World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Mages are one of the four classes that can basically destroy a class in two or three global cooldowns right now. It's funny how most really overbalanced matchups were fixed: they gave rogues ways to deal with warriors, they gave mages ways to deal with warlocks, in fact I'd say that mages and rogues win those two matchups most of the time now.

Yet with the warlock/rogue matchup, possibly the worst one in the game, the rogue just keeps on getting more tools to destroy the lock with. Even with Soul Link, an extra 20% mitigation, the rogue can kill the warlock in the span of two or three attacks now. No need to even use Cloak of Shadows, he'll have one DOT on him at the most by the time the lock is dead.

From WoW's launch until BC we were horrible, didn't even have Death Coil to save us.

lol, I almost feel sorry for warlocks. They need some instant cast burst damage and some kind of shield or barrier. If i see a warlock on the opposing faction it basically means i get a free kill.

I think that they need to change a few of the core game mechanics if they really want to balance the game PVP wise, namely stunning. Everybody cries about how OP ret paladins and rogues are, basically because they can kill alot of people within one stun. I dunno how to fix this without completely nerfing both classes but something would have to be done. Fear would have to be adjusted accordingly though. Maybe scale them with a stat like resilience, where more of a certain stat = less stun and fear time or greater chance to break from them.


Also, rogue disarm is way overpowered at the moment. Disarms both hands for fucking ever, makes warriors one of the easier classes to deal with.

Fear should just make the target cower in place, and be broken by damage. Treat it like every other CC.

The problem with the spell is that it's retardedly overpowered when you can get off a full duration fear with all your dots on the target, they balance the whole warlock class around the fact that they are able to do this - when it might happen six or seven times out of one hundred casts of fear.

Fuck that spell, seriously. Remove it entirely if it means we get real defenses

I feel the same way about windfury. Enh shaman are left with jack because when the Jupiter aligns with Mars we can maybe burst you down in two seconds. Maybe.

Just take the shit out to open the door for things reliable and not proc based. PvE is fine now but the pvp side is still, and for me probably always will be, lacking. I didn't get the "OMG SHAMAN ARE OP" fun at the start because my first toon was a lock back when, as Dave said, they were just useless.

So, yeah, QQ more and all that jazz, but god I hate rep grinding in this game. I mistakenly thought I was just about there to getting the damn Talbuk mount I've wanted since like last summer (hey, I'm a casual player, and I ended up also spending a bit of time trying out a priest), but I was a moron and didn't realize that I still had a whole 21,000 points in rep XP with the Kurenai to get through before I can get one.

I'm hoping there is more Kurenai stuff outside of Nagrand, because otherwise it's either farm ogres for hours to get their beads or log in every single day and hope that by some strange chance the Alliance have actually captured Halaa on our server so that I can then kill some Horde for those PVP tokens. (Oh, and get more of that damn dust stuff.)

Rep grinds suck, yeah, but they're much easier now than before. Especially that one. I'm pretty sure Blizzard removed rep decay so that you'll now get the full rep gain from a dead mob, regardless of your level. Just go back to Nagrand after screwing around in Northrend for a while. It goes quickly.

Otherwise, there are quests in Zangermarsh that'll help.

BTW, you can use Wowhead to search for a faction, then choose to show all available quests that give rep rewards for said faction. Wowhead is goddamn amazing.

I think I've completed every single one of those. *laughs* Ugh.

The bead grind isn't bad at all, I did it for the Mag'har and I don't think it took that long. Watch some TV for a few sittings and then it's talbuk time!

The pvp thing is another issue entirely, Halaa is a ghost town so I dunno how anyone's ever going to get the pvp talbuks again.

If you want my opinion, grind Strat instead of beads. Baron's mount is a 1% drop now, despite that it's still so satisfying to finally have it.

Speaking of mounts, a friend and I are two-manning Bloodlord Mandokir in Zul'Gurub every time the raid is up for his Raptor mount. For a 75 Prot Pally and a 61 Holy, it's extremely easy (albeit time consuming) to do.

I can't believe no one runs the regular versions of the instances on a server as populated as SH. I spent hours in LFG for The Nexus and never saw a group form at all. :cry:

I need those damn quest rewards to get my def up so I can show people that DK tanks won't suck when someone who has actually tanked before plays them.

With that spec (well most of that spec, get rid of Demonic Sacrifice like.. now) you send in your felguard, you throw up Agony and Corruption (Elements and Corruption if you're playing nice) then Immolate and spam Incinerate until Immolate falls off, at which point Corruption and Immolate will need to go back up. It's a pretty fun spec, I've been using it a bit after I got a nose bleed from thinking so hard about my affliction rotation.

Also: You might as well macro your Demonic Empowerment to your Incinerate, since it has a one minute cooldown and doesn't trigger a GCD

Thanks, that's actually pretty much what I do right now. Mostly I made that post because I did some really shitty DPS in an instance (like mid-800s, lol) last week. I think I was still 79 then, and that was when I randomly assigned talent points and I realized afterwards I hadn't even bought spells from the trainer since like level 75. No glyphs either. But yeah, doing like 1400 DPS now so I think I'm getting the hang of it.

