dyne (on the PSN) is not me everybody. i sent in the requests what my tnl board name is.
p.s. Bri is the only one to send me message love. my ps3 sits unplayed with no games and no messages. make it and myself happy.
Well, my 60g will be arriving hopefully next week. No games to play yet, but there is Resistance to rent :p
to me it'll be like panzer dragoon.....in a way. PD was a series that was brethtakingly magical, always had critial acclaim but never sold. i feel Lair may have a bit of that "specialness" just because it seems somewhat like a new gen PD but will have it's flaws and will probably not be a runaway success. i'm very much looking foreward to it myself. a rental for sure but i say that about anything lately since $60 is too much for me to justify on games i don't really "need".
somw new shit on PSN
GRAW 2 demo
Darkness demo
Blast Factor add on
RE5 wallpaper
movie(?) trailers
for those who even moderately enjoyed blast factor, the advanced research add on is a must get. The add on brings an updated engine to the entire game, with more sound effects, better visuals, better sixaxis response, ect. Alone, Advanced Research brings its own set of challenges and a more aggressive enemy and boss system then the original 7.
Seriously. Sometimes it's just ridiculous.
so because i say Bomberman LIVE is good im in the clear, but when its anything sony suddenly i am VM again?
Its an opinion, there are PS3 owners here, and i know some have bought blast factor.
If we wanna start throwing VM cards out there toss one at compass too, who trolls behind almost every thread i do to shoot down anything i say.
So what am I viral marketing? The B-Ri LoL Campaign?
But yeah, I honestly don't really think I pick on you. Some of the stuff you say is just impossible to take seriously, and really hard not to comment on. If you're not being paid by Sony, you're the most extreme fanboy the world has ever known.
You already know you're getting an infomercial every time you read one of his posts, just stop if you don't want to hear it.
The core gameplay in Bomberman Live is fine, the problems come from the various glitches and the low number of good maps.
Both of those problems should be pretty easy to fix if Hudson gets on the ball.
Your mom reads like an ad copy.
Well that's what the add on did. Just saying "its cool" isn't very informative. Its more challenging then the original and has REAL bosses.ill post videos later of advanced research maybe.
I will get it when I turn on my PS3 again. Between working 70 hours a week and playing a small amount of Forza, I can't do any gaming ;(
just saw that a release date (sept 11) for the GotY Ed for Oblivion.
http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=270131
$60 for the game again with downloads that should have been downloadable from the start. that's pretty fucked up if you ask me.
Ugh...I was hoping the GOTY Oblivion was going to be no more than $30. :(
with warhawk coming out soon sony is showing off their warhawk server cluster, lols shall be had by all.

its a whoooooooole lota ps3s
Good to see they found a use for the over flowing inventory.
Jesus, it's been 9 months since it came out and it's still so easy.
Just bought a PS3 yesterday and I wanted to know how often does the Playstation store get updated with new content?
im still torn. for now i just have the 20gig hdd and space isnt a TOTAL concern, plus the $30 price point is nice. i just dont think i would want to pay full price for the retail game (even with the goodies). how's the beta?
btw how do you get in ps3 betas? i know there was a setting on the SONY page when the ps2 was big that you could tick and tell them you would want betas (and as such i got EVERY online beta). can't seem to find it for the ps3. i'm in the GAP as well if that matters. i'm assuming i just bought the system and registered it too long after the beta began.
warhawk beta was open to anyone who registered on the warhawk official site.
Warhawk also did nto even hit a full gig, so dont be so concerned about it. PLus if was really an issue its extremely easy to swap the drives, the drives are a standard.
Concerning the game, ill post up my full review and details of it in the next week or so to follow the release. Its a lot to write about.
yeah ill swap the drive when i need to, but to spend $100 on a mesely 160 gigs (the biggest laptop drive) at this point is out of the question.

$190 for 250. I am considering doing this.
Got the new Play today. Heavenly Sword on the cover. Rated a 10.
Which really means it's a 6.
Does not compute.
/Play magazine really does give any game with any sort of hype a 9 or a 10, regardless of actual quality. Of course there are a few that actually deserve those scores (i.e. Gears, which definitely didn't deserve a 10, but a 9), the majority of those games that are rated highly are typically average games.
We all know Play gave it a 10 because the protagonist is a hot, scantily-clad chick.

