Because in America we do not get most of the cool shit. Poor America. No Mondeos, no Skylines etc. but we've got millions of Camry's for sale.

Random thoughts:
It was cool to get up close with a bunch of cars I usually just see in passing. Sat inside a Fit, and though I don't like the new body as much as the old I was definitely impressed by the insides. It doesn't feel at all like a small car. Sat inside a Mazda 6 and that car is ridiculously big--I'm a huge fan of the way the car looks, but it's just way too big for anything I'd want. The G37 Coupe/convertible is frickin' hideous. The G35 coupe is a great looking car but they just botched the shit out of it with the update, and the convertible doesn't help (makes it more Solara-esque). Sat inside a hardtop Miata and I want one bad. For a minute, I was calculating the difference between trade-in on the Goat and a new Grand Touring hardtop before I came to my senses. Still, if I were buying a new car today it'd be a hardtop Miata. The SRT-4's seats really are outstanding, seats like that should be in every sporting car. Eff what the mags say, the 1-Series is BMW's best looking car--the 135i is the BMW I'd take home. Pontiac's G3 is so goddamn embarrassing. Even in person, the base CTS looks betters than the CTS-V. The CTS wagon is very sharp. I kinda dig the Cube, but only if it's dirt cheap. At $13k that car makes a lot of sense. At $15k, fuggetabowdit. Ferrari's California is worse-looking in person than in pictures. It's just kinda dopey, and that it's front-engined amid the rest of the MR Ferrari lineup makes it even less appealing. You'd have to be a clown to pass up an F430 for a California. On a related topic, every 2+2 at the show looked useless--the back seats are all jokes. I'm sure the lack of space was sort of amplified by them moving all the front seats far back for display, but move my GTO's seats all the way back and my rear seats are still totally usable, both for torsos and full human beings. Sitting in the STi made me want one of those, too. The one at the show was dark gray which is a fantastic color on that car. Great looking car, best looking STi we've had in the States.
when the 2008 STIs rolled out, i thought they were disgusting, but close to a year later, the design has really grown on me.
I don't mind that it's a hatchback anymore and think the front end looks damn good. love the front lights, grill, and the subtle hood scoop.
The back end however, is awful. I think Subaru really fucked up the tail light design.
Did Subby make any subtle exterior changes?
Thanks for the impressions.
Went to the Central Florida Auto Show with the wife and kids yesterday (and my best friend too) highlights include,
FORD:
Seeing the dash of the Hybrid Fusion light up, it's like driving with a PSP giving you your gauge cluster. The Fusion sport has really cool honeycomb tail lights. Overall the new 2010 Fusion looks great. Between the new Fusion, Mazda 6 and the Malibu who would be caught dead in an Accord or Camry?
Saw the Raptor and its nightmare suspension from hell itself. Ford should be the only name in trucks, every one else should go home.
Other F150's were there and the stripper model 09 f150 isn't that big looking. Tailgate step is hella good.
See a 2010 Mustang which is like a 2005 Mustang that shrank and little in the wash. Seeing it and the new Camaro and Challenger makes the new stang look downright tiny. Engine upgrades plus beefed suspension plus sleeker/smaller look and an interior that looks sick with ambient lighting means well, damn. Trusted powertrain and suspension means an aftermarket rife with upgrade toys.
LINCOLN/MERCURY:
New Lincoln MKZ looks slick as well, in black it's insane IMO. The MKS also looks damn good in white. Due to kids I'd probably still opt for an MKX if I had cash to blow on a premium brand.
If I had the cash I would pick up a hybrid Milan as its redesign is very subtle and refined styling.
MAZDA:
The wife and kid fell in love with the Mazda 5. When the Wife's Protege hatch craps out we'll be picking up a manual 5. Slickest mini van on the market.
Teh 6 is teh BIG. Should have left the 6 alone, made the new 6 a little bigger and called it a 9 or something. Looks like it's ready to battle 7 series. Didn't take a change to sit inside and haven't look at it's specs yet but it's good on the outside.
Everything else from Mazda was the same as before, oh well. Speed 3 would have been more interesting if best friend didn't have one that I've worked on and driven. (Best bang for buck car on the market this side of Mustangs).
NISSAN:
370 looks much better in person than in internet pictures. I take back saying it's an abomination. I still think they took the lazy Porsche styling school when making it but oh well.
GTR was there, every one was flocking to Nissan's super Evo. I think that the GTR is the most boring super car ever invented so whatever, I think I took one picture of it.
My son had a huge infatuation with the Nissan SUVs, took him forever to bored of playing around in the Armada.
Altima coupe was there looking as sexy as ever.
CHEVY/CADILLAC
For some reason I LOVE the Aveo sedan. Sickens me sometimes to think about but oh well. I like the basic styling and the honesty of the car for what it is appeals to me. Also like the surprisingly large trunk. You can get a new Aveo with wood trim. I guess adding wood trim is supposed to make one think you're driving a less expensive Buick or Caddy?
HHR Panel vans have rear doors. Didn't know that. Do now.
They had the Camaro there but given that we've known about it for 5 years or whatever and still cannot get it despite massive exposure I no longer care about it. It's also big as fuck like the Challenger. It's size will be its undoing vs. the new smaller looking Mustang.
They had a Corvette ZR1. Slick machine I suppose. Had a clear plastic hole in the roof so one could see that it was super charged.
Cadillac had a variety of XLRs on the display. It is such a neat looking super box. It was crowded with people by the XLRs so I didn't really check them out.
I did take several pics of the new CTS or is it STS Wagon they've got coming out. For some reason they think they need an upscale Magnum. Given that Audi and BMW sell wagons and I see them rarely, I don't see the need for this in America but hey, I've been surprised in the past. It looked really good anyways although you couldn't touch it.
I'll post more when I can post the pics of the show.
Is the fat lady singing yet?

