the design of the scirroco's gonna take some time getting used to, atleast for me, but I'm liking it more and more each time I see it.
i hope the .:R36, hatchback form, comes to fruition....hopefully in the next 2 years or so. I'd definitely like to trade up for that.
Really? I love it. It's way better than the GTI even. Replace the 2 door GTI with this, and leave the 4 door GTI for the people who want 4 doors or people who would just rather have the GTI.
I don't really get why they made it considering how much it overlaps the GTI's market (and whatever Skoda has in Europe in that segment as well). But they did make it, so I don't see why we can't have it here. I love that brown leather interior.
I am really starting to love VW. Damn that looks sexy.

my new car :D
5 speed sport!
I would get a Fit if I have to commute by car.
it's a fantastic little car. the specs on it are incredible too...
i was driving an automatic vw beetle before and hated it. it was the wonderful ones that was built in mexico and everything went wrong with it. i am so happy to be driving japanese and back to having control of my gears again :)
:tu: atlas. how is the mileage for you so far?
i only really commute a few miles every day in the city. it's the little adventures to dc and nyc that kill it. i'm still under 3k. the mpg averages around 34-35.
My mom was in the market for a new car recently, and while on the lot of the local Chevy dealer, I saw one of these..
http://www.chevrolet.com/byo/buildSu...n=yes&x=31&y=4
its a Chevy Aveo, but not just any old Aveo. Its an SVM (Special Value Model)
Sticker price?
$10,211. For a NEW car. I had no idea you could still buy new for that price. Stripped to nothing, but new.
Sad part is though, they are so desperate to sell cars, we drove a '08 Cobalt out of there, 4dr, A/C, Auto, FM/CD/XM/ PDL/PW/Keyless entry for a little over 13K, which is less than all the used dealers around here wanted for an '06 Cobalt.
I do have to honestly say, I like the car. Unlike her previous two turds, a Malibu and a Cavalier, I can sit in this car and be comfortable in it. Its averaging about 26MPG, and thats doing almost all stop and go street level traffic for her back and forth to work. Its suprisingly peppy, and the Ecotech seems to be a reliable powerplant.

I'm thinking of getting a Yamaha Virago. I really like the 80+ mpg on it. And what the hell at Yamaha Japan keeping the DS250 to themselves. That thing gets like 118 mpg and looks great for a 250 cc bike.
Why don't we get the DS250? Here in the states motorcycle engine displacement = penis size. I hear guys all the time saying "Nah man a 600 sport bike is a waste of money and is too slow... get a literbike or a busa." Of course, motorcycle companies love this, since larger bikes = larger profits.
Elsewhere there's a lot more variety in the under-500 cc category. Heck you can't really get anything with sporty origins in that segment other than the Ninja. Considering how well the Ninja has sold in the last 18 or whatever years, it's obvious that people are interested. It just seems like the companies don't want to bring anything over. Of course they make them, Canada even gets the CBR125 from Honda.
If I was getting a small-displacement bike for going around town, I would likely get a dual-sport motard. Their power delivery is great for lower speeds, and the geometry makes them super maneuverable.
If I had to guess, the biggest reason the US doesn't get the DS250 is that it cost like 2000 more (about 5200 or 5600 on the japanese site) than the Virago. And the Virago cost about 1000 more than the Ninja 250. Yamaha does not want to risk people spending 3000 more for bike just because it is more refined an gets almost 40 more mpg
admittily, I'd probably buy the ninja if the DS was the only other option. Poor college student.
Since we're talking about motorcycles again, I'd like to mention that I'm at just under 900 miles and haven't dropped the bike or otherwise killed myself yet :) Just got a new jacket in the mail and love the way it looks. Haven't ridden with it yet, though.
And there is one other 250 sport bike in the US, the Hyosung GT250R. I don't know anything about Hyosungs, but it looks like a nice bike for the price. It seems to sorta follow the Hyundai mantra of offering extra features for the same prices as the competition--it's got digital instrumentation, it's a "full-size" bike (same size as an R6, whereas my Ninja 250 is definitely smaller) and the engine is supposedly significantly torquier.
Price is about the same as the Ninja 250 ($3,800 msrp), though I presume you can get it cheaper since the Ninjas are being marked up everywhere.
Sharp looking bike, but I'm still glad I went with the Kawasaki.
Nice jacket. Get it from New Enough?
Pbbbt. I'm over a thou since buying, and my bike maxes out at half your cruising speed. Also accelerates to 30 by the time you've already driven around the block twice. WHEN MY NEW VARIATOR COMES IN I MIGHT BE ABLE TO SCRAPE 40 ON A BIG ENOUGH HILL.
I don't like most motorbikes over 250cc, they just look too big.
i painted my scooter.

