Are you saving your conclusion for a subsequent playthrough? It sounds like you still prefer Black/Sigma to 2 but still don't view this as a DMC4 sized disappointment. I'm only on the verge of completing stage 4 (I move slow compared to you guys) and I've wavered in my stance just a little bit but still favor this over Sigma. I will not disown Sigma, however.Quote:

I actually got bored and never finished DMC3, but I beat DMC4 a couple times; not sure what happened there. I might be a graphics whore? I definitely had more fun with NG2 than DMC4 though.
I also never played Sigma, thought it was a just a hi-res Black for PS3. I think NG was a better overall package than NG2. I liked the level layouts, enemy variety, boss theory, and pacing better in NG. However, NG2's highs are pretty fucking rad, and beyond anything I remember from the first one. Since it's so uneven, I don't know how to quantify it as a play experience compared to the first, or if I'd bother, since obviously everyone should just play both.
So, yeah, I wanted to play through again, see how it changes. I played a little on Mentor mode, not sure I'm ready for that, seems more frustrating then fun (and I beat NG on Master Ninja).
edit: Randomly, weren't there some Rachel-only levels in Sigma? I was hoping there'd be a hidden character in NG2 or something, even just a model swap would be fun (especially if it's someone with breast physics). When I bought the game, they gave me a code for some hidden costumes, Fiend-Ryu (and 4 color variants)...it looks pretty good, and I like how they use your different costumes in the cutscenes. Rachel Mode with a new axe moveset to work with the combat engine would have been sick. A Sonia Mode (if they must) would have been fine...just give her all of Ryu's moves, but substitute his Ninpo with a rocket launcher attack.
chapter 7 is getting freaking frustrating.
I'm pretty positive that this is intentional. The game doesn't want you getting to your health items if you're low and just got caught by, say, a long-animation throw. Seems like you can only get to the menu in moments where you're free to attack, and anything else will queue it up and pause the game when it's "fair". The start menu in both this and NG/NGB behave the same, I think.Quote:

Tain is right, it's the same as in the 1st game when you couldn't pause when taking damage from throws except for a few certain moments inbetween. You have to just accept that the game isn't gonna let you heal if you get caught slipping by a boss/enemy.
No, I figured out you can't do it during grab animations (although there were times when I couldn't discern any reason why it wouldn't, like I'm just taking normal hits or w/e). There were times when I'd hit the dpad to switch weapons or something and I'd stop blocking (because normally it instantly pauses if you hit the dpad, baring your'e not being grabbed) but the weapon menu wouldn't come up for a few seconds. I assume it's because the game is absolutely scrounging for memory (you might have noticed the game loads again if you switch weapons right after a reload).
edit: Tain, the "queuing until you're free to attack" idea makes sense. That may actually be what's happening, I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Level 8 hates me lol. I also got my 100 hits combo achieve way back on Lvl 6 or 5.