I used to not use Curse of the Elements at all so at least I've learned that much, haha. From what I understand, when a boss isn't moving much at all it's best to cast Curse of the Elements and Immolate, then just spam Incinerate? I dunno though, since I'd think adding Corruption would be nice since it could proc Molten Core and all. My main problem though was not knowing what to do when there are multiple mobs. Right now if there are two mobs I just cast CoA, Immolate, and Corruption on each; for 3-5 I cast Rain of Fire; and for 6+ I just cast Seed of Corruption and hit Tab, then Seed of Corruption ad nauseum until everything is dead. Is that ok or should I be doing something else? Also don't really know the ideal times to cast Fear and all that. A few days ago it was just the healer and myself alive in an instance and my friend told me to Fear the last mob. I wound up casting Death Coil and it almost aggro'd another pack of mobs. :(

Weird that you suggest getting rid of Demonic Sacrifice. I mean, I really don't use it much but from what I've read this is pretty much the best build for undergeared Warlocks and I figured that I just don't use it much because I'm an idiot and don't realize when my pet is about to die. :lol: After seeing the Affliction rotation I definitely think I'm going to go full Destro once I get decent gear as managing 8 dots doesn't really sound like fun to me. And yeah, I used to have Demonic Empowerment on a macro with Curse of Agony. Having it with Incinerate seems like it would be likely to have fewer downsides than the setup I had before so I might just do that.

If you ever need any help with quests or dungeons let me know, rikkudesu. I think when i first played about 2 years ago you were helping me around elwynn forest as we had botb just made our guys.

Now that classes have started, i wont be able to play as much, but i should be 80 by the end of the month. When i do hit 80 i need to get some serious gear as i havent really gotten anything good since 72ish.

No big deal to any of you serious players, but for a casual like me, this was a huge moment. The cave in the Southern Clefts ended up having bead drops of a very high percentage (at least versus the place I was farming beads before), so a couple hours each day for two days got me the remainder of the rep that I needed.

Oh no, I was there once! I loved the talbuks, I really did. But then I got my albino drake and forgot about all my other mounts. All 50 of them. They are meaningless now.

Yesterday morning I found and tamed Loque'Nahak, the game's only Spirit Beast pet so far. It spawns once every 8 hours (maybe) at one of 5 spawn points in Sholazar and has anywhere from 30-60 people looking to tame (or kill) him at all hours of the day. Needless to say, I'm glad my search is over.

I've run a bunch of heroics, which is way more end game pve than I've done with any of my other max level guys.

Pretty neato so far.

You should run Obsidian Sanctum and Vault of Archavon too. Despite being "raids" they're as short as heroics.

I'm quite surprised how many times people have asked me where I got my sweet mount in the short amount of time I've had my Talbuk. I almost feel a little special now. *heh*

In the first time ever in my WoW life (which started a few months before BC hit), I now have the highest level character my game currently allows me to have. I never thought I'd hit 60, let alone 70. I really wasn't sure I wanted to put out the money for Lich King just yet, but I guess if I want to do any more levelling I'll have to.

In a way, I'm kind of happy that I'm now max level for BC, though. I'm utterly bored of the Outlands in terms of style and atmosphere, and running the three territories I haven't done much of (Bladewhatever and then the two highest-level areas) is absolutely un-appealing to me. The snowy lands of Northrend and their less sci-fi / demonic stylings are far more up my alley.

Yeah Shidoshi, WoW's had a bit of a paradigm shift for early Wrath content. The addition of Achievements and rewards for them set a new "prestige" precedence for people to strive for. Wanna stand out? Have a rare title, on a rare mount, with a rare pet and Black Ice or Betrayer of Humanity. I get asked about Loque and Black Ice about 5 times a day, and with the lack of challenge for long time raiders it's a new kind of satisfaction to have.

I only spent a short time in the world before the Alliance got Shamans and the Horde got Pallys, but I liked that there was that difference between the two sides. Why does every race have to have access to every mount? What's wrong with certain races, classes, or even factions having something another doesn't?

It's Blizzard's new homogenization kick. Everyone can do everything! Sad that your plate-wearing, damage-soaking warrior can't DPS like a paper-wearing mage? Buff the hybrids!!!! And on-the-fly spec switching! Pro-healer to pro-tank instantly, provided you have the gear! (fuck hybrids, for serious)

It's a big reason I lost interest in the game.

I'm not sure that Blizzard could have properly balanced the paladin/shaman situation, though. Paladins really were a huge asset in nearly every PvE encounter. Really screwed with the WORLD-FIRSTs and all.

Of course, now that Blizzard has apparently given up on genuinely difficult boss fights, maybe it could have worked after all.

Even though Naxx was my first raid ever and all I do agree that this shit is really easy, but I also don't get to go to Sarth + 3 drakes. Have you guys done that yet? I hear the 10 man is pretty rough. :X

Yeah, that's one of the other things I was trying to remember but couldn't, the dual-specing. I already thought it was too slanted towards people specing themselves the same, and now people will be even LESS individual.