Next time i have a chunk of change, it's a choice of getting the big bore kit (and actually being able to travel at a good speed), getting a hot exhaust (and having people hear me before they pull over on top of me), or getting a Ruckus swing-arm + big back shock + Ruckus back tire, which just looks awesome.
Here's one a guy has over at the Urbanscootin forum, a few guys on Totalruckus and some guy in F-chan land did the same.
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/a...1&d=1211607032
Haha, that is very cool Finch. Pink on black is very "I'm an F-chan, but fuck you"
Not too shabby! Though to be fair, I do no highway cruising, just city commuting. My coworker got his Vino a few weeks before I got my bike and I've been trying to catch up to him in miles, with some hiccups when I hurt my wrist, vacationed for a week, and waited a week for my 600 mile service.
And have you ridden with 50 mph crosswind gusts? Changing directions randomly? That's tits.
Why not just buy a 125cc scooter? My buddy's Vino does 60.Quote:

Though I must say, your Metro is lookin' wholly original. Would your rear wheel scrape the back of the bike on bumps with that Ruckus rearend?
Probably because a 49cc doesn't require a motorcycle license.
It'd take going down a mountain and turning my engine off to hit 50, though downtown Denver wind can get nasty. Riding in the wind is fun. At about 150 lbs, my scooter is a little kite when it gets too gusty.
I got it because anything not a nasty China scoot was a lot more expensive. Now, i like 50cc's because the limitations make people push the hell out of them to get that extra mph. Even if it's just 2 or 3, there's nothing more satisfying than that difference, and you can really feel it when it's something that's slow in the first place. Keeping up with the mods that the Ruckus crew does is a lot of fun too, and it'd be more fun if the Met people were as aggressive. There is a guy fitting a 125cc GY6 engine to a Met. If it turns out well, you can bet there'll be more. Don't know if i'd go that far, but it would be nice if someone figured out how to make a bolt-on extra cc kit for the Met/Ruckus like you see on the 2-strokes.Quote:

:D Thanks Tones and MarkRyan! As soon as i wax the new paint, i'll be re-adding my penguin sticker for a couple extra horse power.Quote:

The back has to be chopped up a little to even get the tire to fit, and it definitely needs a bigger rear shock. I was thinking if i went the front Ruck tire (120/90-10 vs. 130/90-10) and maybe the 310mm shock for a lot of extra clearance, it wouldn't be a problem. I think the one on that is a 270mm. One guy recommended a 285, but those are hard to find. :P Not sure if the 310 would even work or it'd just tip the bike over. I'm waiting for a response from this guy to see what he thinks.

