Average age of gamers in here?

As the topic states please give your age.

Please understand that this topic isnt an attempt to undermine younger gamers at all.

Apon looking at allot of posts on this forum I realised that while listing favorite games and classics etc. allot of snes/genny/n64 games are listed.

Personally most of my memories of favorites and or classics are nes/pce/atari so im starting to feel older then my age.

I started gaming at a very young age however so others that are the same age as I am might have started gaming allot later.

So basically im trying to figure out why I seem to have gaming tastes that are older then others here when im sure im not that much older.

Perhaps i have an old spirit and dont like change. :p

BTW, im 24 and can remember playing some sort of game be it an arcade/computer or atari since i was a we lad...

First game I ever played was Mario on NES, guess I was around 5 years old (I'm 19). Very old games don't really appeal to me, unless it was something like Galaga that were in the arcades.

Oddly enough, my earliest memory was playing Double Dribble when I was three or so. Why it was Double Dribble, I have no idea. I don't even like sports games and we never owned Double Dribble. I guess it was a rental...

... I think i was 5 when i first bought a NES... bought it from some guy who had it up in the newspaper... so we bought the NES, Mario, some space shooter game that i could NEVER figure out, and the TV that the guy played it on...

I have been gaming since the Atari 2600, Game & Watch, and those mini arcade cabinet thingys (I had Frogger). :)

I played a few Atari games here and there like pac-man and this tank game but other than that I really started gaming with the NES and up.

Been gaming (home & arcade) since the early days of PONG.

I'm 21. Fell head over heels for the Atari. Became even mor ehardcore when I got an SMS and never looked back.

26, the Sega Master system really got me hooked on gaming.

I'm 16, been playing ever since I was 2 years old. I even have myself on video beating my dad and grandfather at games. They were floored at how good I was. They still are ^_^. And yes, I will never, EVER stop gaming.

I don't like many pre-NES games because they've all been done better since, and because I wasn't around for them, there is no nostalgia effect. I still appreciate older games for what they've done though

Had a Atari 2600. I remember playing pitfall and Dig Dug the most. Anyone remember the name of the game with all of those tank/airplane games on it? I think pong was on there too. I remember Super Mario Bros. when it was new too. Played the hell out of that. Remember when The Wizard came out just before SMB 3? I wanted to see it just to see SMB 3 early. I loved that movie (I also remember thee article in Nintendo Power about it).

The first game I remember playing was an arcade shooter of some sort (I want to say Space Invaders, or some such) when I was three or four. My Dad co-owned a vending business with his brothers, and to keep me busy he'd open up one of the cabs and pump up the credit button.

First console was an Atari VCS (the original name for the 2600 from about 1978 to 1982, if I'm not mistaken).

18, my first major gaming experience was Pole Position on the Atari 2600 with the trackball. Heaven on Earth my friends, heaven on Earth. I also have fond memories of E.T., I realized crap when I saw it, even then.

15 and I'll be 16 in 7 days.

My earliest gaming memories come from long hours playing my cousin's baby-sized NES collection consisting of Contra, RC Pro Am, Double Dribble, and Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. Also beating the shit out of much older people in Street Fighter 2 at the arcades and playing TMNT at the super old school (Ok maybe not that old school :D) Showbiz Pizza (AKA Chuck E Cheeze) comes to mind.......

I think you meant a pattle controller, for Pole Position. I'm so old, I was playing Pinball at 5, and then came along Space Invaders. My parents bought an Atari VCS, thinking they would keep me out of the arcades, but Combat just was'nt enough.

20. Woo hoo. Been playing games as far back as I can remember. Atari 2600 being the first thing I can remember off hand and been loving it all since, so much I decided to make them myself.

It was probably the Atari 5200. It had a trackball available for the console. I don't recall ever seeing one for the VCS/2600.

Actually there is a third-party trackball for the 2600 by Wico, I think. I have no clue what games support it.

But it is more likely that Jay was playing a 5200.

i'm 22. First game i played was Pacman on Atari 800. By the time NES was out my parents had already refused to buy any more video games because they blamed them for my brother's poor grades. I had to play NES on a system my brother smuggled in and hid in the attic with a tiny 13 inch tv.

I started playing around 2 or 3 with Atari 2600. There was this game I loved called No Escape I think. And Adventure, Riddle of the Sphinx, Dragonfire, Pitfall, Space Invaders, Spiderman, Donkey Kong... hmmm... Fast Food I think was a game I liked.... Coconuts... Hard to remember the names... Firefighter....

