That guy kicks ass.

ROMs are only legal if you own the physical cartridge AND personally make the ROM dump for your own use.
For example, if you buy the DVD of Star Wars and also buy a crappy hot version off the street for $3, the fact that you own a legitimate copy doesn't make the other one legal.
The VC games are like the Wii itself. "Overpriced" if you look at Nintendo's profit margins, but not necessarily overpriced if you consider what you're getting for your dollar.
Volleyball (NES)
Axelay (SNES)
Blue's Journey (NeoGeo)
Axelay is a sale. Blue's Journey would be if I knew it wasn't going to be in that PS2 collection that is coming.
Blue's Journey is one of the worst Neo Geo game ever made (right up there with Legend of Success Joe).
I like Blue's Journey more now than back then. At the time it was somewhat disappointing to me as the first mascot platformer on the system given the competition on other consoles. Today, I see it as a solid Wonder Boy-influenced platformer.
Many places are reporting that WWE No Mercy is being released soon, with adjusted rosters, considering that half the wrestlers in the game are dead, and the other half don't work for the company anymore.
But will Jeremy buy this? Hmmm....

Little blurb near the bottom.

It's Friday and we're all still reeling from the news that NPD numbers won't be gracing us in the weeks ahead, but as the latest issue of EGM falls into subscriber hands, the Quartermann's able to bring you the latest rumors. And lest we forget, Quartermann was right on the money about Bionic Commando.
This month, an old rumor resurfaces in a new form, as BioShock is apparently back on for PlayStation 3. Previously, it'd been speculated that Microsoft tied up 2K Games' aquatic adventure as an exclusive, but there's a change in the tide, as the world of Rapture may be Cell-enabled in 2008, after all.
And while Metal Gear fans are pouting over the most recent Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots delay, Kojima Productions hasn't been snoozing about taking the series in other directions. While everyone else is taking their franchises to Nintendo DS, Metal Gear is sticking to PSP, with a brand-new (that's not a spin-off) game headed to the portable, this time taking Snake back to the early days of his career.
We'll leave you with two last tidbits. One, THQ's WWF: No Mercy for the Nintendo 64 is coming back via the WiiWare service with completely updated rosters. Two, the lackluster performance of Sonic the Hedgehog hasn't deterred Sega; they're already hard at work at another "real" Sonic game. 2D, please!
See you next month, and make sure to check out the latest issue of EGM's special holiday "Games Overload" issue, landing in the hands of subscribers any day now.
What a shitty way to kick off WiiWare gaming.
Only interesting bit I got out of that was Bioshock for PS3. Would definitely sway me to the Blu-ray side. *-neo
Nothing to really follow up Axelay and Alien Soldier....
-Wrecking Crew (NES, Nintendo):
- Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis, Sega):
- Super Air Zonk (TurboGrafx16, Hudson):
Super Zonk is supposed to be medicore but trying it without paying $200 is tempting. *-neo
Is Super Air Zonk the same thing as Air Zonk? If not, what's the difference?
Nothing? Wrecking Crew is boss. Boss Hogg.
Air Zonk was designed by the Coryoon team, aside from flicker it's a decent example of the Turbo's power. Super Air Zonk is a sequel, strips out many power-ups, lack of scrolling, etc. *-neo
The music is great, though.
I dunno about that. A lot of them sound like MIDIs run through cheap Casios. Games like Gate of Thunder and Super Air Zonk are the exception, not the rule.
Interesting. They're similar types of shooters but I didn't know that as the publishers are different. I assumed Air Zonk was done in-house by Hudson with Red doing the art. Who's the developer?Quote:

Another interesting PCE rumor I read in Retro Gamer is Nintendo headhunted the team at UPL that made Gomola Speed and Atomic Robo Kid. Good taste on the N's part if true. *-neo
After seeing in the PSP thread that I can now download games to my PSP without a PS3, I thought I check out the site. Its not bad, a few games here and there. Check out the prices. $5.99 for a PSone! WTF! Nintendo needs to get the hint and lower their prices. $5 for a NES games vs $6 for a PSone game. Awesome. And I can play the games on the PSP or PS3, cant do that shit with the DS.
Give it an even month to be announced.
"Here and there?" If you're buying from US PSN, there's almost nothing to choose from. VC may be expensive, but at least there's a good amount of stuff worth spending money on.
There is nothing on VC worth spending the outrageous prices they want on.
That's not at all true. While, say, Altered Beast is most definitely not worth $8 today, $6 for Devil's Crush is a great deal, and you're generally not getting a Sin & Punishment cart for $12. While I'd also like prices to be lower, I'm compelled to pay it every now and then for quality titles.
Has anyone seen a PS1 game recently? They haven't aged well.
I'll go boot up some PS1 games after I go post in the PS3 thread about how poorly the N64 library has aged.
It depends on the game. 2D games, if the art is decent, still look decent. Games that deliberately use angular objects, such as the Wipeout series, also still look somewhat decent (though WO1's popup is a little jarring in this day and age).
BTW a hearty LOL to the releases for today.
Vegas Stakes, Double Dribble and Ecco Jr.
Yeecccch. I mean, I have followed the VC releases and this is by the worst so far. Wow.
The coolest thing about DD was the voice at the beginning.
"Double Dwibble!"
Hay look
Wiimote aiming update for S+P plz
Coo. Now if they could expand the original game to include more Pokeemans and levels, it'd be worth buying.
I love Ecco Jr. It's the best Ecco.
This week:
Zanac NES
Eternal Champions Genesis
The Dynastic Hero Turbo Duo
Might be in the minority but I'm a fan of Dynastic Hero, it's Basically WonderBoy Genesis with less vivid graphics but a great soundtrack and cute character redesigns. *-neo
Wow, more crap. I'm bored and I would actually buy something if it didnt suck total nuts.
YORE BIASED, MELF!
The Air Zonk team (+/- some people) also worked on 1943 Kai, W Ring: The Double Rings, Alzadick, Coryoon (all PCE), and Spike McFang (SNES). May have been some internal Naxat team. I don't know.
Super Air Zonk was by Dual.
Some of the people who worked on Atomic Robo-Kid went on to form Scarab.
As usual, you're an idiot if can play PS2 imports and you get Dynastic Hero instead of this
Unless you really, really want to own every version of every WB game and don't feel like paying the $400 or so that the TGCD costs.
<spam>I've got a more complete list and history on my site</spam>, but the most notable of Scarab's games are the cheesy digitized fighters Survival Arts (Arcade) and Battle Monsters (Saturn), the Zen Nihon Pro Wres series (Saturn/Arcade/Dreamcast), Fighting Vipers 2 (Dreamcast), and Dyna Gear (Arcade - worth checking out).
Battle Monsters? How did they escape prison?
Pokemon Snap (N64)
Ghosts N Goblins (NES)
Baseball Stars 2 (NEO)
Baseball Stars is rad, but not 900pts rad.
I think Pokemon Snap is actually enhanced to work with the Wii remote's pointer. Do this with Sin and Punishment pls.
I'd dl Pokeeman's Nap if i had points/money to spare. It's rad too, just not money i don't have rad.
i know Slip works there but this comment at Joystiq boggles the mind.
-Baseball Stars 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points): We're not familiar with Baseball Stars 2, but everything we've read about the game appears to be pretty positive. We only wish the Wii functionality could have trickled down here for all the big-screen TV-smashing action that we crave.-
wtf? how can you NOT know of or played BS2?
re Joystiq: The fuck?
Isnt Ghost N Goblins already on the VC for Genesis? I dont think Pokemon Snap does anything with the Wii Pointer. You can just send pictures to your friends now.
Gay!
Now that we can gift games, should we do a Virtual Console secret santa?
i loved pokemon snap, i may jsut get it :X
I think the way it works is you buy the game and it goes directly to the recipient's account (you never actually have the game on your Wii).
If that secret santa thing ever takes off, keep in mind that you are not permitted to gift VC games across countries. US > Canada will not work.
Cool feature. I think sending each other crap may be a little cumbersome but I have a little cousin who is getting a Wii for Xmas and it will be neat to send him a game every few weeks.
Today is
Cybernator
Alien Storm
Monster Lair.
Cybernator look k-rad and i'm interested in Monster Lair.
Didn't Cybernator get a pretty neat sequel, also?
Metal Marines or something named similar.
Cybernator's sequel was the Genesis game Target Earth/Assault Suit Leynos.
Target Earth came out first.
I assume this Monster Lair is the Turbo CD one which is good as it's the one NEC-published Wonder Boy port better than the Sega one.
Cybernator is fantastic. I shouldn't be thinking about getting it, but I am. :(
Yep.
I hope so. The Genesis version was mediocre at best, and the TG-CD one is awesome. One of the best soundtracks on the system too.Quote:

It is the TG-CD version apparently. Review.
For those who want to know the differences:
COUNTER!!
The reviewer put this in the same genre as Contra? Good call.
You run, you gun. I'd say it fits the mold overall. It's a lot closer to Contra in gameplay than it is to a shooter like Blazing Lasers or Soldier Blade, neither of which are even horizontal.
I would say it fits the run 'n gun genre. Not everything in that genre is a Contra clone.
It should be, damn it.
Have you played Contra 4 yet? I was reading a GI mag in EWR and they were gushing over it more than the TNLers were.
It doesn't exist, and neither does Metal Slug 7. They are like unicorns.
That's the weirdest Metal Slug 7 screen I've ever seen.
Most appropriate, though.
Metal Slug >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Contra
Like you know.
I mean the whole series. I can't compare the unicorns.
Then you sir, are missing someting magical.
Clearly.
It's cool, I do not like green eggs and ham either.
SFC pad to be released in April
Limited Nintendo Club item, so pricing and availability 'll be a bitch.
Likely won't be long before a classic SNES pad shows up in North America.
Anyone tried one of the unofficial adaptors on the market? I know it says only official will work, but I have an unofficial or two with individual turbo switches for the buttons (and proper 4 color buttons!) that I would love to use again.
I think they were just implying that it won't work with strange specialty controllers like light guns, rather than 3rd party pads. I don't see why an AsciiPad wouldn't work. Not saying that I've tried it, but that's what I took away from it.
If you want a mediocre pad you don't need to convert an SNES one. The Classic Controller will do.
I have the classic controller, I just want to dig out the old Asciipad to use and skip trying to track down the limited Super Famicom controller when they popup. I know one store was already listing it as $40 with the possibility of going higher.
Hopefully Nintendo releases something good on the VC tomorrow for Xmas. Last year I got to download Super Castlevania after getting my Wii for a present.
Super Mario All-Stars and one of the Pilotwings, please.