It really wasn't as bad as I expected. Just turn late, watch your corners, and keep a close eye on your mirrors.

2010 Mustang >>>>>>> 370Z imo. Especially in that light blue.
Truth.

Go earlier the iDrive sucks and made the BMW worthless.
2000 3 Series or earlier; cheaper, better, and the car will show you why everyone wanted to own a Beemer.
To clarify the iDrive did not actually control the suspension and traction, but after the 2001 model year BMW started to tinker with that and make everything more computer controlled. Thus taking away from the Ultimate Driving experience. The cars with the first iDrive mechanism, its used for climate and audio controls, were also the ones that BMW started to take away driver control (aka computer assisted steering).
The 3-series is a good car. Of that generation, I've driven the 330Ci (the coupe). They're not blazingly fast, but they are well-rounded comfortable, and classy cars. As with most European cars, get a pre purchase inspection by a good mechanic if you are seriously considering it. Even if it is out of your own pocket, a bad inspection will have saved you a lot of money in the long run. The manual that the 3-series gets is buttery smooth, but the auto should still be a competent performer.
Edit: And the 3-Series didn't get I-drive until '05 or so.
damn you guys ... wait till I'm done editting.
Not sure I'd want a BMW with 100k+ miles on it. They are great cars, for the first owner.
I like the new Volvo XC60 more than that SRX
I really wish I could just get a new 97 ford probe. It has awesome trunk space. I can get a 6 x 10 speaker cab in there.
get a used RSX. Body style like the Probe and it will last you forever.
My moms RSX has treated her well. When she isn't getting speeding tickets anyway.
OMG someone brought up Probes YAY!
The last gen Mercury Cougar was based on what was supposed to be a 3rd Gen Probe (or so I've heard) and yes the Probe was an excellent machine. KLZE swaps FTW. I had a 97 Probe myself and shit I loved the ride, too bad it had to go. Although to this date my Probe gave me more headaches than anything else I've ever owned ... fucking Mazda. But God almighty did it handle.
Also, every one that isn't LOADED should avoid any German car except maybe Volkswagen because you really take it hard on depreciation if they're new, or parts and repairs if they're old. Either way you're paying shit loads of cash for very little returns (unless you're a badge whore or want dumb hos to think you're rich or hot). Everything about the modern German car that isn't driving is a hassle.
You're wrong about depreciation on German cars. VW and BMW specifically are some of the lowest. For 2008 VW was #1 as a brand. BMW is also rated in the top, and the Mini has been the #1 model on several occasions. The pitfalls are reliability and cost of parts/repairs.
Ok so maybe you won't take it in the teeth on depreciation percentage wise (which is usually the measuring stick) but if I buy a Focus I can lose 50% of its value before we start talking real money. For 50k plus car even a 10~15% loss is substantial to ordinary person. This does of course change with vehicle swapping (which is getting hard to do these days) but if you're not careful you could wind up quite upside down on a new one.
Speaking of German cars and depreciation, I would love to have a 540i with the six speed manual.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/bmw/image...-house-big.jpg
And here's one with 75k miles for $12.5. Sooo much car for the money
But Buttcheeks, I would also look at the WRX in that price range. A friend of mine just got a 2002 wagon with the 5-speed for about $11.1 with less than 30k miles. It looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Here's the thread.
