These irritating PC issues remind me of one very awesome advantage to playing on the 360 -- not having to worry about ANY of that shit.
A very vocal minority IMO. I haven't had a single problem with the PC version.
Just found out my videocard won't run this (no pixel shader 3.0). So 360 is my only option.
I tried out the PC demo, it wasn't a pretty sight.
God, this game is awesome, I could barely tear myself away from it. I can't wait for the weekend when I can marathon it.
so i just saved my first little sister, and i got the eve first aid upgrade to get eve from first aid kids, but how do i get more slots for more plasmids? im looking at enrage right now and i want it badly, but i already had to lose incinerate.???????
I had some problems in Vista. Resolution issues, certain sound effects weren't playing, poor framerate (compared to XP.)
Decided the slight graphics upgrades weren't worth the trouble and went back to XP. No problems at all there.
Ok, I'm in Neptune's Bounty, and I've rescued the four Little Sisters on the level. I've beaten Peach and am about to move on, but I've gotten a message twice telling me I haven't harvested/rescued all the LS on the level. I know there's at least one left, as I saw her scurry back into her hole after leaving me a teddy bear. There are three Big Daddys roaming around, but she never comes out.
What do I have to do to get her out? I want to rescue all of the LS in the game, but the little cunt won't play along.
When you pause does it say there is one left? If there is just beat the shit out of a BD til he's a sliver away from death, then stalk him til he beats her out
A good number of people with PC problems just need to download the latest graphics and platform drivers. Uninstalling the old ones correctly is also a good idea.
It doesn't say there's one left in the pause menu, but I got that message just before entering Peach's room, and I got it again when I passed through it and Alex (I think that's his name, the dude who wants me to rescue his family) told me it "should be smooth sailing from there on." I don't want to pass the level and leave one sister behind.
Would you kindly just save there in case, if it's not on the menu you should be fine
BTW, to anyone that cared at all about the widescreen issue, 2K will be releasing a patch (for PC and 360) that extends the horizontal FOV of the widescreen mode when compared to fullscreen.
Also, they're going to make the install keys a little more lenient (5 keys instead of 2,) but they didn't mention anything about removing the DRM from the Steam release.
Yeah my video drivers were put into an infinite loop by the game, so I think I need to update.
Well, I certainly don't see any SecuROM processes, services, or installed files, so either I'm being a dumbass or the Steam + SecuROM stuff is being overblown.
You PC users realize that Nvidia released a beta driver the day before bioshock came out, right?
So did ATI. However I found a slight issue with my PC, but it is probably performance related. When I load up a level, the high res textures take a couple seconds to 'pop' in onto the level. Is that my PC underperforming or an issue? Makes me yearn to buy a new PC just for this game if it's the former..
So in as little spoilerish terms as possible, is there is a benefit to harvesting little sisters? I harvested my first and then rescued the next 3 in Neptune's Bounty. When I did that, Tenebaum gave me a present which recouped all but 40 of the lost Adam I didn't get and gave me the hypno BD plasmid.
So what I want to know is... should I go reload back to that 1st little sister and rescue her? Will there be a benefit at the end of the game to having rescued them all?
Regardless of what you guys tell me, I will definitely be rescuing them all to the end for my first go around.
You only get the good ending by rescuing each and every one.
I just thought it was funny that without it, my computer got a blue screen of death from an infinite loop.
So when you have an escort, be it a security bot or a Big Daddy, is there any way to get it to attack an enemy before said enemy damages you? Because they don't seem to do anything unless something hits me first.
just throw down security drone
Yeah, I'm stupid. Does that affect a Big Daddy as well? I'd test myself, but I'm stuck at work and ridiculously bored.
Yes. It's stupid effective. Buys you good time in between shock/stuns.
Nono, I mean if you're escoring one, will it attack a target that was hit by the security beacon plasmid thingy? Because that would be amazing.
PC Patch for widescreen fix and the copy protection licensing soon. Also there is an unofficial patch out there.

