So this game is missing a Hard campaign as well as a map/CO shop and the War Room. That might be enough to keep me from picking it up, honestly.

having the CO on the map sounds more than exciting.
To be fair, these aren't tailor-designed for a specific CO opponent like the other games, and they don't give you a saved ranking. It is sort of a gimped War Room. Still, with a hundred or so of those, Trial Battles (harder maps unlocked on as you play the campaign, which seems like a fair substitute for a separate Hard Campaign), and map trading, no one should be hurting for content.
Free Battle was in each of the previous Advance Wars releases, even though it may not have been titled as such. And it's not the same thing as the War Room. This is kind of a big deal for me. I tend to play these games very slowly over several months or more, thanks to the War Room + map shop. It's just not the same this way.
edit: Still, it's a new Advance Wars..
So what's up with the anti-tank unit? Seems like it's the ultimate defensive unit. Anyone come up with a good way to take out those things, preferably with a ground unit?
Did anyone ever pick this up? Is it any good?
Yeah it's pretty good. I like it a lot better than AW2 and AWDS, because they nerfed the CO powers and scrapped that tired old storyline for something new. There is a lot more interplay between the different types of units; land, sea, and air so you have to mix and match when possible and not rely on just a big honking group of War-Tanks, Bombers, or Battleships.
Worst Advance wars so far for me imo, atleast the worst campaign.
I liked the new CO power system but that's about it.
How is it the worst campaign its by far the best. No cutesy hey-a-whole-lot-of-our-guys-died-but-its-ok-cause-war-is-fun. That being said I do miss the old CO's.
