Cute Grim Reaper Adventures

Lately I've been infatuated with drawing this little cute grim reaper character.

This morning while doodling a bit to warm up I came up with this:

And I thought, wow, this would make a neat little game, which led me to mock up the image above with a little bit of "in game" interface thrown on:

After seeing the above image I didn't really want to stop, and since I had been wasting time on it already, why not go ahead and do it up right:

I'm thinking it would be an actiony platformer with a silly sense of humor (something like Bangioh's writing maybe?) and lots of boss encounters.

Or maybe something metroidvania-ish... I dunno, was just tossing some ideas around in my head and debating if I want to really try to work on this or not.

What do you cats think? Something you'd play, does it have potential?

I thought it would be a fun topic either way.

I would certainly play a game with those awesome graphics :P.

Srsly though I'd like to see that character as the main character in a game.

Seriously though... enough Metroidvanias... definitely go the action-platformer route... maybe some Prince of Persian/Flashback style puzzles.

I really like the style. Any type of platformer would work or even a point and click adventure.

I love the look, and I'd love it in your initial action platformer idea above all else. Might be because I'm burnt out on Metroidvania, though.

He should use his scythe to dig into walls for a wall jump, and hook onto things for swinging around. I'm sure you could find tutorials on how to put together a platformer in XNA.

If it was like Metroid, not "Metroidvania" (i.e., good, interesting level design with lots of secrets, and no leveling up - increases in strength come solely as a reward for exploration), that'd be great.

I finished the 2 inch thick C++ book a week ago, and yet I still don't know how to make video games