A 360 Patch for widescreen coming.

I BEAT YOU, OLOLOL
I came across an impossible hack. I was trying to unlock a door and the puzzle was unsolvable because it didn't give me a horizontal piece. I couldn't do anything because the way the bombs and circuit breakers were laid out, it only made one possible path.
It almost killed me! I paid 10 dollars and the nearby health station to fix myself up.
Have you been trying to reclaim your Monster status Chux? You seem to have your claws out this week.
Maybe. I've been sprinkling this thread with treats that will make people flip out. :)
Ever since Kano pulled some monster shit Chux has been striving hard to become the monster he once was.

INTRODUCING THE BIOSHOCK ORCHESTRAL SCORE
August 24, 2007
Composer Garry Schyman created the orchestral masterpiece that serenades you through your journey into the heart of Rapture. Today, we are releasing the 12 tracks that create the eerie string compilation in Rapture so that you can take the world of BioShock wherever you go. We have archived these 12 mp3s into a zip file for you for easy download. Grab it and take a listen -- and remember the first moment setting eyes upon the sunken city, your first battle with a Splicer, when you first battled a Big Daddy, or the time you decided to save (perhaps harvest?) a Little Sister. Download the orchestral score.(.zip file -- 23 MB)
Yeah it left me at a sliver. Had to heal so I just spent the cash at the health station that was 10feet away instead of using a health pack.
i was beaten, and also i love this OST
So Ken Levine swears upside down & sideways Bioshock's not in development for PS3.
What are the odds my MacBook Pro could run this?
Tommy Tallarico likes making work for StriderKyo.
StriderKyo probably deserved that.
Add me to the list of people who beat it. I got the happy ending, didnt kill any of those little bitches except..
spolier ahead.
really. don't whine about it if you read it.
when you have to escort one of the little sisters, I lost a couple
Happily I can now pack up my 360 in its cardboard coffin and ship it off. It seems to be okay now, plays discs no problem, but the "grinding" pretty much signaled something was up. Want it fixed before Halo3 and PGR4.
oh...waaah.
Finished it too.. saved all the little whores too.
I'm going to kill every fucking one of them. I'm still in the medical centre trying to get that fucker's key. So far so good. I've only died twice. When you first get the shotgun and are swarmed I thought I had killed all of them but one came out from the darkness from behind. This game is so creepy it's awesome.
Would you kindly kill all of them?
I have another day off tomorrow where I don't get to play the game at all (Meredith is at work). All of this spoiler avoiding sucks.
But so far, I freakin' love the game.
Chux, Would you kindly blow me? :D
No Bull. But I'm also playing through way slower than all of you, and I use medpacks with reckless abandon when shit hits the fan, since they're way easier to find than eve hypos.
Ok, I am fuckin pissed at this game. I played through all the way on hard yet I didn't get the achievement for it. Fuck that. And also screw finding all of the tapes. I swear I searched every nook and cranny looking for this things. Otherwise, it was an amazing game. Fuck all the haters.
I was unaware that there were any haters.
Would you kindly hate on the game?
What's to hate?
I was unaware there are haters of Bioshock.
I should hopefully get mine tomorrow.
I'm giddy.
Sounds like you've got the Plasmid Blues, just SLOW DOWN Mary. You'll be alright in no time. Remember, a smart splicer is a happy splicer.
Did you know 9 out of 10 ladies prefer the athletic man?
A man creates. A parasite asks "Where's my share?"
So, how do you guys think it compares to System Shock 2?
I think Bioshock's better in terms of action, theme, and AI but SS2's got it beat in gameplay depth and challenge. The character upgrade choices in SS2 feel more important because it doesn't let you acquire nearly everything and store it in a bank. I like the inventory management too instead of being able to carry every weapon.
I think Bioshock's excellent, and in some ways the best FPS out there, but I would probably rank SS2 and Deus Ex above it.
