i thought we did that already during the silicon scare in the cartridge days.
I agree that $60 is BS, but I don't regret paying the price for Motorstorm at all. Sure, if I could have reduced loading and custom soundtracks at $60 that'd be even nicer, and if I could have all that at $50 it'd be amazing, but $60 games are unfortunately a reality now. If we all railed against it and voted with our dollars there wouldn't be much to play. It sucks, but what is there to do at this point?
Hey, at least the $6 PS1 games on the PS Store are more reasonably priced than anything on VC.
yeah...to me...money is money. I accept the fact that games are $60 now. Its been a lot worse in the past anyways. $79.99 for Super Castlevania 4 anyone?!
I just buy what I want to buy when it comes out, and I don't spend the time stressing out over if I'll be able to save ten cents on it a week from now. If I get any enjoyment whatsoever out of a game, then it was worth the $60 I spent.
i was going to make a new thread but figured i'd put it here. some ideas that SONY needs to implement both in the XMB and the store.
- have an option to auto install downloads. it's dumb to wait for the download, then come back and have to tell it to install.
- handle the inbox better. afaik unless you see the prompt, it's up to you to manually go into the inbox to see if there's new messages. there is no indicator of any kind to remind you.
- if you're kicked off the network and in the middle of writing a message. please save it like cell phones do when you have an incoming call or message. it's dumb that i have to type it all out again just because my connection droped.
- add custom bg music. MS has been doing it TWO generation now. it's okay to blatantly rip off ideas.
- enhance the XMB customizing. backgrounds should only be the start. i want to see Vista Dreamscene style shit eventually. this is the all purpose "set top box" so fucking wow me, starting with the interface.
- redesign the Store. TOTALLY. it's ugly as sin and the metallic colored controller symbols are nasty. the guadiest (sp?) shit i have ever seen.
i agree about the ps1 pricing but give us more games. for fucks sake it's your own library. 2 games a week. that's all i ask for.
Yeah, Sony definitely needs to implement an in game guide of some sort. Not that I use the friends/networking features for anything, it would be nice to have for when I do.
I always wonder how people can complain about current games costing $60 when we got a lot less game for just as much, if not more of a cost during the 16-bit days.
$60 for Gears of War is a huge upgrade in value over $60 for Donkey Kong Country, even without taking inflation into account.
DKC is much longer than 30 minutes. And just because games were also a rip-off then, doesn't mean we're not allowed to bitch about it now.
[Edit]: Beaten. Wow, exact same wording too.
[Edit2]: Oh snap. Not quite. DKC.
Yeah, I don't agree that Gears today is somehow a better value than Donkey Kong Country was then.
Which, conveniently, you pay for. Not to mention that is a particularly bad example since the focus was on singleplayer; multiplayer was not much more than a last-minute add-in.
Oddly enough, I don't mind paying $60 for triple-A next-gen game. However, I do have a problem paying $50 for a triple-A last-gen game (e.g., waiting for God of War 2 to drop to $20).
Emoticon not necessary; it's the truth.
If you're comparing features, content, and resources it takes to develop, the average game today takes a hell of a lot more to develop, and there is a hell of a lot more included then the majority of games developed a few generations ago. Especially in the 16 bit era.
The only reason $60 bothers me is because while even in comparison to last generation the technology involved is far more advanced and requires far more assets, the content being put out isn't going above and beyond what was being offered. Granted there are a handful of games that are doing so, 95% of the games being released do not.
Nothing but truth here, but why not just pay the $60 for the 5% of games that deserve it and let the rest sit on the shelves until they drop down to an acceptable price level?
As quick as games drop in price these days, it's not too hard to wait a couple of months for the "good" ones to hit the $20-$30 range while paying the full $60 on day one for the few "great" ones.
Oh, I agree completely, and my statement was more targeted at the GoW/DKC comparison, and why a comparison of those 2 games and their pricing is ridiculous.
Now if you would compare GoW to Unreal 2004, Halo 2, Burnout 3, Half Life 2, Ninja Gaiden Black, Rainbow Six 3, and god knows how many other games released last generation, you would be hard pressed to get me to think the extra $10 is worth it. I'll pay the extra $10, and I have on worse games then GoW, but that doesn't mean I agree with it.
