That would be outstanding. CoD4 has a matchmaking system that works pretty well, but it still isn't as fully featured as Bungie's. Any matchmaking system is better than what Gears currently has though.

Hell, most great games only have one or two modes longstanding modes, because the gameplay itself is good enough and deep enough to stand on its own.
Halo 3 did the same to me when I went back to play Gears. I got used to the large number of useless weapons in Halo that when I went back to Gears I didn't pick up shit just to keep it simple.
It's called variety. Just because you can enjoy playing the same things ad nauseam doesn't mean other people do. It doesn't matter what the game is to me (even Halo), or how great the core gameplay is, without variety there is no way I am playing any game multiplayer for extended periods of time.
