YES! I knew I bought a Wii for a reason. <3 Samba de Amigo.
Gearbox, eh? How odd.
Not that I'm complaining. This desperately needed to happen.
Also: SELECA DE MOOZIK!
I bought this game with the maracas for DC. Played it once. Never touched it again. I don't know why I just typed that. Or why I'm still typing now. Wireless maracas would have been better. Perhaps now...
This game rocked hard on Dreamcast, even with the crappy gamepad.
They have a tough task getting the soundtrack up to par with the first game though; as far as pre-Guitar Hero rhythm games go, it was easily one of the best around.
There damn well better be a maraca controller attachment. Samba de Amigo without shaking sounds is like wEEman playing Gears without a chainsaw.
The wiimote speakers could provide the shaking sounds. I think we're getting maracas though.
Having the Wiimote simulate shaking would be bootleg. You need tactile response from traditional mexican maraca beans to provide an authentic experience. Blv.
I actually do blv that.
Me too.
If this has maracas, and if Nights 2 actually turns out to be good, I'll be sticking with my Wii.
LOL! It takes Sega to make me keep my Nintendo system.
Nice. I'm actually surprised this wasn't a launch title. Best game + system fit ever.
I used to play Samba a lot back in the day.
I used to play a lot of Sega games back in the day.
I'm not getting my hopes up.
The stick in Nintendo's ass dislodged a wii bit. Samba will feature Mii support. *-neo
This makes me happy! :) I've been waiting for this day for a long time.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/866/866500p1.html Here's an article on it.
Tilt sensor? I guess I won't be retiring my DC maracas anytime soon.
I began smiling the moment the Sega logo appeared and didn't stop 'til the end.
Also, monkey.
So, now I have found a reason to buy two more Remotes. If this works well, the day I buy this will be the happiest day of my life.
Definitely picking this up. Probably with the maracas too. Those videos got my excited again.
Holy shit. If I got a Wii it would be solely for this.
omg. I really want this.
and I love that box ... if true.
Maracas? Day 1.
I still kick myself for never getting an official pair for the DC.
I hope it works well. One less reason to keep the DC.... VOOT please come next.
It's looking like Gearbox is nailing it. Nice.
I'll finally have a reason to ask for my Wii back!
Also, now I can recreate Bring It On in my house.
wtf? you need 4 wiimotes to play this? GAY. why couldnt thye just use the nunchuk?
The Nunchuk's have movement sensors in them as well, didn't you play DDR Hottest Party?
It's a recorded fact that the only way I can maintain an erection is by listening to Samba de Janeiro.
lol at the second commercial.
Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
I would actually be happy if they just ported all the songs from the Dreamcast game since I never got to play that one with anything but a controller.
I hate that song.
Holy fuck, I am SO excited for this. That first video had me all sorts of worked up. Any word on online play?
Leaderboards at the most.
I never knew Samba de Janeiro wasn't specifically the Samba de Amigo theme until this thread. It seems weird to see it without a hyper-colorful monkey dancing around.
James
It's a pretty popular song internationally.
For instance, they played it at the UEFA Euro 2008 soccer tournament (the second most-watched sporting event in the world next to the World Cup) whenever a goal was scored.
He's hanging himself. You just can't see the rope.
He's probably jauntily hopping up and down.
I KNOW DON'T RUIN MY SILLY AND MORBID JOKE
Got my order in to Estarland the other day. I can't friggin' wait!
I'm bummed this won't support Wii MotionPlus. Nintendo are bitches for hiding that from third parties. It's still playable but it takes getting used to.
As long as it comes with some plastic shit I can put on top of the maracca in bright red, I will make adjustments.
It works based on how you shake it not so much how you hold it. The middle ones are the ones that feel weird, because you have to shake it horizontally outward (moving away from your body).
That said, it's not like the DC maracas were perfect. They took getting used to and you had to compensate for them as well. So I'd say this is on par with that, but it could have been better if Nintendo cared about their third parties.

Fantastic, now we need cheap plastic maraca wiimote toppers and I'm set.
Also: FUCK YES ULALA!
Downloadable content? for wii points?
Mexican Flyer=hell yes
This game is gonna explode on the Wii.
I might re-buy it. I'll have to play it @ a friends house first.
Played the living shit out of it on the DC, so it might be boring.
Groove Is In the Heart – Dee Lite
So Sega and this one have kissed and made up then?
This song is now running through my head and I can't stop smiling.Quote:
Samba de Janeiro – Bellini
Reel Big Fish, mother fucker.
Reel Big Fish's Take On Me is one of those few covers that I think is leagues better than the original.
I still cry for the fact that I was never able to download the Burning Rangers theme on the original Samba for DC. I sure hope they're unlockable. They won't :(
There are ways to get those files over to a VMU nowadays. I think I still have all of those files.
You'd both be wrong. By leagues.
OMFG YES THIS COMES OUT TODAY WHO HAS IT!?!!?
I heard the controls were garbage.
Pass.
On my way to John's to play this, will report back asap
With two wiimotes = ok
With wiimote and nunchuk = fail.
Damn eStarland! Mine was shipped out today, so I should get it within 2-3 business days. Postal service don't fail me now!
Couldn't rank higher than A on normal. Fuck you wii you were made for this.
My copy shipped out yesterday and I'm pretty hyped for this. It's a great party game especially when women are playing it. Too bad the maracas look like they've been pushed back a few weeks.
The controls are balls. I can't seem to get it calibrated right.
I haven't had a chance to play through much of it so I'll wait and see if I can get the hang of it. I guess I'm just used to the DC and the arcade versions.
I played about 4 songs last night, I didn't have any HUGE problems with the controls, granted the game kinda punishes you if you get into it and start shaking everywhere.
Basically: If you shake maraccas like a ninny, this game is good. If you expect the ladies to come over and shake them tittays while playing, they won't play more than one song.
This displeases me, but I will play to completion for the unlockables.
Calibrating is somewhat retarded as well, since if you do what the screen tells you, almost makes things ass-backwards.
Uhhh, As far as I know, A is as high as you can rank without scoring "perfect" in which case its still an A, at least thats how I remember it in the DC version.
I plan to fiddle with it more today, so hopefully I can cheer you back up after delivering that death blow to you.
I'm curious as to the impact the design of the Wii Maracas may have. Will they address some of the titling complaints?
Yep, the controls are frustratingly inconsistent. It's more like shaking cans of soda than shaking maracas.
Yeah, I just got done getting about halfway through the "normal" mode in career, then played Samba De Janiero on Hard. I don't really know what to say, I mean I prefer the Nunchuk+Wiimote over 2 Wiimote setup, but its very frustrating since its more like pointing the Wiimote or Nunchuk level, up or down to hit the notes.
I still want to unlock some songs, but I'm fairly disappointed on something that should have been amazing out of the box.
Gooch, once you find a good, way, you might just have to get all up close and personal with the ladies and show them how to do it, that way you get a birds eye view if you look over their shoulder?
I had enough. The middle zones are the worst, more than I could bear. I traded this in yesterday for close to a 50% hit and canceled my maracas order. What a damn shame this turned out to be.
Leave it to Sega and Nintendo and Lucas to rape your sweet memories.
This is sad news indeed. Maybe they can make a patch for that added dongle-thing Nintendo's releasing later on and thus make it worthwhile.
This game just goes to show you that even the games that seem like "sure things" aren't always and it's best to wait for reviews and forum impressions.
I almost bought this game for $10 at TRU today, but a little voice inside me screamed . I remembered people complaining about the control.
Damn, this game should have been amazing, or at least as good as the non-motion control version that came out almost a decade ago. LOL Sega.
