I agree with pretty much all of this.

I graduated from the Brick to GBC to original GBA to SP to SP2 to DS. SP2 is a dream that I still enjoy playing. I still have half a dozen games I've yet to crack into that should be pretty good (Summon Night 2, Shining Soul 2, Yggdra Union, Advanced Guardian Heroes, Jetset Radio, MMZ4, ... couple others), and probably fifteen or so I still need to finish.

The square little metallic system doesn't look like it would be comfortable at all, but I found it near perfect. By the way, I hate the Micro with a passion. That thing sucks so bad.

The GameBoy should have led the Lynx, Game Gear, and Neo Geo Pocket to the grave, not followed. There aren't 20 great games on GameBoy systems total, and the ones that are there are mostly ports.

Game boy has always been like most Squaresoft rpgs to me.
I always buy them when they come out, yet never am very happy with them.
To be fair, that how it is with me and all handhelds.

Exactly. hardware wise only two systems have ever been decent competitors: NGPC and Wonderswan. How people can to this day still say crap like Gamegear and Lynx are better than the Gameboy just blows my mind.

I had fun playing Tides of Time on my GameGear. Especially with the two brick rechargeable packs.

Tetris on the fat model GameBoy is one of my favorite gaming memories. Still, this "retirement" won't last very long.

They were less practical as portables due to size and battery life but they had a bunch of great games the GB couldn't handle: Blue Lightning, Power Strike series, Shinobi series, among many others blow away GB games in those genres. I actually like the three systems almost equally as they excel in different areas.

picture if you will. The gamegear and gameboy just came out. You have shining force for the gamegear. It is 3 am at night. You are suppose to be asleep. But you don't want to sleep, you want to play video games. The tv will make to much noise and the game boy has no back light. OH, WHAT IS THIS, THE GAMEGEAR IS BACK LIT!?!?!?! You can play it in bed, to your hearts content!?!

Oddly enough, I just threw out a Lynx game (some shitty basketball game) but yeah I had a Lynx at one point, it may be around here somewhere.

How the fuck do you figure that only similarly awful, underpowered systems were the worthy competitors.

Atari Lynx was doing shit the SNES couldn't touch 2 years before it came out.

I don't just mean hardware either. Gameboy Brick had mostly shitty games with a handful of classics like Wario Land 2, Donkey Kong 94, and Zelda. Beyond that, there was a ton of crap. Lynx and GameGear had much better games.