The majority of games I let drop in price, but I do end up getting suckered into a few $60 games. Call of Duty 3 comes to mind (so do Resistance & Motorstorm (lawl @ ps3 :( )). But games like Import Tuner for 360 (HI 2 U TOKYO EXTREME RACING) I'll pick up when they hit $25-$30, even though I know I will love every second of them.
What about the "extra" $80 you're gonna be dropping on Halo 3 LE?
I'm a sucker too.
yeah that stuff on the right side isn't even on my display. still doesn't change the fact that they still use those ugly controller icons (unless they changed that for hi-def displays as well).
wait...you have an f1 and warhawk download. i know the warhawk is beta but where did f1 come from? and lair?
That game took me like 2 hours to beat the first time through...and thats when I got it for Christmas when I was like 12. I'm fairly sure that after playing the game for awhile it can be beaten in 30 minutes.
I also remember Turtles in Time for the SNES being the same way. That one can be beaten in about 20 minutes too...for $60.
I really like Resistance; I think it's the second best shooter so far this gen after Gears. I'll take it over either of the COD games, either of the Ghost Recon games, FEAR or Rainbow 6; it's just more fun to play once you get it dialed.
I'm on my third time through it now, playing on Superhuman. Resistance is like Halo - the regular difficulty is pretty bland, but once you make things harder sudenly the decisions you're making matter more and the firefights are alot more intense.
I think they did an amazing job with the feel and creativity of the weapons; you unlock different things on each dificulty and by the end of hard mode you were a one-man arsenal. And they feel really solid to fire & reload, with the carbine I completely forget that the controller doesn't rumble.
The level design is uneven - it starts off pretty nondescript, has a couple of highlights in the conversion centre & the battle for Manchester, but doesn't do a lot to impress until you get to London. The battle for London Bridge, taking on the Goliaths in the snow and the ridiculous visuals in the tower are all pretty epic.
I can see it not being considered for all-time classic status or anything when the generation is all said & done, but anyone saying it isn't a good game isn't giving it its due.
I honestly don't find this game to be any fun or good at all. I can understand how there is added value by unlocking new guns through each playthrough, but the game felt so bland and generic, and I also think the stupid anlaog placement really hurts FPS's on the PS3. No matter what game I am playing, I always try to use the dpad to move, and some games just don't even allow that as an option, Resistance included.
I dont get why you whine so much still on controller. I go back and forth and to gamecube and wii with no problem. honestly its less than an inch lower your thumb goes. The Triggers maybe (cause i dont have a HUGE problem with it), but its the same ol dualshock youve been playing for a while.
Its the same dual shock I've hated forever. Ever since the Dreamcast, the PS controller has always felt like a step back for me. I don't give a rats ass if you don't mind or even prefer the PS3 controller, but for me, and I know many other peopl, the analog placement is retarded.
http://benheck.com/04-14-2007/ps360-controller
the thumb less than an inch lower isnt disasterous, just like me getting used to it an inch higher when i got the 360, you can handle it. youre a big boy.
It's not the button/stick placement that makes the Dual Shock suck so much as it is the parts themselves.
Every single input device on that thing feels like crap in comparison to the 360 pad.
And Resistance was crap for the first two or three levels that I played in co-op. Maybe it gets a little better along the way, but from what I played, it just felt like every other generic WWII shooter only with aliens instead of Nazis.
The Sixaxis (just like the Dual Shock) is a piece of garbage and one of the two reasons that I will get games on the 360 unless the PS3 version is just ridiculously better (which may happen in 2009). The marshmallow triggers, crappy analog sticks, placement of analog sticks...at least the new one might get rumble.
I've never liked the Dual Shock either.
You guys are making Andy's blood boil.
It really isn't even just the placement of the sticks, everything about the controller is just cheap crap.
Wow, fuck a PS3 controller. A dualshock with the worst triggers ever... AWESOME!
Japanese-style Saturn pad ftw.
I like three-dimensional video games. I don't play 2D fighters anymore.
Well, I'll play SSFHD.