The Entertainment Software Ratings Board may have left slip news on an upcoming PlayStation Network release with Konami's Castlevania Chronicles for the PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP recently rated by the organization. Castlevania Chronicles, for those not intimately familiar with their Castlevania remakes, was a PlayStation release from 2001, bringing the Japanese Sharp X68000 game Akumajō Dracula to North America for the first time. Akumajō Dracula was actually a remake of the original 8-bit Castlevania for the Famicom/NES.
The U.S. version came late in the PlayStation's lifecycle and at a relatively high price for what was basically a remake of a remake... of a remake? It's confusing. Regardless of how many layers must be peeled away to get to the source, the game's addition to the PlayStation Network should give Belmont Clan fans a chance to take a crack at this old-school action-platformer.
It should also give Konami a chance to drum up more hype for its PSP release of another remake, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.
No sex is better then sex with a fat chick.
Brand, you really need to distinguish between "then" and "than."
Nope, I'm cool.
Castlevania Chronicles rocks, it's the best old school Castlevania after Rondo(by old school I mean just a guy with a whip going through linear levels). Everyone who has access should give it a shot. It's hard as balls, too.
I'm avoiding direct comparison with III & IV because they mix up the formula a bit. IV with multi-directional whipping, III with the extra characters. Chronicles is like a pumped up version of the first game's template, just a Belmont with a whip & the standard secondary weapons. I like Super IV the best out of all of them though.
Just two really, since item crashes take Rondo out of Strider's equation.
Okay, so my classification was totally arbitrary. It's still good.
After having the ps3 for a few months I've noticed something I really don't like. That is when you are downloading something in the background, if you decide to play say a ps1 or ps2 game the download stops... I thought the whole point of downloading in the background was so you could do other things while it's downloading. I was wondering why it took hours for a download to complete...
In all fairness, the downloads stop on the 360 when you play a BC game, too.
never noticed, but i wasn't making a comparison. i don't play any xbox games on 360 never owned an xbox
Something else I've noticed I don't quite understand. My ps3 is set to 1080p. Games that have progressive scan settings when I change them to progressive scan it changes the output to 480p, but the games look better than at 1080p... The colors seem more vibrant... I don't get it
PS3 automatically deinterlaces and either stretches or doesnt stretch or sets the image to widescreen. Dont mess with the display settings in game, XMB does it all to your preferences. The only thing you should really be doing in-game is audio, cause PS2 games will auto to stereo, and if you got a system and you want PLII you need to go through the ingame settings.
I'd like to see you prove me wrong.
edit: After going through Play's review archive, I'm partially wrong. Dave Halverson gives everything 9 and above. Hell, he gave Motorstorm a 10. The rest of the reviewers there, after clicking through a good number of reviews, rate on a scale of 7-10. With the majority of games, even if they really aren't deserving of an 8 or above, get that score.
Even if you work for play, the reviews speak for themselves. You guys severely overrate a large number of games and hand out high scores to plenty of games that do not deserve them. Whether or not you are one of those reviewers it doesn't matter, but it does happen, and there is really no denying it.
Motorstorm, Okami, FFXII, and Odin Sphere getting 10's are just a few examples. All great games and at the top of their respective class, but they are by no means perfect, nor deserving of getting rated a 10.
No, you're right. I work at Play, I deal with the staffers, and I've personally known five of said staff members (Dave, Nick, Casey, Mike, Michael) for over ten years now. I've talked to those staffers, and others, directly about their opinions on particular games, or about various reviews that they've done.
There's no way I could possibly know more about this particular topic than you.
Dealing with the people and knowing with the people you work with != review scores they hand out. The numbers speak for themselves, and it doesn't matter how personally you know the people, because that isn't how people judge the reviews. The general public (including myself) judges the reviews based on the scores that are given to the games and not on "how personally shidoshi knows the people he works with".
Play does have a reputation for overrating or over-hyping some games. I remember Voodoo Vince for teh zboz got a 10. Lair got a 9 while other sources aren't so keen on the game and there are numerous examples in the past. I know personally I don't weigh Play magazines reviews too heavily but that stems from my perception of Halverson's shadiness and his kowtowing to moneyhats.
Okay.. so which games did I over-rate? Let's see a list. Because, I mean, you're lumping up every staff member of Play as a whole here, so let's see what you've got on me.
Off the top of my head, there's one game where I thought later it probably didn't deserve the score that I gave it: Tokobot. Most of the rest of the reviews I've done for Play, however, I'd stand behind 100%.
The problem here, however, is this:
