The Camaro is going to be at least 30k. And a beast of a car.
C&D to the rescue. Just found this comparison Evo, STi, R32. And the R32 even makes it in second. Evo wins

The thing is, not only does the Miata have a larger trunk than the Sky, but the Miata's top does not take up any trunk space. The Sky's does. Its trunk is reduced to about 2 cubic feet with the top down.
FWIW, the Sky's sister car, the Pontiac Solstice, was also named one of the least reliable cars ( http://money.cnn.com/popups/2006/autos/reliable/5.html ) as well.
But with the turbocharged Red Line model, it should perform pretty nicely.
With small-displacement cars like my own (SVT Focus), an extra gear allows the manufacturer to space the gears a little closer, so that it's easier to stay in the powerband. At 80 mph in 6th, I'm turning about 3500 rpm.
For a larger displacement car that makes power pretty much everywhere, it allows a true overdrive gear. It's one thing that GM really got right with their manual transmission cars. It's how the Corvette has 430 hp and can still get 26 highway mpg.
How dare you.
Stormy, I test drove a Z and hated it. Thanks for the suggestion though. They are pretty cute.
I didnt like the Solstice either, but that was mostly because it was advertised at one price, and then when I went in to look at it, the dealership had tacked on a few thousand dollars extra, just because it was a popular car. That worries me about the Sky, though, that the Pontiac is proving to be so unreliable.
Why the Mustang hate? Anyways, have you considered a Beetle? I've been in one and they do have good interior space and amenities and a decent powertrain. Also, an MX-5 is more or less a perfect Sky/Saturn equivalent and I've never heard too much tell of a Miata having poor reliability.
So I got back from the Car show, and I don't see why you guys think it's horrible. It at least gave me a good idea of what I want, and I think I've narrowed it down to:
The Pontiac G5
The Nissan Sentra or Versa though I hate the look of the back of the Versa.
The Scion xC
I'm kinda leaning heavily towards the G5 but I need to go read up on them etc etc.