I've never liked the Dual Shock either. The feel of the analog sticks is easily the worst of all the controllers out there now.
im suprised no one bitches about the other analog. Cause its basically the same thing, its not in line with the other. and its lower and "owwies too uncomfortable. Going back and forth between boht controllers is really nowhere near a burden at all. What is a bigger annoyance is just going through games with differences in the inverted axes (going from warhawk to gears and visa versa was a bitch)
Well, it would be fucking terrible if the right analog stick was moved to where the face buttons are, so I think the 360 pad gets it about as good as it can get. The left stick is the primary one, so that's why its placement matters where the right one's doesn't.
Hey, at least it isn't a remote.
New Rockstar franchise coming exclusively to PS3. I suspect this was motivated by the purported struggle to get GTA IV on the 360.
If they are the same, then why on the sony controller, there is a dpad where there should be a stick??? You do realize that is one of the points of concern, the major one being that the sticks themselves are just pure shit.
While I do think the Dualshock/sixaxis/shockaxis/whatever mundane feature sony tries to make sound bad ass they add in the future is a shitty controller, my point was that I, as do many others, prefer to use the 360 pad. Therefore, I will get any multiplatform game for the 360, unless the PS3 version just stomps it in every way possible.
Gotta agree with captain on this one. It's hard enough for me to play FPS's on the Xbox controller, let alone the dual shock.
more like Dual SUCK! Right guys?
blast factor advanced research looks like its mixing the game up with a bit more difficulty, looks cool.

(the video is in that link)
I will agree that the 360 controller is currently the best, but I guess it is a very subjective topic. What I CANT understand, however, is why so many people prefer the Gamecube controller. God I hate that piece of crap.
The original quote about GTAIV on 360 was that there were problems with both machines. Getting the Cell processor to work right was a pain, as was dealing with the possiblity of no hard drive. I still say GTAIV should be hard drive only, screw those without.
I was going to complain about the Rockstar/Sony press release, until I tracked it down and realized it was a blog entry-
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/...ve-to-the-ps3/
No title, no developer, no hint of when it's coming out. No information at all, really. For a press release that would be a complete waste of time, but I suppose it's passable for a blog entry.

sixaxis rumble next month.Quote:
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jul 11, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that gaming peripheral manufacturers Hori (U.S.A.) and Katana Game Accessories have both entered into patent licenses with Immersion, including rights for advanced vibro-tactile, spinning mass gaming technologies for dedicated portable gaming devices and computer and console video gaming peripherals. Hori develops peripherals and accessories for gaming consoles such as the Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo products. Katana designs, manufactures, and in September 2007, will begin distributing peripherals for Sony PlayStation products in North America. Under the terms of the license, these products will now bear Immersion's Feel The Game® TouchSense® Technology logo.
"All our products are built with the strictest standard of quality," said Yuuki Mizutani, of Hori (U.S.A.). "Rumble technology is one of the key features that makes playing racing and flight simulator games on Hori controllers easier and more realistic."
"As a company that has just entered the console accessory business, Katana is focused on providing very high-quality products to enhance the Sony PlayStation gaming experience," said Katana President Chris McGlynn. "We consider Immersion's technology a key ingredient and look forward to putting it to work for PlayStation gamers."
Hori and Katana (whoever that is) are all very nice, but until Sony brings out the rumble themselves there's not going to be any support. Plus, if Sony does something weird with the way their rumble is set up, compatibility might be a problem too.

the the 360 has that "happynet" or whatever where the XBLA games are beta'd before they ship and we kind of know what's coming out for it in the near future.
do we ever know what's coming down the pipe for the PSN?
Lair delayed til September. Assholes.
So was Stranglehold (even though its multi plat title)
They should delay it another year so it might be decent. Sony seems to have invested visely so far but what they thought when backing LAIR I will never know.

Positioning Warhawk's pricing is important for Sony, but the ripple effect has sparked debate within the 1UP Network. Sony won't tell us the pricing plans are, and as a result, EGM reviewers have been forced to include caveats in their write ups. Lead reviewer (and former OPM editor) Joe Rybicki actually placed a note in his review to EGM Reviews Editor Greg Ford that his score should be dropped a whole point if the price was announced above $30, and the other reviewers have expressed concern over how they should judge the game.
what headsets to people here use? i'v seen good reviews for the Plantrinics 320 at a lot of places. price is around $25.