Mmm, this is interesting. When I first read that story I didn't see the photo of the car--I thought it was simply a bad park job, and while that's obnoxious it's not grounds for getting your car dented.
The double-spot park job, however, is clearly intentional. People take real offense to this type of parking, but I think I have a more rational opinion of it. If someone parks like that in the middle of nowhere and there are tons of empty spots around, people shouldn't have a problem with it. A guy in my office building parks on the rooftop of the garage and often takes two spots, some coworkers bitch about it but seriously, whatever--no one wants those spots anyway.
But if someone parks like that in prime parking territory where people will for sure be looking for parking, you are an asshat. If you care for your car--and I do--that's totally understandable, go put it in the middle of nowhere and don't inconvenience other people that, quite frankly, don't give a shit about your (or my) car.
Even if you park far away you shouldn't take two spots. If you're way out there no one else will park next to you anyway, but taking two is is like having more than your fair share of pizza. Everyone has to live with what is allotted to them, their car is not so special that they get two. If it is that special and they are so worried about it they are better off leaving it home.
This kind of karmic justice always makes me feel good inside, like the world works to punish those who willfully act like pricks (even if it is people helping it along).
That said auto vandalism without cause should be punished by the death penalty.
Some people are saying that the car was not actually damaged, the note was just left to freak them out. Not sure if that's true or not.
I hope they caused notable exterior damage. No one should drive that ugly POS... er... I mean no one should take up two parking spots.
i believe in karma. even if the idiot double parks, if someone comes along and intentionally puts a dent into the douchebags vehicle, karma's gonna strike him down somwhere down the road.
now if it was unintentionally, then it's all good.
I'm also a firm believer in (auto) karma. I once scraped the bumper of a beater Camry when I was pulling into a tight space. Despite already having multiple dents and scratches, I left my full information. It's just the right thing to do imo.
We are getting the Fiesta! But not till 2010. Ford needs this car here NOW or everyone is going to go to the Japanese for good small cars. Look how good that interior looks. Keep the quality high Ford or nothing changes. If they shitty this up for the American market I will be so pissed.
Refreshing or Redesign? Looks like the entire from fascia is being redesigned.
2010/2011 Ford Fusion
I didn't mention this in my last post, but they are off to a poor start because our Fiestas are getting built in Mexico.
ughh. That's never good.
Also: GM is closing a ton of factories. Most are SUV and Truck's. The entire staff is being transferred to the plants in Pontiac and Dearborn ... those plants make G6's and Malibu's.
Damn right they do, or we call INS. Even in Mexico.
I don't watch MotoGP, but saw this posted on a local motorcycle forum. Valentino Rossi has a new helmet he's sporting:
VW hasn't had a solid reliability reputation since well, a long time.
Check pretty much any source, the Fusion triplets are excellent cars. It has much more to do with the company not so much where the car was made. Ford has been seriously improving since Bill Ford's "Quality is job #1" initiative regardless of how their truck market is taking (which isn't due to their truck quality). Even crappy ass Consumer Reports is recognizing. GM is floundering, Chrysler is going insane. Ford meanwhile actually seems to have an idea of what to do. Now we have to hope they can beat the clock.

Mazda just extended my engine warranty to 8 years 100k miles. Woooo!
Wow, nice. What prompted that?
The early models suffered from lack of lubrication to the seals. They have replaced quite a few engines. Mazda fixed the issue with software updates that increase the oil injected into the engine. 09s have a new oiling system with an extra injector. This is why I premix (5oz premix oil into the gas tank). They want people to know they are standing behind the rotary. The 09s are getting the new warranty too.

If it's FWD, Porsche needs to kill themselves.
Fuck it, hatches rule. Bring it.
I'm waiting for Ferrari to enter the hot hatch market.
They better make it quick. VW is not happy with Porsche right now. Reports are that Porsche was going to force Audi to stop production on certain vehicles. VW who has rights to both have said that they will break the relationship with Porsche if they continue to meddle with Audi.
Hatches are so ugly.

This is also true. But it's a good ugly.
Ugh, I hate the Z3 Coupe. Looks like such a hack job, but it's factory.
I really don't get the common disdain for hatches. I guess it stems from the typical hatred for station wagons, though I don't personally make the connection between wagons (for old people) and hatches (for young people). Hatches to wagons are like coupes to sedans.
...But I also have no problem with wagons. The Magnum is/was dope (would be much doper with a stick). The new Commodore wagon is hot in the same way.
I saw this the other night on the way back from the pictures. Apparently there are only 100 Ford GTs in Europe-
Saw my second Carrera GT in my area.
The first was yellow and parked in front of this exotics dealer, a big deal, but almost expected considering the cars this dealer has. But this time, I was passing an on ramp right near my house, suddenly I hear a high pitch whine, and a black Carrera GT comes rolling up the on ramp right next to my car. I may or may not have shat myself. That car sounds like a fucking banshee when it accelerates.
True that! I've only ever seen one, which was in Sacramento while hanging out with some buddies. I've never heard anything so beautiful--we all heard it instantly and I thought, "What the hell was that?" before spotting the Carerra GT blasting through the intersection.
I want one.
I saw a Tesla roadster on the street today.
Went for my first ride "in the twisties" today. What a fat load of fun.

