The best and brightest dogs are bred to order. It's expensive but sometimes a pound pooch or neighborhood giveaway doesn't satisfy.

My sister got a dog from a breeder for her high school graduation, it was an purebred native to Ireland, so naturally we named him Bailey. Unfortunately for Bailey he was too clever for my mess of a sister to handle. He escaped every cage, every closed off room, and managed to shit wherever he pleased and get away with it. She barely fed him so he'd find ways to steal food from the kitchen, his greatest haul ever finding a way to our meatloaf on the kitchen counter. We had to sell the poor guy to someone who would take care of him better.

Anyway, smart dogs need a lot of attention.

I got Izzy from a pet shop, to be honest going to a pound did not cross my mind. 1st dog I have ever purchased so I went to the place I got my bunnies from. Sorry to piss you off but Izzy deserves a good home just as much as any pound mutt does :p

I have no idea why anyone would give him away. He's great with kids and other dogs, not a mean bone in his body (srsly) and extremely friendly and playful. And we adopted him through a miniature pinchser rescue. :) You'd be amazed, there is a rescue operation for damn near every breed.

The deciding factor was actually price. I got those for less than 190 shipped. What I would do with it is the same as I'd do with an Ipod, but I managed to find it cheap. It has its perks, I personally don't like how your Ipod will get scratches no matter what, the Zune has a matte finish which doesn't show fingerprints or scratch as much. But really, it was 90% price.

Tekken DR online, Ibara, and I returned my unopened copy of Bioshock for a net haul of two.

For such a great month-end of releases, I'm reluctant to spend $50-$60 on anything, even Bioshock and Prime 3. There'd also be months where I'd even consider borderline shit like Warhawk but for some reason not now. I think owning the three consoles is contributing to this reluctance partially due to indecision, but also as a subconscious cost control measure.

Found Fatal Fury, Raw Danger & Tomb Raider at K-Mart for $10 each. Everything else came from Half Price Books today, they've got a 20% off everything deal going on this weekend. The games were $4 each, the MST3K DVDs were $8 each and the G.I. Joe DVD was $12.

I got the totally badass Target special edition Heroes Season 1 DVD. The packaging is really worth the extra 8 bucks, but the bonus disc is pretty cool too. I was looking around on the internets and anyone that still has an HD-DVD Player might do well to get this set. Here's a description of the extra stuff that you get )besides the normal DVD stuff)

There is no behind-the-scenes footage edited in like most PIP tracks, so these essentially function as audio commentaries, except you can now see the participants. That's something of a disappointment, as what's generally such a step up about PIP tracks is that they integrated disparate footage in a way that audio commentaries can't. Anyway, at least the detail is there, with each track almost non-stop with comments; and, depending on the groupings of the track, a general focus (the effects crew on one, the actors and writers on another, etc.)

Next up are a trio of interactive features all accessible via U-Control, and presented consistently on each episode across all seven discs.

Coolest is the Artwork Presentation. Throughout the season, the character of Isaac creates a series of paintings, some of which integrate into the plot (and much to fans' delight, the show's expanding mythology). Cleverly utilizing high-def technology in a way standard DVD could only dream of, here you can zoom in on any of the paintings for a closer look -- a very neat way of using interactivity to offer increased insight into a feature's narrative.

The disc's "Character Connections" feature is also unique. As the season progresses through each episode, you can "chart" the characters as they inter-connect. The map grows as the series soldiers on, and by the end it looks like a giant plate of spaghetti. Pretty nifty.

Finally, Helix Revealed is the one function I found completely superfluous. The Helix symbol proves integral to the growing complexity of the stories, and this finder will pinpoint its location for you as it pops up in each episode. I kept this function on throughout, hoping that after a while some cool thing would happen or a secret bonus feature would unlock -- so far, no luck. (But if I wake up tomorrow with a Helix symbol magically tattooed on my ass, I'm blaming you, Microsoft!)

Before we more on to the web-enabled features on the disc, note that there is also a "Mind Reader" interactive game rather tossed off on disc five. Here, you pick a number between 1 to 99, mark it to a specific hero on a grid, and then wait as the Matt Parkman character psychically guesses your choice. Quite honestly, I was bored with this one after about five minutes.

Capping off an already-impressive package are a couple of Internet-connect nuggets. Note that before you can utilize these features, you'll need to make sure that your HD DVD player's Ethernet connection is active, and you'll also need to register online (in one of two ways, either using your computer through Universal's web-based form, or directly via your player's remote).

Once that's done, the highlight is the Genetics Abilities Test. Answer a series of questions to "discover" if you too have advanced abilities. You can then save your profile and share it with other would-be heroes online.

There is also a second Download Center portal, though as of this writing, not much is up -- just a trailer for 'Heroes: Season One' and the upcoming Universal theatrical films 'Talk to Her' and 'White Noise 2' (which, presumably, will be making their way to HD DVD someday). However, promised future content include 'Heroes' polling allowing you to share your opinions with other fans online, an interface to organize your HD DVD player's online storage contents, and other material to be announced. We'll be looking forward to it...

Lastly, I must commend Universal for really getting their act together with this U-Control thing. Not only could other HD DVD-supporting studios take a few tips from Universal, but so could the Blu-ray camp -- I've yet to see a disc this user-friendly. Some of the niceties include a video tutorial on how to use the U-Control features, as well as the ability to adjust the volume of the PIP features and the main feature, so balance is never a problem. Universal has also indexed all of the U-Control features in the menu for each episode, so you can, for example, find the Helix symbols or other content right away without having to just sit there and wait. Finally, Universal provides its now-standard MyScenes feature, allowing you to mark your favorite segments (complete with custom starting and ending points) for instant access even after you eject the disc from the player. Very nicely done.

Good choice. You might need to obtain a calibration DVD like Avia to get the most of your VGA connection. Nonetheless, VGA is worth it because of upscaled DVDs.

Does that calibration DVD even matter if he's planning on using it on 19" computer monitor?

Some people have complained about the appearance of washed-out colors when people use the 360's VGA connection on certain devices. A calibration DVD can help optimize a display to eliminate that problem.

vga looked really washed out on my DLP before the 1080p patch. After that its better but still washed out.

component is still more vibrant and clear. HDMI actually looks less vivid than component on my set. I used the DVE HD disc for calibration each time.

it really depends on the set you have, and even moreso the individual inputs on that set.

it's a 19" Viewsonic monitor (widescreen). i have a bit of ghosting on pc games (nothing horrible, but noticible) but an HDTV isn't in my future. and after seeing some of my bro's games on his SDTV i just want to poke my eyes out.

i wouldnt even worry about calibration then on a screen that size you wont really tell the difference, just adjust your sharpness and brightness levels and you should be set.

i'm pretty stocked. somewhat decent display and i already have a small pile of games to choose from. now i'm just wondering if i want to get a wireless bridge for it (and keep my pc wired) or do the reverse. either way it's about the same amount of money (and no way in hell would i EVER consider $100 for the "official" wireless).
