I've had it both ways, bbobb's and Andrew's, and I can say searing is a waste.
On my honeymoon, I ate so much goddamn raw tuna in Hawaii and it was all fresh, clean and delicious. The Ahi Poke at the luau we went to was fantastic. My second and third helpings were mostly that. It's one of the reasons I want to get back there so badly.
Does anyone have a good icing recipe?
I usely use butter cream, but I have people bitching about my sweets being too rich.
I even tried using gay vegetable based icing and they still bitch.
This was the last one I used.
1 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
2 lb. sifted confectioners' sugar
1/2 c. water
1-1 1/2 tsp. clear vanilla or desired flavoring
Those people are haters. When in recipes, I almost always prefer animal fat to vegetable-based fats. When used to sear/fry/etc., it's another matter.
How bout a cream cheese frosting? Those are the best.