On an unrelated note, is anyone else deeply perturbed by dealer plate frames? It boggles my mind that some people not only don't remove them right away, but even put the frames back on over their new plates when they come in.
A license plate needs no frame. But if you feel it needs a frame (seriously, it doesn't), at least put something on it other than a dealership name and a phone number. Downright shameful, those dealer plate frames.
Ha. I got some idle jets for my carb from Bowls, who deals not only in fashionable clothing, but also Ruckus performance parts! In the box was my jets, an awesome Bowls decal (put on my scooter), a Bowls sticker (put on my scooter)... and... a Bowls license plate frame, which, despite not even having a license plate, i put on my scooter. Although, it's defiantly positioned around the license plate light so that a license plate couldn't even fit in it.
Actually, the lowest jet in the pack is running my idle waaaahaaaaaay rich, and i'll be switching to a fat slide carb in about a month, so the extra goodies were the only good things in the box.
And hatches are awesome, but so are station wagons.
More scooter pics!

Pods are not good in the rain. The red one's more style over function. I could put it back under the fender where it'd be safe from getting wet, but i like the look of it there. If it does get wet, there's not enough suction to suck water into the engine anyway, being upside down and all. The big one's pretty protected unless it's a real downpour.
With the right jetting and optimum temps, the pods give me a wee bit of a boost over stock. I got a whopping 1mph on top of my stock speed from them, and better acceleration. Since, i've screwed up my jetting with the wacky idea that i needed a bigger idle jet. Main jet's going down to see if i can still run with it or it was all a waste of money. Had an even bigger idle jet and though the scooter sounded very manly, it wouldn't even hold idle without stalling. It does sound kind of neat running rich, like a baby Harley, but accel and top speed are a bit down. I didn't get the pods for performance anyway, mainly because they look cooler than the old air box and they give me a nice throaty sound that beats that nasty 2-stroke scooter buzz.
God dammit Finch. You make owning a pink and white flowery scooter sound awesome. And I know that just isn't possible.
Finch lives in bizzaro world
Owning a pink and white flowery scooter has the potential to be awesome.
So, my roommate has a 150cc China scoot that has a 150cc engine. While the China scooters are usually problematic, that 150cc engine could probably launch my scooter to 75mph without any mods. And the day i get to 75mph is the day i blow one of those tiny tires and fly off a mountain.
Why don't you have a license plate?
Because you can't even get one for 50cc's in CO. If i could, i would. I think a plate looks better than the sticker the 50cc's get.
Can't resist posting this great write up on the RX8.
http://www.speedsportlife.com/2008/0...ough/#more-896
I've never driven an RX-8, but I'd definitely pick one over a 350z. The one curiosity is that Vicki from Fifth Gear thought the steering was a let-down.
She would be the only one then. Maybe that car had a problem? The steering is one of the best parts about the car. Mazda is the only non-premium brand that consistently gets steering feel right.
edit - finally got a chance to watch it, she's insane. The wheel is normal sized. It feels nothing like a truck. She doesn't even understand the name of the engine, saying they should call it a Wankel is like wondering why they don't just call the Wii 'videogame console'. I take exception to the shifter critism too, it's only one step below an S2000, and only notchy when cold. I assume it's a tester that's been thrashed already. Vicki is always lame though.
Well it happened. I never thought it'd happen to me, but on my way home today on my bike it happened.
I ran out of gas.
My fuel gauge is useless so I use the odometer to gauge when I need fill ups. Have been filling up around 175 miles but always had 1.5 gallons left in the tank when I got gas. So I figured this time I could make it 200 miles on my tank. I was wrong.
Pretty certain it's because of my weekend of riding where I rarely went past fourth gear and likely murdered my mpg average. Fortunately, I ran out of gas on the street I live on so I was able to push the bike to a spot in front of my apartment, get to my car, and go buy some gas in a gas can. While I was filling up a jogger (I live on a lake so there are lots of them) stopped by to ask about the bike, said he wants to get the same bike, and asked if I was on a local rider forum (I am)--was pretty neat and made the ordeal worth it :)
Even though it may only be related in skin, the RX8's at the Rolex 24 were by far the best sounding cars there.
After that first sentance I thought you had dropped it. At least you were close to home!
For truth. <3 Mazda and <3 rotaries.Quote:

Me too! I almost dropped my little 50-banger. Hit a nasty patch of sand going around a corner on one of my eternal jetting tests, felt the back go out, slammed down my leg. ): if it was heavier or i'd been going faster i'd probably be without my right leg right now. But she righted! And that's what matters. i need to take that MSF course. ): ): ):Quote:

