KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A baby born prematurely in a McDonald's restroom Monday was recovering at a Kansas City hospital Wednesday and was expected to survive.

The boy, born at about 32 weeks gestation, was in stable condition.

The newborn's 20-year-old mother gave birth on the toilet at her workplace and tried three times to flush the baby, police said.

As of Tuesday, police hadn't yet been able to speak to the mother -- because she was receiving medical treatment -- and prosecutors hadn't filed any charges in the case by late Tuesday.

The woman was working at the drive-through window and appeared to be in pain when she went to the restroom. After 15 minutes, an employee went to the restroom to check on the woman and immediately called 911.

The child was still in the toilet and wasn't breathing when paramedics arrived, police said.

They revived the baby and took him to one hospital and his mother to another.

"The mother told paramedics that she didn't know she was pregnant," said Capt. Rich Lockhart, of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.

It was not clear whether the woman had other children, he said.

John Jelinek, who owns and operates the McDonald's restaurant, said he was "truly shocked by the unfortunate incident."

"The safety and well-being of my customers and employees is always my top priority," Jelinek said in a written statement Tuesday afternoon. "As this is a pending police matter, it would be inappropriate to discuss further."

Reacting to the news, McDonald's customer Becky Martin said, "I have four children, and I love them dearly, and I couldn't imagine hurting them for anything in this world."

The mother's neighbor, Gayle Kizine, told KCTV5 News that the woman was a "heavy girl," so she couldn't tell that she was pregnant.

Kizine described the woman as a quiet person who stayed to herself and helped her grandmother.

"I don't know what happened, so I'm not going to judge anybody," Kizine said. "I just hope she gets her baby back and they're both safe."

It's hard to believe she didn't know she was pregnant, but if it's true, I can understand how it would freak one out enough to do something like that.

Huh, so my feces is coming out of the wrong hole down there and it sorta looks like a human person instead of the normal brown coil of shit that I usually excrete. Why won't it flush down?

That kid is lucky that there wasn't a plunger in the room.

Or a hanger. I've had to chop up unusually large BMs when it was clear they would be a problem on flush.

1.) This kid will be one of the more emotionally fucked individuals in this world beacuse of this incident.

2.) He's going to have a serious aversion to eating at McDonald's for the rest of his life.
