Not in the same way.
Also - The main reason I can't stand this place is the religious right. It's bullshit and I'd like to leave when it makes sense to do so. Why is that hilarious?

I was thinking about NZ too... MAYBE WE CAN BE NEIGHBORZ!
America is a great country that's being bamboozled by corporate interests. People know this but can't do anything about it, it seems. If you're so pissed off about the country you live in, Josh, you should get involved with politics and find a candidate you feel can change things. You can run up here to Canada all you want, but the U.S. foreign policy is going to catch up with you regardless of where you end up going.
Since the beginning of civilization people have always fought for more power and territory. The leading civilization is always put under scrutiny because their actions effect other civilizations either directly or indirectly. The other civilizations are eventually going to attempt to take the power away from the leading civilization in a moment of weakness.
After the development of organized religion people had a reason of higher power to hate and be manipulated into attacking people of a different culture, religion, or country.
Frankly, nothing really changes much outside of which civilization is at the helm and the length of time that they remain there. I believe the US has pissed on so many other civilizations for so long that it is only a matter of time before a group like the Taliban exploits us in a moment of weakness.
not really. A ton of the stuff we know about the universe was known before the US was even founded. And the things we have learned since then have either been stolen from other non capitalistic countries or funded by government grants.
I guess you are right if we are only talking about electronics. A good deal of that technology was born from capitalism.
Yes, NASA, a government funded foundation is an excellent example of the power of capitalism.
BTW, love NASA. It is the only government run thing we have that constantly gives back to the economy.
