Okay, GG Shinobi I can understand as it's better (and different) than any Lynx platformer, and GG Aleste kicks ass like nearly all Compile shooters but Panzer Dragoon Mini? Can you honestly say it's a better looking and playing rail shooter than Blue Lightning? The Game Gear wasn't designed to handle 3d games like that, and it shows.
And yes, I have played my Lynx, Game Gear, and original Game Boy pretty recently. I was comparing them when this thread first appeared. I finally added CyberVirus to my collection late last year and it's great.
Can you link to a video of the game being played appropriately? I mean, I'm sure I can find some when I get back but I gotta run for a while.
Semi-related, but I picked up the Sega Pocket Arcade LCD Panzer Dragoon for dirt cheap years ago and it's actually quite good for what it is. You can look in all directions around you, the radar works, etc. Just... the music/sound/whatever it's supposed to be will destroy your brain if you leave it on. It's might be more PD than PD Mini is. End of tangent!
That wide flat piece of plastic ain't even good for playing Joust, and you only need left and right for that.
holy shit.
No, seriously
No. The GameBoy has better games. I said the typical Lynx experience sucks. And I stand by that.
I'd be blown away if you could introduce to me one person who read your IGN article and bought the Lynx collection you highlight, and then actually enjoyed playing most of them.
No, but in light of variety on one particular system, Panzer Dragoon Mini does just fine when I need a super retro-primitive rail shooter fix.
And I'll have to try CyberVirus.
I just saw an original model Lynx for the first time a couple weeks ago. What a monstrosity that thing is. It makes the Game Gear look compact by comparison.
It's really almost as if you've actually never met someone who enjoys different things than you before. You treat them like chimeras that you've only heard of but won't accept. I understand being opinionated, but what you're doing is borderline delusional.
I have a friend who first got a Lynx about 3 years ago, bought a lot of those game, and enjoys them. It's not that weird. You sound like a lunatic the way you're claiming consensus.
But I know a lot of people that like those games. There are a few that are personal favorites that I acknowledge aren't that accessible (Electrocop for example) but I don't think they're controversial for the most part.
In fact nearly all the feedback on that article was not regarding games I should have left off, but people who thought I should have included even more games. So figure that one out.
From this side of the fence it is consensus.
It's not that weird.
I just really didn't think there'd be anyone on your side of the fence beside fanboys trying to re-hype relics of their past, or collectors simply interested in what came before.
And don't get me wrong. I enjoy playing my Lynx as well, in very limited doses. I just realize that there are many more worthwhile games available on the Gameboy, or most any other portable, that will provide more entertainment. And overall, playing games on the Lynx sux.
If I really wanted to take the effort, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to take your Lynx article and transpose the subject from Lynx to 2600 or Jaguar. It isn't going to change the suckitude of the play value of those games.
