Just that I am not an expert and shouldn't teach all of you physics. Wedding's are made up to be the greatest day of a person's life; it's not that it ensures a good marriage, it's that THE DAY is supposed to be INCREDIBLE. So people do what they can to make it that way, it is literally supposed to be the Apex of a woman's life. That's the main reason. Not "It's magic, it's a ceremony that if it goes well makes the marriage last! or at least women think that" I doubt most women think that if many at all.

Stop listening to hallmark and turn off bridezillas. The histery of the American wedding, with the white dresses and huge cake is pagan. As a ritual it has very marginal connections to any of the current religions that endorse it.

And to be certain, it is a religious ritual. aka, a magic spell. Religious rituals are magic spells. They are a process of actions intended to bring about a magical outcome. We just don't call them that because of the negative connotations that Christianity has put on anything non-christian.

How is putting on a big stupid dress that you can't use for anything else and having a big expensive party with freinds, the Apex of a person's life? You come in here, question my knowledge of weddings based on the fact that I am currently single. You imply that because I am not dating someone right now, I must not know anything about the topic. That all possible knowledge was swept away when I stopped dating a girl a month and a half ago. You draw a comparison between forgetting most of what you learned in high school to me forgetting anything I know about relationships with women because some or any time has passed since I dated anyone.

Which really wasn't the point you made. And even if it is what you're aiming at, you'd still be wrong. You don't have to be an expert in relationships to know that weddings are rituals just like you don't need to be expert in physics to know what mass is, or what electrons and protons are.

I don't think the wedding has much to do with the marriage at all in the mind of a bride. Really women just love getting all dressed up and being the center of attention. And spending money on stupid shit.

I think it's pretty typical for girls to subconsciously think that their wedding is going to reflect upon the rest of their marriage, but not because they think of it as a superstition (although I'm sure some do). More of a "My husband and I are working together to put on the perfect wedding, and if we can't do that right it reflects poorly upon our ability to communicate and organize the rest of our lives" kind of thing.

But I think the obsessive nature of it all is much more of a "I'm insane and need this super important day where everyone is going to be staring at me the entire time that has been built up my entire life as the pinnacle of womanhood to be as perfect as possible and will stop at nothing to ensure that it is perfect even if it ruins my life up to that date did I mention that I'm insane?" sort of thing.

Oh, certainly. For the most part, it is the last little girl birthday party. You get to put on a fancy dress, and get a big cake and presents, and all your friends come and give you attention.

Its the last time you're a little girl. And they go all out.

In that regard, it is a right of passage. You are going from a little girl to an adult.

But for some, there is still a mental connection between "awesome wedding = awesome marriage" lived happily ever after.

And both outlooks on weddings translate into magic shit. All of the attention doesn't make you important. The wedding doesn't make you an adult woman. And the wedding doesn't make your marriage perfect.

The woman acknowledging that it is superstitious, doesn't mean it isn't.

The premise of the wedding itself is superstitious.

If a person thinks that a sequence of actions is going to bring about an outcome without a direct connection, they are being superstitious. If someone thinks that if they do A, and B, and C, and it will cause D, but there is no clear connection from A,B,or C, to D, it is magic shit. Or at the very least, being unfoundedly hopeful, or gambling.
