A man chooses, a slave obeys.
I am getting the game next week, yippee
I am surprised that our resident PC fanboy Yoshi is playing this on 360, especially after bagging on the more expensive 360 version for the past month or so. :D
Hi guys.
Seeing as my PC is in the shop and I'm reading this over at a friend's place, I don't have time to research this properly-
Does Bioshock on 360 have crashing issues? Last night it froze for a few seconds before hacking a gun turret, and then two hours later locked up for good as I tried to hack something else. Today it froze solid when I tried to pick up the Fire plasmid in the second level. Is my 360 dying or is Bioshock less stable than it should be?
James
I ran into the problem a few times where it would freeze for a few seconds after picking up plasmids or when I went to hack a turret, but it never locked up completely on me.
Mine only locked up on me once, when I was chasing after that dude with the molotov cocktails that Cohen wanted me to kill.
Never had it happen again on either playthrough.
Ok, thanks, the game is buggy. I'll just have to save often then. Patch, please! Bioshock is too good to have this kind of crap infesting it.
James
It's never crashed for me. Only bug I've come across is not being able to finish a hack.
I've been playing this on the 360 and I've gotten used to the controls, really. I'm still more comfortable with an FPS on the PC but oh well, the difference is negligible.
I ripped through Neptune's Bounty and Smuggler's Run last night. Arcadia is amazing. I have to go back and kill the Big Daddies now. I'm harvesting the little girls. I really don't care what my consequences are. For the Hoidini Splicers I've found that using the ice plasmid and freezing them in to place works wonders.
My first fight with the Big Daddy was awesome. I had hacked all the security turrets in the medical center and he completely owned both of them. I noticed that when he was frenzied on one of the turrets my electricity bolts didn't jolt him at all. He shrugged them off.
Other than the big daddies owning my traps I haven't found this game that difficult on Normal.
Finished it for my birthday. I got kinda sick of it by the end but blew through it as fast as I could.
Question: Is the only thing that changes in the story like, that last 30 second video? Because if that's the case, I don't give a shit if I play it again.
Not quite as inspired as their HALO 2 review, but here is Something Awful's Truth Media review of Bioshock:

Aaaaand the responses:

ahahah. Awesome.
They're not really that funny. Though they try hard.
Finally got myself to put in the last 5-6 hours between last night and today to finish the game. The story is amazing...probably the best I've ever come across in a videogame. The gameplay felt a lot like filler and the fetch quests and escort missions were kinda lame. Overall it was fun, but it's definitely getting traded in towards Halo 3 tomorrow.
So I went ahead and bought it. Even after installing the new nVidia drivers it still crashes my computer, so that was a waste of $50. I certainly know I need to build my computer from scratch, you can only replace parts so long before you need to just say OK time to start over.
Also I have some of the worst luck known to man when it comes to PC hardware. And the best luck when it comes to Sony Consoles lol
Did you get the OMFG MADE FOR BIOSHOCK nvidia drivers?
Yeah :/
Anyone know what the update does? I think it just made the audio get worse.
Finished it today and it kicked ass. Final boss was a little disappointing but overall I loved the game all the way through. I'm missing 9 achievements (2 I should have gotten, the game thought otherwise though), I'll probably play through Hard mode sometime down the line.
Finished yesterday, and it's up there with RE4 and the first Prime as far as I'm concerned.
I got way too powerful 2/3 of the way through - I was leaving money and items everywhere - but other than the resulting lack of challenge, it was absolutely fantastic start to finish.