Alright, I need some people's opinions that have experience in leases.
I currently have a 01 mustang that I can't stand to have in the winter anymore. I have a work van that I was driving, but the company told me if I want to take the company work vehicle home. It will cost me $100 a month.
I've been thinking of getting a newer car with better gas mileage anyway. I'm looking at the '09 Lincoln MKZ, but I'm not sure if I want to lease or buy. Its between a Dodge Charger RT or the MKZ. Since the winter's are hell in Illinois and they don't plow for shit. I'm pretty much settled on the MKZ just not sure if I should lease or buy.
Feed me some info.
Buy never lease. I think we've had this discussion before in this thread or the older one.
Why the MKZ ... just curious. Is it because you like Lincoln's? Or is it the styling?
If it's because you like the brand, may I suggest the Mazda CX9/Volvo S80/Ford Taurus ... since all four of them are based off of the Volvo S80 platform.
It's a combination of both. I like the styling and cause its a lincoln.
I test drove the Milan yesterday since the initial dealer I went to didn't have a MKZ in stock. I actually like it a lot minus the way I sit in it. I'm 6'5 so my leg digs into the dash more than I would like, cause it hits right at the knee. I haven't sat in the Fusion yet either. They had me sit in a taurus but I fit even worse in there due to the center console.
The MKS was perfect, but outta my price range. I'm hoping that the MKZ will fit much like the MKS.
I generally like Ford products and not sure how the mazda's are. I will probably take a look at them as well.
Check back in the Fall, when the Taurus inside and out is redone ... and if you go back a page you can see the interior of the Taurus is basically a MKZ.
Also, if you are 6'5" get a Crossover. Like the Ford Edge/Mazda CX-7. Which is I think based off of the MKS ... or is it the other way around. I do know they are redoinig the Taurus and they are basing it off of the MKZ.
Also: / means same platform.
At this point, I don't believe that waiting till fall is an option. I'm not a big fan of cross overs. I prefer cars.
I appreciate the suggestions. The Mazda 6 sports look nice and have decent horsepower @ 272hp. I don't really want to give up my mustang but there is no way to make those things winter maneuverable, unless I put tire chains on it.
Lincoln's naming scheme is so stupid. Which one is the MKZ? Is that the Fusion, Taurus, or Edge? I guess money isn't an issue if you want the Lincoln version, but they don't really add anything that compelling to the Ford model imo. You don't need to get a new car though, just buy snow tires if snow is the real issue. Snow tires >>>>>>> all seasons.
yeah, I love the handling. Very smooth and tight.
you know any sites about the car?
I'm waiting for mine to die at this point. It has 150,000 miles on it. And the overdrive light likes to blink at me when I drive it for 2 hours and go up a hill.
For college though, its still good. Only gripes is the seat is a little stiff after 5+ hours of driving and no damn cup holder.
If it was up to me, I'd dump 3 thousand in the car and rebuild it.
ARRRRGGGGGG NO FUCKING CUP HOLDERS!!!! GOD DAMN THAT WAS IRRITATING!!!!!!
Other than that a remarkable car. Insane SHAME it was canned. Could have given Ford much better sport compact cred (although honestly the segment is rather small now so maybe they were right to can it). Should have brought over the damn KLZE and rocked the comp. Oh well, that's life.
Oh, BTW

