It might not be the best game ever (who can say?), but from what I've played, unless it gets much worse later on, it's certainly no less worthy of consideration than the usual suspects.
What do we have? Half-Life 2? Is it really noticeably worse? Ocarina of Time? lol, give me a break. Planescape: Torment? Okay, that one gives it a run for its money.
I don't think it's getting carried away to at least consider this in the running to take the crown. Of course, I'm speaking with my "OMG Blown Away By the First Hour!" goggles firmly attached. I should shut my fat face till I've played more, speaking of which... why am I not doing that right now?
I probably won't be playing this anymore until 2K patches the Realtek/Vista audio problem. :(
I have got onboard realtek running in xp. I have sound issues when there are too many things making noises. The sound just drops out until thing quiet down.
Best game ever is such a subjective label that it's a retarded thing to argue about. If someone wants to call it the best game ever, fine. If someone else thinks it's merely very good, great. EvilMog getting his panties in a bunch over it (and every other game someone tosses the label on) is silly.
it's not the best game ever probably simply because it's not as much of a leap in any direction as a game like mario 64 was in its time. It's simply super, super, super excellent, but we've played games similar to it before, just not executed anywhere near as well.
In reality it may be the greatest horror/action fps ever made, but it doesn't seem that way because it's not the same kind of huge leap as a game like ocarina was (for most console gamers)
Well, I think there's a difference between best and most important. A good example is the GTA series. GTA3 is the one that defined what sandbox gaming is all about, but Vice City is simply better.
In this case, Bioshock beats out just about every other FPS on the planet - with the possible exception of Deus Ex. But System Shock 1 did this style of gameplay way back in 1994.