officials from Take-Two have hinted at BioShock becoming a long-term franchise on a 'roughly 2 year interval
I like the idea of more Bioshock but I hope they don't milk it every 2 years.
Seems like with every patch the game gets continually choppier. I never had an issue with it out of the box. It's only been since the updates that the game has become sluggish.
The simple fact that Take-Two thinks creative gaming like this can be churned out like clockwork shows you how dumb their management is. The Grand Theft Auto series has gotten increasingly less interesting with every version released since III. I'm interested in seeing the story continue somehow but i hope they don't chain those valuable Aussies to a ridiculous timeline.
I wouldn't mind content packs for the existing Bioshock. A hardcore mode, maybe, where dying takes money and some ammo or weapons, or do without vita-chambers altogether. Add some plasmids and tonics and I'd play through it again.
I doubt "creative gaming" factors in at all in Take 2's goals. If it was, they'd give Irrational free reign to come up with another new IP and go to town. They simply see a money-maker in the BioShock brand and will now proceed to milk it for as long as possible.
I really don't think the Bioshock well is all that dry yet. There is potential for quite a bit in that setting.
Hell, even if the story is half as good as the current one, it will still be a worthy game.
2 years sounds good to me.
2 years isn't enough development time IMO. They're going to be rushing.
Halo 2 anyone?
I'm almost finished with this game. It rocks.
I just started and getting killed by BDs. Any good ways to take them down faster?
Electric Buckshot.
Hacked turrets.
Electric Buckshot, Static Discharge, Armor Piercing machine gun rounds were how I killed them before I got the crossbow.
It's really too powerful a weapon. Bouncer Big Daddys can be coaxed into a 5+ trap arrow array, killing him instantly.
Telekinesis any cylinders or barrels into the big daddy and run. Best place to get the hang of it is on the BD you first encounter in Neptune's Bounty. 2 cylinders & 2 barrels near the Gatherer's Garden machine.
Also agree with electric buck as well as explosive buck. Crossbow is super powerful and so satisfying. I probably spent half my money on bolts after I picked it up.
I took down BDs quick with crossbow bolts, particularly the explosive kind.
I didn't use the crossbow that much. It was fun shooting people with the trap bolts though.
I'd really like to see a PC mod that adjusts the difficulty of the game, Working Designs-style. Like reduced damage from electrobuck rounds, Vita-Chambers that cost money or Adam, and a bigger difference in the rewards for harvesting versus rescuing Little Sisters (with global adjustments to Plasmid costs to compensate).
Finished it tonight, it's fantastic. Definitely going back to get 1000/1000 eventually. This game's a keeper.
Towards the start of the game, I took out Big Daddies at a distance w/telekinesis & the machine gun w/armor piercing.
Later, I softened em up with prox mines, then hit em with a combo of Electro Bolt 3 + the wrench w/static discharge 2, sport boost 2 & bloodlust - they went down real fast. Don't have to wait to reload either.
I am playing the 360 version. The first time I played it, the game was very smooth. When I played it last night and tonight, there are stuttering (the game literally stops) for like 1/2 second. It is really annoying. It seems to be random (maybe it is streaming but it is hard to tell). It happens literally every 30 seconds. I have no idea why but it is driving me crazy. Is anyone experiencing the same thing?
I've read about it, but haven't experienced it... yet...
Okay so it is not just me or my copy. Goddamn it. I am loving this game but the stuttering just kills me.
Hold the bumpers while the game loads, that seems to fix it.
I don't know if it would actually do anything, but maybe try clearing your cache?
Yah, Neptune's Bounty. I keep forgetting names.

You're probably right, and that's a fundamental flaw in their business operations. Instead of just making new brands that are awesome and keeping this one coming out when it's a good time for a well-built release they're limiting their market growth potential exponentially for some short term gain. BioShock and GTA became popular because they were quality, fun games. If they release games that are sub-par or flood the market with them too closely together it will dilute the brands.
This is all assuming their shorter release schedules produce shitty games. If they're awesome then, well, oh well. No harm, no foul.
I'm going under the assumption this is the case. How long was BioShock in development anyway? The sequel has to offer something new besides some different guns to shoot at things with.
$10 says Andrew Ryan and Fontaine live to fight for rapture another day because they were revived by vita-chambers, maybe thats why ryan didnt put up much of a fight when you would you kindly killed him
MAN = CHOOSES
SLAVE = OBEYS
*thwack*
"The iceman cometh, Ryan baby. The iceman fucking cometh!"
I'm not a big FPS guy, though the genre has been growing on me lately. But, fucking Bioshock is excellent and as good a game as the 360 has to offer.
i think me and Haoh had small marathons with this last night. i watched my bro play most of it on hard and saving the sisters. i put it on easy and am harvesting them. i'm tempted to crank up the difficulty because i didn't think easy would be that........easy.
I'll be putting in a big marathon in on Monday to finish this thing. I finally have a day off where all I'm going to do is play games. It's been a loooooooong time since I've had one of those.
one thing i noticed last night. i'm running the game on my 22" viewsonic in 720 widescreen mode (on the 360). i also have the option turned off to limit the fps and right now sometimes i get REALLY bad v-sync issues. anybody else get this? i'm wondering if i turn on the fps cap if it would fix the issue.
I tried holding down the bumpers during loading but the stuttering is still there. WTF.
