Don't listen to these crazy fucks. Landstalker is fucking brilliant. I think Startropics is a better game than Zelda and I think Landstalker is easily better than both. As usual Yoshi is fucking clueless on a great adventure game. If Zelda had some homo in a space suit instead of an elf he would be slurping it at the nut sack.
No, the elf has nothing to do with why Zelda is overrated as hell. Star Fox Adventures used the same formula, had dinosaurs, and still sucked. Jet Force Gemini had the space setting you mention and sucked too.
Oblivion is Zelda done correctly.
Oblivion is way different than Zelda even if you label them as the same genre. I never thought to compare Jet Force Gemini to Zelda (Rare's games have their own special brand of tedium so I wouldn't blame the genre).
I wish Yoshi would just acknowledge that Zelda-style action-adventure games aren't inherently bad; he just isn't into them. If you don't like Zelda, Landstalker, Shadow of the Colossus, BG&E or Okami (all highly praised games with similar design), then you just don't like that side of the genre. That's fine. I don't care for most RTS games but that doesn't mean I think Starcraft is way overrated.

I can't believe anyone would knock Landstalker. I admit that the isometric view can make jumping a pain until you get used to it, but the game is incredible. The visuals are awesome, the dungeon design is challenging but fair, and the characters are likable. It's an awesome adventure that needs to be in any self-respecting Genesis fan's collection, and if you haven't played it, the VC download is well worth the points.

There's always the risk of an electrical fire, but besides that, nearly acceptable amounts of radiation are the only issues.
1080 was a great game on the N64. I'm not sure how well it stands up to todays standards, but I played the shit out of it "back in the day." I actually consider it to be a semi-classic along the lines of Wave Race 64. However, all that being said, 1080 is worth nowhere near $10 in this day and age.
Also, I would still pick 1080 over SSX3 because SSX3 was bland and boring. Tricky was tons of fun, but SSX3 is overrated.

I finally beat Star Tropics today, and I can't state enough what a great experience this game was. Its easily jumped into my top 10 favorite games now. Its a shame that I waited 16+ years to play this game. If only all the games out on Virtual Console were this good...
Now I'm off to download Landstalker, and I'll see how that one stacks up :)
It might take you a few minutes to get used to the isometric view but trust me, the puzzles are second to none.
I don't know if this has come up before are there any VC sales/downloads figures available? I'm curious how many people are playing the underdog games (TG16 stuff, Genesis titles like Wonder Boy in Monster World, imports like Sin and Punishment, etc.).
Hrm, maybe VC pricing isn't as much as a ripoff as we think.
Granted, the differences come from a few titles (like Alien Storm being 8 on the VC and an actual cart nearly costing $100), but then you need to factor the value of having the actual game and the ability to resell it. I just thought it to be somewhat interesting; haven't looked at it enough to pick it apart any further.
I think a lot of these games showing up on compilations that sell for 20-30 dollars is what really skews comparisons. So maybe we're getting ripped off for used games too, or just getting a good deal on the compilations (given that you care about more than 1-2 games on them)?
the difference is that normally compilations also have stuff added to them, whereas VC games do not. i mean they don't even have netplay at the very least (which would make them infinately more worthwhile).
Even online scoreboards for applicable games.
VC games are ripoffs, plain and simple. I am not buying them.
For some folks, VC is the easiest "etihical" way to play games they liked years ago. It's good business sense for Nintendo to put their catalog to work for 'em, it makes less sense for them to add content, unfortunately.
I bought Devil's Crush yesterday on VC. It's fun, and I don't have a TG16 anymore so what the hell. Yeah I could probably just play it on my modbox but I didn't feel like fucking around.
I'm actually considering going through and selling some of my old shit like Sin and Punishment and just re-buying it on VC. Less clutter around the house and maybe make a few bucks along the way.
Same with shit like Rez on the 360 - I don't feel the need to have the physical games laying around anymore.
Only VC game I've bought so far is Super Star Soldier because it was a shit load cheaper than buying the HuCard.

People who are willing to pay for overpriced games on VC. This only encourages Nintendo to be lazy and overcharge for them.
There is not a single game on XBLA or PSN that is even in the neighborhood of quality with several of the best VC titles, and no amount of online leaderboards or achievements is going to change that. I would pay more for online play in multiplayer titles, but that doesn't mean that $5 for Castlevania is not a fair price.

The fact is that these VC games are lazy emulated roms with NOTHING added whatsoever. In the past 2 generations, we have seen classic game packs jam packed with both great games and bonus stuff for $20 to $30 and now you are willing to pay MORE for LESS.

I like VC. I did complain about the prices a good deal, but I'm past it. I certainly get my money's worth in terms of convenience and entertainment, and I really like the Classic Controller. I just want button config on N64 (or all) games and then I'll be okay.
Also: true low res. We set up the modbox we used to have here against the Wii playing SMB3, and yeah, it makes a pretty huge difference. I don't like the fuzzy look of the TG16 games, but they still look better than playing on my TG16 through RF or my shitty AV-modded PCE.
