The one or two points don't look like a lot, but remember how they happened. The Devils won when the pressure was on to steal the division in 2005 and to hold of the Pens in 2006. The Rangers fold each and every time the pressure is on.
Yes, the Devils lost in the second round twice, but both were to the eventual Eastern Conference Champion, and one of those won the Cup. They didn't lose to BuffAHLo.
Thanks to the salary cap, and your idiot GM, the Devils have been, are, and will remain closer to winning another Cup than the Rangers. You can't pay two $3-4M guys $15M total and put a winning team on the ice, and that baggage is there long-term. Hell, can they even get Lundqvist under the cap when they need to? And when they do, will Shanahan and Jagr be gone?