I got a ride in an Evo IX today. First time I've been in one. It was fast. The dude blasted down the business park road we work on and I'm pretty sure we hit triple digits on the way to lunch. It was pretty rad.
I'm giddy today. My friend's home garage got its lift finally installed this weekend.
Why does that make me happy?
I CAN FUCKING FINISH MY GODDAMN DAYTONA NOW!!!!! Woooo!.
After 6 months of owning my Camry, it has been fully paid off.
Congrats on that man, I just paid off mine too.
Chrysler shows signs of life! The 200c actually looks really good.
WTG Chrysler!
See, when you get rid of those meddling Germans, what can happen?
I'm holding out hope, that the company can hold it together for the next few lean years, and we can see what they can really do.
Here's a kooky idea....Bring back the damn Neon. Call it something else if you must. Damnit, you have the rights to use the entire Mitsubishi Lancer platform, do something with it.
They won't.
Chrysler needs a GOD DAMN miracle. Even if their cars came with unlimited blowjobs for the first 5 yrs/50k people would still not buy them. The media has all but literally burnt their factories to the ground.
People do NOT care anymore about the domestics and their plight, self afflicted or not. Reading blog comments about the new Taurus has me convinced that even if the big three make a car with Rolls interior, Ferrari performance, F150 capability, Prius fuel economy, Volvo safety and Benze gadgets, and Civic resale, for stripped Versa pricing people still won't care because they had a shitty Vega or Tempo or Aspire 10 or more years ago.
What kind of engine does the 200c have? Looks on the heavy side.
They introduced it as an EV concept, but they said it can fit that power train or the next gen phoenix v6s. I'm guessing they only announced it as an EV to play up the green theme that the autoshow is hyping. The concept is rwd but if produced it'd probably go on a fwd platform.
cocko integra
lol!
My stang rides off into the sunset.
'08 Black Lincoln MKZ takes its place. At this point the ride isn't even compareable, not like I expected it to. The performance is really nice. And people rag on it, but honestly the Sync system is very nice. It can be done similarly in other fashions with current head units but the "ding" makes me giddy everytime I hear it.
Nothing like cruising and saying "artist Michael Jackson" and having Smooth Criminal hit.

VW Sues Lambo Orange County Dealership for stealing 12 mil
Quote:
Last November, Lamborghini Orange County, formerly the world's largest Lambo dealer, shuttered its doors for good. The reason for the abrupt closing has finally come to light thanks to freshly released court documents from a lawsuit where Volkswagen accuses the dealership of pilfering $12 million in just eight days. According to Lamborghini's corporate overlord, Volkswagen, the Keuylian family sold 54 cars at rock-bottom prices and summarily ran off with the money without paying off its creditors. If true, that leaves VW high and dry, as the dealership had financed the high-end cars through VW Credit.
Two more lawsuits have been filed against the Keuylians by outside parties, claiming that they too are owed money from the erstwhile dealership. We've got to wonder how the dealership managed to fly under the radar while selling off seven cars per day over an eight day period. It's too early to know how this sordid tale will play out, but we don't see it ending well.
Re: 200C and Taurus
Oh look a Camry. AND ANOTHER CAMRY.
Are you going to call every family sedan a Camry? Even if it's not your thing, they look really great for their segment. What are you expecting?
(although I think the Taurus isn't going to make the splash they want, because it's too big/expensive to have that kind of impact.)
Interesting points in this article. Discuss!

You can be sorry all you want but they do not look like Camrys. Camrys look like Camrys and nothing else save other Toyo shit looks like Camrys. This is a good thing as Toyota fucked up the Camry with its bloated looks.
Also, the MKS has a good engine. It will be even better when turboed.
I'm so entering for this.
Ford's giving out 100 Fiestas (for six months at least) before they release in the US for some marketing deal. I definitely want to drive one, especially since the application asks if you're comfortable driving a manual transmission. \m/
I'm really tempted to join you in entering.
That is a really cool promotion.
I was thinking of doing it too.

Wow.. Now THAT'S a light frickin' engine.

oh shit....i'd be pissed if i was taking delivery of that car. reminds me of this, but this didn't end in disaster:

lots of wrecked exotics:

Test drove the 2009 Audi A4 2.0T and had mixed feelings about it. I love how they changed the body and added the LED lights. But I'm just not completely sold on it. I still love how the BMW 3 Series drives, so I'm stuck between the 2 cars.
I'm also starting to consider the 2010 Camaro SS. The car just seems too good to be true. 400hp for 6-speed automatic and the car costs about the same as the the 211hp Audi A4. The price just seems too cheap for the car.
In any case, I should have a new car by next week, unless I got with the Camaro.
Does the Camaro have a date yet? That shit is taking forever to hit the street, I really want to check it out in person.
No one posted about the agreement between Fiat and Chrysler yet? 500s for everyone!
Uhh, not many 235 hp cars that're as quick as the Camaro will be. 400+ lb/ft is awesome in a 3,800 lb car (ask me how I know).
Yesssssss. Too bad (for Fiat) the Ford Fiesta is coming Stateside. How is Italian car reliability these days?
what does it mean when you turn your car off and it sputters on a little bit (like 4 seconds)
Its called "dieseling" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dieseling on an EFI car its usually the sign of a leaky fuel injector.