I'm at 13k miles. No issues at all, but really poor milage since moving to LA 15mpg mixed. I drive less here so I save on gas that way. There are fewer oportunities to wind it up to 9k and that makes me sad. I've started to concentrate on driving more conservatively to save fuel instead of hitting 7k rpm between the stop signs on every block. I think it's helping so far, but I'm not even half way through the tank. I'm hoping I can get back to 18mpg.
I put premix in the gas to help keep the engine lubed and avoid the common issues. Last month I got the latest engine flash from Mazda which is supposed to increase the oil injection as well. That and a new sunvisor are the only 2 dealer visits I've had. The visor was a poor design that split on a seam in the heat last summer and fell off. It happened to a lot of people but the new one they put on doesn't have that issue.
Based on my experience so far I wouldn't hesitate to get the next rotary Mazda puts out. Which ever car gets the x16 will be at the top of my list. That said I plan on keeping this one for a long time. There isn't a car on the road right now short of a Porche Cayman that i'd rather have.
My next plan is to get a set of these rims (or the 7 spoke version) and the Mazdaspeed exhaust. (not my car but it would look exactly the same as this minus the extended front spoiler.)
I almost dropped my bike once...by forgetting to put down the kick stand. I'm still not quite sure how I was able to muscle it back up, 'cause the bike must've come within a foot of the ground and I am not a particularly strong man.
MSF is good and fun. They even teach you to put the kickstand down.
Well I still don't have a job, so the exhaust is still on hold. The rims have just joined it there :)
Wheels are JIC. http://www.jic-magic.com/
Have they figured out a bypass for the tire pressure monitor system on the RX8s yet? I knew when it came out dealers were upselling to aftermarket rims and the cars were coming back in droves because of the tire warning lights..
I think you just have to find rims that fit the sensors or live with the dash light. The guy with that car said tpms works.
I am now the owner of a 2004 Toyota Solara, and I have to say so far I'm pretty happy with it. I need to get the front and rear bumper painted though, as it has some shitty scratches on there, I'll try and snap some photos of the car though.
Pictures added.
Not bad.
Hows the insurance on that thing?
Shitty because of the accident with the last car, but its doable.
fucking sucks. Make sure you get collision coverage, which I thought I did. But I did not in fact.
I always make sure to be fully covered.
Mazda 6 instead, do it

The payback period for every other hybrid model went up. At the bottom of the pack was the Lexus 600h, which costs $18,858 more than the LS 460L, the most comparable non-hybrid model in the Lexus lineup. The 600h saves only $189 a year in gas versus the 460L.
Hey! I want to make people not give a damn too!
So i was running with my swing arm cover off today, which looks awesome because it exposes the variator, belt, and clutch, but for some reason it feels whiffier. Could be that my accel is just whiffy in the first place and the cover of the swing arm gives a good surface for the sound of my intake to bounce off. Plus when she's running, she's sound like she's a charging her laser to output power at 9,000,000, or however much it is. I used to hit 33 on the hill, cold, now she's waffling up at 25. Could've been a bad test when i ran up cold, could be i need to jet up on my main (88 was the sweet spot, i'm down at 85 because i took out the shitty 38 slow jet). Otherwise, i don't know if my spark's just too dirty, my valves need adjusted, the oil's slightly over-filled, the belt needs replaced, or my engine's just wearing down after the neglect of the previous owner.
Spark's cheap, i just need a feeler to measure my valve gap, caliper on my belt, and i just need to drain my oil and remeasure it for the oil. But if the engine's just wearin' out, nothin' to do... but get that monster racing engine with HO cam and head up in FoCo, $1200 + 6-8 weeks for makin' it. She won't pull past 45 with my current set up, not enough gearing, but boy will she be pulling up to that mark fast. Well, probably not as fast as a REAL motorcycle, but she'll be hitting it like a banshee in 4-stroke 50cc standards. which isn't that high of a standard. but 4-strokers have a nice manly grumble compared to the angry bee in a can of 2-strokers.
Also, today, i stopped about 3 inches from the back of a Corolla because i overestimated the stopping power of my drums. Need disks. But those is expensive to set up. New wheels, new cable, new master cylinder, new disks, if i run it rear wheel alone, it'll be around $500 to install it myself. :P
There, is that enough nonsense to not give a shit about? I'll be sure to post my jetting results tomorrow! And when i get a big slide carb, sheeeeeeyeeeeew, i'll be able to post every day for several years about jetting that nasty bitch.