29. My first game was either Space Invaders at the movie theater or Pac Man at Valu-King. My aunt had Pong previous to that but I wasn't allowed to play because I was too little(her husband is an asswipe to this day). My homies all got Ataris when it came out so I played whatever was playing at their houses. One thing I especially loved in my earlier gaming years was playing Parsec on the TI-99. That game was on a cassette tape and is the first vertical shooter I rememeber. My mom got me and my brother a NES in 86 I think and we just kind of went from there. My enthusiasm for gaming will no doubt continue to wax and wane as it has from day one.

I can remember playing Atari 2600 and Intellivision when I was 3-5 years old, can't remember which came first in the househould. My dad was somewhat of a gamer at the time, now he just plays golf. ;)

Asteroids, Pitfall, Adventure, and strangely enough, Black Jack for the Intellivision dominate my early gaming memories.

My mom tells me I've been playing games since I was 2, which would make it an even 20 years I've been doing this. She says I was still in diapers (I guess pull-ups technically if they existed back then) when I'd stand on stools at arcades playing Pac-Man :)

I'm 30. I've loved games since I was a little kid. Thankfully, I'm not married nor do I have any kids, so I have plenty of money to spend on gaming. Not an infinite amount, however- I DO have a girlfriend, and you know what a drain on the wallet they can be...! ;) I think the first game I've played was Pac-man in the arcades, and my first system owned was an Atari 2600. I then had a Commodore 64. Then I stopped buying consoles for a while, and just wandered around, looking for new and interesting arcades. Ah, I miss those days...anyway, I went and bought a SNES, and got hooked on consoles again, and arcades started sucking, so now I own a PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, and a GBA. And soon probably a Gamecube. I'll game until my dying days. :)

Well I am 26 years old, the first game I played ever would have to be Donkey Kong while the first console I owned was the Atari 2600 :)

I can't remember what the first games I played were. But they were on the 2600. Most likely Combat, since that came with the system. Or Breakout.

Games that got me hooked were Galaga, Megamania, Pitfal, H.E.R.O.

I didn't really think games were a big part of my life until college... when I changed my major to computer science so that I could end up making video games.

Well, I started gaming relatively late, around 1986 or so, since we didnt have any game consoles or PC at that time in Russia :( My gaming experience started when my brother brought a pc from work, and I spent all summer enjoying great games like Montezuma Revenge, Moon Patrol, Aztec and others :)

I also found out MSX system at that time, thus meeting Metal Gear and Castlevanie series for the first time :)

Also Commodore 64 gaming was done before I moved to US.

My first US systems I played were little bit of NES and Genny :)

I'm 20. I started playing games when my parents bought an Atari 2600. Pac Man Jr, and Combat were what I would play the most. I also would go to my Aunt's house and play Smurfs and Mr. Do on Colecovision.

36. I first played a stand-up "Pong" machine in October 1973. The rest is history. Pathetic history perhaps, but history nonetheless.

I'm 23. I have no idea what the first game I played was, but if someone put a gun to my head I'd guess arcade Ms. Pac-Man. My first console was a 5200.

I was lucky enough to be born in Peru, where technology lags by a few years. This means I was lucky enough to start at the beginning, with a wood-panelled Pong box that hooked up to the TV's antennae with two small prongs. From there, I moved on to the Odyssey and the Atari. When I came to the States in 1986, I received a gray-Zapper-packed-in NES, and the rest is history.

I have a picture of that 1986 Xmas; what a great day. Among the NES, for those that care, were assorted Ghostbusters action figures, including Ecto II. Rock!

Fast food was an Atari arcade classic, and someone tried to tell you it was Burgertime, but it was probably Food Fight. The game you call Coconuts, is probably Congo Bongo. It had a gorilla that would throw coconuts down the screen, as you advanced to the top.

I'm 24 and am married so that basically limits my gaming to must-have titles--though thankfully my wife is a gamer herself so it's easier to purchase certain games than others--if it's a puzzler or good 3-D fighter (she doesn't really like 2-D ones) or old-school 2-D platformer then I can get it, otherwise it takes some manuevering (though I still usually end of getting it...)

My first gaming was the 2600 w/all the essentials--Pac Man, Combat, Air to Sea Battle, Haunted House, Frogs and Flies...after that it was NES and Double Dragon and Contra among others--everyone on my block had these games--it was like owning the coolest shoes, etc...if you didn't have these games, you weren't in...

I have my own business, my own home, and I have a live in girl friend who I'm helping put thru medical school, but I still have enough extra money to spend on games so it's all good. :)

I don't know what age I was when I started gaming, but I remember playing on an old wood panel pong machine, playing a ton of colecovision, and more than enough 2600.

To this day I still have fond memories of competing for scores in River Raid and Sea Quest with my Mom, and watching my brother get the "hidden developer room" in Adventure...