I didn't really mean there are haters out there. Just saying that if there are haters out there, then they are idiots.
I started my second run through today, once again on hard. Not that hard was really difficult to begin with, but knowing whats going to happen makes it easy to breeze through the game. I am making sure I get all the audio tapes this run through as well. I accidently missed one when the game first starts cause I restarted from a save and forgot to pick it up again. Unfortunately, you cannot go back to before the Med Labs to get the 2 tapes there, but you can go back to any area that contains tapes, I believe, and pick up any you missed.
Did you change the difficulty at any point during your first run through? That might lock-out the achievement, even if you only switched it from Hard to Normal, then immediately back to Hard.
Just beat the game harvesting all the Little Sisters.
At the end where the Mr. Bubbles gangbangs all the rescued Little Sisters, HOT!
What happened was when I was overlookin the options, as I was scrolling down, the difficulty got switched from hard to medium. I swtiched it back to hard immediately and never even played on medium. Every second of gameplay was on hard. It's pretty lame that just switching the difficulty and then switchin it back before going back into the game causes you to not get the achievement, as in my case it was accident, and at the time i thought nothing of it. Doesn't really matter as the game is really really really easy even on hard when you know where things are and when they are going to happen.
Just beat it. Christ.
Does the Fontaine fight end differently if you don't save the sisters? I don't want to go back and find out immediately.
Shock 2 was definitely harder, and yeah, I was surprised that Bioshock let you get almost everything in one run, but I might place Bioshock over it anyway. The theme and characters are just that good. I'll need time to think about it.Quote:

Thats not the problem. The problem was the fact that you can change the difficulty on the fly in the options. As I was scrolling down to turn off subtitles, the difficulty accidently switched from hard to medium. Seeing as how I noticed this and chnaged it back before I unpaused, I though nothing of it. I can understand if I went into the actual game then back into the options to turn it back to hard, but as soon as it was changed to medium, I switched it back. I didn't think it would be an issue, nor should it be. I never played the game on medium so it should still give me the achievement.
It doesn't really matter though. I wanted to play my second time on easy or medium to just enjoy it without having to worry about anything. This is the case anyways playing through again on hard. I've already collected every audio tape up to Neptunes and a few there, which only comes to 20 something, but It's been a breeze. Took me less then half the time it did on my first go.
I'm intentionally doing the first run on Medium, and saving every Little Sister, but otherwise not worrying about finding every little thing. More enjoyable that way.
Then my second run will be on Hard, harvesting all the Little Sisters, and picking up every last Achievement I missed with a walkthrough if necessary. I figure that should balance things fairly well.
You can actually 1000/1000 Bioshock in a single playthrough. The achievements are varied and aren't too hard if you know what to look for. I'm playing on medium first to get everything, then I'll just blow through it on hard.
Thanks. Also, is it possible to miss the camera? I'm past the Medical Ward and I still haven't found it yet...
No, it isn't. And when you get it, take pictures of EVERY Splicer you fight. But don't take the picture of the same Splicer twice. That will garuntee you get all the research points. I made the mistake of forgetting to take pictures until the end, and missed out on a few of those. Mostly the turrets, cameras, bots, Big Daddys, and Little Sisters.
You can take multiple pictures of the same splicer/turret/camera/etc. It just gives you fewer points with a "C" grade. I researched them a lot faster by maxing out the amount of pics I could take for each one.
Ok, so I'm going back through Neptune's Folly before moving on, and I get that damned message about the Little Sisters again! It says:
"You have not RESCUED or HARVESTED all the LITTLE SISTERS on this deck.
You need ADAM from them to become more powerful.
It will be very DIFFICULT to survive without getting more ADAM."
The thing is, I've rescued the four LS that appear in the pause menu. How can I be missing any?
If you kill a Big Daddy that doesn't have a Little Sister walking with him, will there be an unguarded Little Sister somewhere in the level, or did you just waste your time?
Little Sisters always have a Big Daddy with them.
