And I forgot to check until just now. It's about fucking time.

So, has anyone tried out this new Castlevania yet? Was it worth all of Yoshi's agony?
I like it, though it is pretty easy on the default difficulty. It's definitely worth $10.
Damn it! I want to play this but my kids are watching Phineas and Ferb.
They need to fall asleep NOW.
Wtf is going on in Yoshi's av? That needs changed.
What's this?
A sale on a virtual console game?!?
The end is truly near.
Confirmed. DL'd it yesterday. It plays like butta'. Kinda' looks and sounds like some mythical Genesis that never existed. Like a Genesis 64z or something. Definitely doesn't feel SNES or TG-16... Don't know why it gives me such a Genesis vibe since the Genny could never do anything like this.
The cool thing is that levels are open enough to keep the Metroidvania exploration feel while still being a straight-forward action platformer.
You can even chose to play with classic "no steer" jumps or not.
Oh, and the canned sound effects are priceless.
Maybe the 32X could have handled it. It looks like a first-gen Saturn or Playstation game to me but sounds older. Either way, M2 has a knack for making games that seem authentically like stuff from past eras.Quote:

Looks like Rondo of Blood is going to finally come to the VC in the US. At least according to the ESRB.
It's about fucking time.
Now Konami just needs to port Xexex somewhere else so I can banish my PSP forever.
Blaster Master Overdrive for Wiiware this Monday:
http://www.sunsoftgames.com/news/201...rOverdrive.php
Quote:
Redding, CA – February 6, 2010 – SUNSOFT, a division of SUNCORPORATION (JASDAQ: 6736), has today announced that BLASTER MASTER™:OVERDRIVE will be available in North America on February 8th for WiiWare.
BLASTER MASTER™:OVERDRIVE is an action-shooting game that takes place on an Earth infected by an aggressive, polymorphic virus. Poor, defenseless animals worldwide infected by the virus have been turned into flesh-eating, hemoglobin-swilling terrors. Fortunately, the world has Alex. And, even more coincidentally, he happens to be one of the world’s foremost biologists - specializing in viral mutation profiles and genetic manipulation.
Every studious biologist facing imminent global annihilation needs a sweet ride, and Alex is no exception. He has S.O.P.H.I.A., a shape-shifting, gas-guzzling, projectile-spewing paean to destruction on four wheels. Things look grim, but with Alex and S.O.P.H.I.A. on the case, the world just may have a chance.
Gameplay in BLASTER MASTER™:OVERDRIVE retains the critically acclaimed format of the original NES BLASTER MASTER™, alternating between side-scrolling platforming in S.O.P.H.I.A. and overhead-perspective blasting and exploration when controlling Alex. Upgrades for S.O.P.H.I.A. must be collected to access progressively more challenging terrain and a total of eight distinct areas. Each area features a mutant boss that must be defeated to progress.
The sublime blend of side-scrolling shooting/platforming mixed with overhead perspective action/shooting areas is just as addictive now as it was in the original game. The game is rated E10 for Mild Fantasy Violence and can be purchased from the Wii Store online for 1000 Wii points beginning February 8th, 2010.
As with the BLASTER MASTER NES Virtual Console release, fans are encouraged to improve their skills completing this game so they can compete and win in a coming promotion that will test their skill for collectible prizes.