See, this isn't an argument about Play's scores being right or wrong: it's an argument that Play's scores don't agree with YOU. YOU don't think those games deserved the scores that they got; but, since they did get those scores, obviously somebody did.Quote:
Motorstorm, Okami, FFXII, and Odin Sphere getting 10's are just a few examples. All great games and at the top of their respective class, but they are by no means perfect, nor deserving of getting rated a 10.
And the problem I have is that you're stating (as if it's fact) that Play's staff members give a particular score because of the hype behind a game, and I'm telling you that that is not true. You can think a particular staff member's taste in games is shit - I'm totally cool with that. But from every bit of personal experience that I have with Play's staff members, they give the scores they give because they honestly love (or greatly like, or hate, or whatever) those games.
You're saying that knowing a person personally doesn't mean anything, yet you're stilling here making a judgement call about people you know nothing about, and simply cannot realistically make without knowing the person personally.
I'm not saying you personally overrate games, I am saying as a whole, Play as a publication overrates a large number of games. All of the people who work for your magazine are representing Play as a publication, and not their individual selves.
Granted someone can choose to ignore reviews by specific people, that isn't how the average person who read the reviews (or simply view the scores) see them. For instance, when Play reviews are posted on message boards they aren't posted as "Bob Jimbo reviewed these games ::list scores::, shidoshi reviewed these games ::list scores::, Brand X reviewed these games ::list scores::", it is simply "Play reviews ::list scores::".
If the magazine was called "shidoshi", and you were the only person reviewing for the magazine, then yes, I would be wrong, but that isn't the case. There are a large number of reviews, regardless of who did the reviewing, that good/great scores were given to games that were simply marginal.
Of course reviews are subjective, but to sit there and give a game a 9 because the reviewer had "fun" with it without addressing the large number of other factors that go into reviewing a game is doing a disservice to all of the games that DO deserve those high scores.
I never said they rate the games highly because of the hype, I said they tend to rate games with a lot of hype highly. Which is absolutely true.
I am not making any judgment calls about any single person. I am making a judgment call about the publication, and I am absolutely allowed to do so. And if you read some other peoples opinions about Play, you would see that I'm not the only one who thinks this.
Come on, in what universe can Odin Sphere or Motorstorm ever be considered a 10? Aside from the more 'opinion' related problems, there's the crippling slowdown that infests too many stages in OS. While Motorstorm is like a content desert. I've played arcade racers that had more content. Giving them 10s kills the whole concept of review scores. You might as well give a 10 to every game that's ever shown in Play. Why it's done, I have no idea, nor do I really care, but it does mean that any review score from Play is worthless to me.
Why are people still talking about Play after all these years? It's a piece of garbage.
this whole argument goes to show why i READ reviews and don't even look at the scores.
You guys are arguing over a difference of opinion? Fuck the god damn score, if you enjoyed it then GOOD! If you didn't then GOOD! Get over it! Sound like fucking Protestants and Catholics... "My opinion is right!" "No, my opinion is right!" Makes for good web browsing.
Odin Sphere not deserving a 10 is a fact in the land of opinions.
What the hell happened, shidoshi? These are the same comments posters here have been making about the publication for years, but lately you seem to be taking criticism about Play as a whole as though they're direct insults aimed at specific staff members.Maybe you should read the argument before trying to bitch about it so you have some idea what you're talking about. Also, if you're just looking for just a single statement they now have websites which have previews and reviews on them, as opposed to a discussion forum.Quote:

Yes, no, maybe, hotdog, hotdog.
I did read the arguments before posting and the fact of the matter is that he believes certain games or as it seems to him all the games that are reviewed by Play magazine get overrated... and Brand X is right. On that same note the people that gave those ratings are right as well... And you ask yourself how can they both be right? It's because it's their fucking opinion!
Anyway I really don't care to add more to the subject. On another note regarding the ps3, I got my HDMI cables today and I decided to see what DVDs look like in 1080p. When I start the dvd up while it's loading the screen goes static and you hear static for about half a second and then it loads up and plays fine. Has anyone else seen this?
Hey, I have a custom firmware on my PSP, would it be unwise to do the whole remote play sync thing with my PS3. I'd hate for some shady sony security to brick my psp.
Worked for me, no problems.
gamer cards coming eventually.

Is Halverson still batshit-insane?
And who are you exactly? I look at the editor list and remember lots of names (mainly by their associated GF avatar or from GR), but nothing that screams "Oh yeah Shidoshi".
Shidoshi's the chick.
I thought Shidoshi was a dude...no red hair and labcoat then? You are screwing with my childhood here, lady...
(checks Play)
Heather Campbell? lol how did Dave let you preview Zak & Wiki? It does somewhat resemble a platformer, after all...
