Whether or not it's warranted, you can't deny many people have strong reservations about the rotary.
Meh, the only valid complaints if someone were buying a new RX8 would be that the gas mileage sucks or they wanted something with torque. The early models of the 8 did suck, however.
That being said, I ain't married to a rotor, and i'd take the new jam too, especially if it really ends up being several thousand dollars less and tuner friendly.

There is a Volvo 1800E down the street for 900
I kind of want it. They get 25 down, 30 on the highway. Top speed is about 110-120. Do 0-60 in something like 9-13 seconds depending year. And the 1800 holds the world record for most driven car.
it needs a lot of work though.
Engine overhaul, gas tank probably needs to be recoated, repainted, new breaks, interior work.
On the plus side, it looks complete, and being a southern car, the undercarriage probably isn't rusted out.

Those are pretty cool. Be wary of parts availability. They are quite old and bit obscure.

So this weekend's event was awesome. Saturday's course, while fast, was too fast for my rookie ass. It was also long as shit. Course walk took about 20-25 minutes. The fastest times were well over a minute (normal times for really good drivers, depending on which class/course design, are in the low 40 sec - mid 50 sec range). I only had one clean run and two off-course laps. Everyone fucked up, including seasoned drivers, so that made it easier to deal with. Sunday's course was much shorter and I did pretty well. My fastest time was 55.something and fastest time of the day was 43 set by a Cobra and some kit car. I'm waiting for the official results to see how I did overall.
Also, there was a BR-Z racing on Sunday. Looked pretty good. Depending on which class it gets put into (probably my class, G Stock) it will give everyone a run for their money, especially the miatas.

Official results from Sunday. I somehow beat a Porsche 911. LOL. Anyone with a sporty/sports car, I highly recommend trying autocross. It's a lot of fun and you get to see some pretty cool cars going really fast.

Once I get my outback up and running again, I'd love to get into auto crossing around here.

I wanted an outback. I can never find a good price on one

I got mine last year. 1998 with ~111k miles and pretty much what I wanted in a car at the time.
Until I get my power steering rack and power steering pump replaced along with a driver side inner tie rod, I do not trust driving the thing anywhere.

I think one would suit me pretty well. I can't find a small car with the same trunk space as the Ford Probe I had.
