Personally, I have no problem with people embracing their ethnic origins, be it through the names they choose for their children, the clothes they wear, the foods they eat, or the language they speak - so long as they remember that they live in a country that's incredibly diverse, and that English is the language that unifies us all. You want to speak Spanish, German, Italian, etc.? Fine, but please understand that the vast majority of Americans aren't going to speak multiple languages. While it would be ideal if they did, the fact is that there is no pressing cultural or social need for them to do so.

I could care less what someone names their kid, but I would like people to understand that they need to assimilate when they come to the U.S., just as Americans would if they moved to any foreign country.

Once again it doesn't matter how you put it, if your going to base someone's entire existance on their name, thats shallow and stupid. I mean shit I"ve had doctors named Ying Yang, as long as they can do the fucking job, thats all I care about. I'm not gonna respect someone more just because his name isn't Jack Tompson, but its Yong Moe.

Take this into consideration:

When immigrants first came to this country in their huddled masses during the late 1800's and early 1900's, they sought out to learn ENGLISH, live the AMERICAN dream, and provide a new life that is AMERICAN. They did not come here trying to reseed their Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Polish, or Irish roots - they all became American.

It's like merging on a highway - it's your job to match the speed of traffic, not for all that traffic to slow down and let you in.

It's not our job to accomodate immigrants for their lack of knowlege in the English language/culture. It's their job to adopt the concept of being American and everything associated with it.

I know for a fact that when I travel outside the US - I do everything I can to learn about the country's culture to which I'm visiting. I'll try to learn some of the proper ettiquite, language, and other things. Thinking anything else is just plain ignorant.