Uhm, I've felt that way ever since Burning Crusade hit, back when I was mid-20s into my first character. Right fro the start, I haven't liked a number of the "let's make it fair for everybody" decisions Blizzard has made.

Bliz fucked it up now, and it will just get worse. All is left now, sit and wait till Bliz releases new raid content, obidiently paying your monthly fees.

Or just enjoy the game without falling into the need to uselessly progress towards nothing.

So, I just read about this upcoming "hunters no longer consume ammo" thing on WoW Insider. As somebody who primarily plays a hunter, this might be strange to hear, but this change is totally ridiculous. Well I think the idea of having different items along the lines of idols/totems/librams that would fill the place of ammo is really exciting. I see a lot more customization and strategy behind picking which one to use on a certain boss fight than the current fill a bag with 1k of the exact same shit irregardless or situation.

Yeah, great, every Hunter has the same type of arrow; not my point at all. My point was that Hunters HAVING quivers and arrows in the first place was one of the factors that separated them from other classes, just like the concern over making sure you always had food for your pets. They were things that only Hunters had to worry about, and as such, were more ways in which the class felt different than others (just as I'm sure the other classes have their own quirks to make them different).

Now, both of those have either been reduced or will soon be altogether gone. I'm talking about the OVERALL change to make the experience more "equal" for everybody playing the game, instead of the push to more different experiences that there used to be (at least from what I've seen happening to the game over the time I've bee playing it).

Has nothing to do with all Hunters being the same you ignoramus.

For me, as long as they compensate the reduced need for personal upkeep (ammo, pet food, etc.) with another, perhaps new layer of focus during combat or otherwise (force us into some sort of shot synergy, remove mana altogether and bring back focus for hunters etc.) I don't really see the problem. Both of those other things were simply money sinks, and hunters were the only class that could actually run out of their main form of damage and have no way to recover it without going back into town. It was an inevitable change.

seriously, consumable ammo is dumber than soul shards. See also: feeding pets.

Having ammo as a special item with different characteristics has great potential for moving the class away from the boring piece of shit it has been since release.

Well, I mean, "boring piece of shit" is something I can't at all agree with.

Do I like the idea of different flavors of arrows? Absolutely! But that's something that could already have been done with consumable ammo. Money sink? I don't know, I've pretty much soloed the entire game (thus using more ammo), never really been in the money so to speak, and I've never not been able to afford my ammo.

Now, the running out of your main weapon, I agree and disagree. I think unless you totally suck at being a hunter, you manage your ammo and make sure you don't run out (and if you do, it's your fault). Now, since I don't do a lot of raid-type stuff, there may be ones that are so long that it can be very easy for a hunter to run out before it ends. However, I see it like this: if this was such a huge problem for hunters, it wouldn't have taken 4+ years for Blizzard to fix it.

This isn't like "OMG WoW is broken!" or anything, just sad for me to see yet another of the things that gave the game a bit of flavor being taken out in order to make the life of the player cushier.

If hunters got this change they would be the only class with this kind of mechanic. That would actually make them less like any other class.

I really do not get what you're talking about here saying this will make any class more equal, or the same, or whatever, but that's probably because to me this has raid application and context.

Do I like the idea of different flavors of arrows? Absolutely! But that's something that could already have been done with consumable ammo. Money sink? If you use the best ammo available at a store, the Timeless Arrow, with the exalted discount a stack costs 1g60s. As a BM Hunter I can eat through a full quiver of 5000 arrows in 2 wings of Naxxramas. I have spent 100g easily on full-clear nights.

It's just as you surmised. A BM hunter can chew through ammo like there's no tomorrow, and of course if you count the inevitable wipes/re-attempts, you'll typically have to refill a once full quiver at least once through the course of a night.

Saronite Arrows are even crazier. To get a quiver's worth of arrows it's 2 boxes, which is 30 saronite bars. No other class has remotely this actual gold cost upkeep just to do its job.

Trial, are you still going BM even after the nerf?

All my hunters jumped to Survival.

I am survival right now, but my heart belongs to BM, especially after catching my lazer cat. BM is seeing a number of un-nerfs to their spec, and with 3.1 ferocious pets are getting a new tier of talents, which should hopefully bring them back up to snuff.

My friend at work is our main hunter now and he said the changes in 3.1 look to be making all three specs roughly the same dps, just with different ways of doing it, which sounds pretty awesome.

If that works out I wouldn't be surprised if Mages were up next.

I find that with most non-hybrid classes you can get roughly the same dps with each spec if you know how to play them.

That is certainly not true for mages, hunters and warlocks currently. Also, pre-3.0.8 elemental shamans would greatly disagree with you.

Dude has shown up for one half of one raid so far.

He's good but with a two night raid week now you can't really miss a night and a half.

Also! Here's what happens when you run out of raid content by 11pm Wednesday. Best bug ever.