Damn, WiiWare has had some great stuff, and this has potential too. I wish all of these games were in HD, but at least they aren't asking $50 for them.
Huh. I was expecting something along these lines from all of Vic's hype, but not so soon. Hopefully it's not as rushed as it seems.
This link has some screen shots of this. I loved the NES Blaster Master, but I'm not sold on these screen shots. I'm hopeful, though.
Ugh. Those backgrounds are hideous and lazy.
I dunno, those shots seem pretty nice to me. Looks somewhere between 32-bit and 16-bit 2D, which is more progressive than most WiiWare retro projects.
You're nuts. (Good) 16-bit 2D had parallax scrolling at least. This appears to have static backgrounds. Hopefully seeing videos will re-raise my hopes though, as I am all for worthy $10 games.
Yoshi is worth $40.
Jesus what a bad typo. lol
WOW that looks bad.
Could they have provided screens that are any more blurry? I don't have high hopes for this although odds are it will be better than the Genesis and Playstation games in the series.
I think it looks just fine.
You a "glasses man"?
Not at all. Look, it's not fantastic but I'll take this over the 2.5D remakes that have been turning up lately.
2.5D isn't inherently bad, IMO. Bad art direction doesn't care if it's polygons or pixels. This is bad art direction.
Equally bad art direction looks worse in 2.5D. Not to mention 2.5D NEVER plays as well either.
Bionic Commando Rearmed says that you're wrong.
I'm not sure what you guys are looking at where it looks awful. It looks like a good Playstation game, although if those really are static it'll look really cheap.
I'm satisfied with how it looks. Remember, it's the wii.
Some wiis are less satisfying than others.
I think it looks ok, but the screens are too blurry to really appreciate them.
Blaster Master Overdrive Video:
Looks like it could be good. Is Victor Ireland connected to this as well? I really hate the idea of doing anything that gives him money.
SEE. IT LOOKS GOOD.
It looks okay, but the gameplay seems like it can be fun so I am interested.
It certainly looks better in motion than in those stills, but I still don't get why the nicer backgrounds go away under ground.
I was sold when I read a new Blaster Master that plays like the NES original. Very few things in gaming have disappointed me like Blaster Master 2 on the Genesis.
I've got my points ready to go for tomorrow. I can't wait.
I love how this shit comes out in two days when Castlevania took months.
IBTN
I truly don't remember why people hate that guy. Anyone care to fill me in? If it wasn't for Working Designs we never would have gotten Alundra so he can't be all bad.
This is because Konami sucks anymore. They went downhill when they put Iga in charge of CV and focused on nothing but DDR games.
For me, there are three reasons:
- He "fixed" shit that wasn't broken in games, like changing the gameplay in Silhouette Mirage and adding bad political jokes in Lunar.
- He forced useless extras on the consumer at a premium price. WD games weren't like BlazBlue where you got bonuses for the first print run at the same price. You paid for that useless shit like cloth maps and plastic standees.
- D-E-L-A-Y-S
He would make promises he never delivered on. He thinks he's gods gift to translating games. Games would be delayed for fucking months while Vic took the time to find just the right fake leather for the fancy instruction booklet. He's acting like a child over Xseed bringing over the PSP Lunar. He seems to think he's a better designer than the people who designed the games he just fucking translates.
The PSone Lunar packages were amazing...the puppet was overboard though. Vic has the Telenet catalog too right? Here's hoping for Arcus remake.
If you played the Lunars on the Sega CD, like God intended, you wouldn't have given two shits about the PS1 packages. WD was useful during the 16-bit era for Sega CD and Turbo CD releases. They were negative value-add during the 32-bit era.
Alundra was fucking phenomenal. I didn't like the PS1 Lunars anywhere near as much as the Sega CD versions, but that's a problem for Game Arts. And from firsthand experience, I can pretty much guarantee no extras caused a second's worth of delay to a game's release, and if you didn't want to pay extra just wait the usual six months for a price drop.
I'm definitely liking the "announce today, out tomorrow" method of Blaster Master's release, though.
James
I never played all the way through Lunar SSSC like I did the Sega CD original but Lords of Lunar was a neat bonus for Warlords fans. WD wasn't all bad in the 32-bit era. Besides the mention of Alundra, having Elemental Gearbolt and Sega Ages Vol. 1 localized was awesome.
Day
Fucking
One.
I might even be off tomorrow from the jacked up snow. They kept the music amg it's so rad.
This looks rad. I'm in.
Damn, I've bought more WiiWare games than XBLA games in the last few months. The quality has really picked up.
Please, SSSC nipped and tucked the drawn-out mess that was Sega CD Lunar, plus a better magic system and end game. Eternal Blue complete was a dissappointment but still better than 95% of it's peers. Anyone who frequented the import market or god forbid, bought AES shouldn't bitch about premium box rape.
WD deserves kudos for porting Dragon Force too.
WD provided a valuable service. I'd rather live in a world where I could play some of those games than not. If they didn't start to believe they were the only ones capable of translating slightly niche Japanese games, they could still be around today, competing with Atlus or whatever.
Sunsoft was so good on the NES. What happened?
The same thing that happened to all of us. They were new, they had unlimited potential and then... They grew up, Tain. They grew up.
There has yet to be a Batman game as good as Sunsoft's.
WD brought us Iron Storm, which I really enjoyed as well.
Can we get a rebirth of this pls.
DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
OK, fine, hold that note forever, I don't care... but why do you flash Batman for like a second??
edit: shit, the music in this game is so rad
Sunsoft had NES music on fucking lockdown.
That segue from music to falling sound back to music... GENIUS
Innovators!
Okay, I'm sold! I'll be buying this in a few more hours!
Does anyone know what time they make games available on WiiWare?
Thanks
Sunsoft could become awesome again anymore!
 Yeah but your mom can't. She's a used up old rag..........anymore.
I like there game's to!
Speaking of which, this longplay of Gimmick is pretty awesome and basically the only good use of Youtube annotations ever.
Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom is on VC today anymore.
FINALLY.
Mr. Gimmick looks really fun!
Someone needs to post Blaster Master Overdrive impressions stat!
Already looks ace - the inclusion of a map is the biggest plus for the game. Is it a remake though? A sequel? A ReBirth whateverthehell?
Dang! Mr. Gimmick looks amazing! I know what I'm playing this weekend.
So far I like it. The controls seem a bit more sluggish than I remember them being in the original game. It doesn't really hurt the S.O.P.H.I.A. parts at all. The parts on foot suffer a bit more from the controls. They still work fine but I don't see how anything like the crab battle from the first game could ever happen. The movement just feels a bit more restricted.
The on foot areas have been pretty lame so far too. There isn't anything really wrong with them, they are just a bit too simple. I just killed the first boss and though I have some complaints, it's pretty good. So far it feels like a watered down version of the original.
One other complaint, you can't use the classic controller. I'm not sure why but it forces you to use the Wii remote.
Gimmick is seriously rough. The videos don't really show how crazy momentum-based it is.
i'm kinda having trouble thinking of better NES games than Sunsoft's bunch, no joke
Ufouria is pretty awesome too, though also incredibly sadistic. Sunsoft was definitely one of the best NES developers.
I don't like how you move slower on foot when walking diagonally than vertically or horizontally. I also don't like having to hold the B button to strafe. Why did Sunsoft not include Classic Controller support?
that looks so not as cute as the original versionQuote:

Are any of the original developers even with Sunsoft anymore? They did some awesome stuff on NES and GB, but this revival has me a bit skeptical. I like their GB version of Batman. It's a bit short, but very fun, and has some nice shmup stages. It has some nice music too. It's odd that Batman has a gun in it, though.
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
The music in the trailer is better than the music in the game... why not use the trailer music for stage one? I don't even get it.
Also: Could the tank movement noise be more annoying? Shit.
I doubt it. I wonder how many of their NES games were developed in-house anyway. I have seen the original Blaster Master and Journey to Silius credited as being made by Tokai Engineering which could be an outside developer but it's hard to find info.Quote:

I'm in area 3 and it's starting to feel more like the NES BM. The difficulty has picked up a bit and it's not such a cake walk. It's definitely worth the $10 but the lack of Classic Controller/GC support is mind boggling. I was really hoping to use my SNES controller for this game.
