LOL awesome.
So, my guess is the first patch will take out equipment jumping, which allows you to essentially double jump. Incredibly easy to do too, all you have to do is look down, deploy a flare/radar jammer/power drainer/trip mine, and jump off of it.
That's how some of the skulls are found so why would they take them out?
None of the skulls are found doing that. Considering I had no idea that was possible and I got all of the skulls.
I used a grenade to get one skull and the power drain to get two others.
You didn't have to though.
You mean to tell me you figured out that you could use equipment to double jump on your own? That's almost . Even if jumping on a buddy's head or grenade jumping would be a lot simpler.
I got many of the skulls on my own since my connection was being shit at the time.
And I thought it was normal. Oh well. Still don't think it's that big a deal.
It's a big deal because it allows you to get into places that were previously inaccessible. Which, especially when combined with some of the "regular" trick jumps, can mean either a great vantage point, or a gay hiding spot.

Sexy time.Quote:
Team Hardcore is a playlist that members of the community crave like a pregnant woman craves pickles and peanut butter. And sooner than later, it will be making its way back to Halo 3. Exactly what "Team Hardcore" means, we're still sorting out, but it will likely resemble the Team Hardcore that folks became pretty familiar with in Halo 2 with some tweaks made for the Halo 3 environment. There's a handy thread where we're checking out your thoughts on what makes something Hardcore, here.
In addition to being excited for Hardcore, the other changes coming to the Playlists in that DLC timeframe have me pretty stoked to continue my desperate quest for Level 45. But per Tyson's request -- mum is the word and tight are the lips, for now.
The Bungie Weekly Update hinted that some interesting news is going to be revealed Monday. It will most likely be the first details regarding the Halo 3 DLC. Either that or the Peter Jackson Halo project.
Team Hardcore is much better news than any DLC could be.
Ok, that is pretty cool. You win. :p Even though most of them are probably only going to be playable on BTB.
Actually, Bungie acknowledged that there needs to be more symmetrical, small maps.
They stated as much in interviews before release. Just look at the end product. However, I don't mind having only a few 4v4 size maps as long as they are quality. A new Lockout or Midship would be absolutely fantastic, but if they are at least as good as Guardian, Epitaph, or The Pit I would be happy. A possible unfortunate side effect of Forge is the map designers getting lazy. I mean, that new map that's supposed to be completely customizable in Forge sounds cool, but it's probably just lazy.
Well, it's only one map (for now), and I think some Halo fans would scream at Bungie if they didn't create at least one "canvas map". Nonetheless, I hope the new maps are great and that Bungie reconsiders remaking some of the fan favorite older maps (like a real Lockout upgrade).
IBTN, it would be ridiculous and easy $ if they would just re-release the best maps from Halo: CE and Halo 2.
I'd start playing again if they brought back Lock Out and Midship.
Killamanjaro is just getting really lucky in an FFA.
Somehow Joystiq revealed info about the new Bungie maps before Bungie did.
On December 11th, Bungie will sell its 'Heroic Map Pack', which contains three maps, for a ridiculous $10. I love Halo 3, but that's a fucking rip-off! Hell, we got four Gears of War maps for $10 (although that was a rip off too).
I'll start playing again when this comes out; if only for the one with the Satellites.
Considering that there are at least 2 absolutely viable alternatives for console FPS, to say nothing of PC stuff, I'll definitely be waiting for the $0 day.
If Microsoft comes to their senses and sell the three maps for $5, I'll reconsider. Otherwise, I'll wait until they become free.
The Gears maps are trash. I will wait for impressions on this pack, and if the maps are quality, I will have no problem paying $10. After all, I've spent $10 on worse (Hidden Fronts Map Pack for example).
Of course, after reading the descriptions, this is a likely pass.
I'll most likely buy these day 1. It'll give me some inspiration to get into Halo again.
Foundry could be amazing. Of course, that's all dependent on what the community does. Rat's Nest? Uh... I'll just play Rocket Race instead.
I'm with Brand.
Nothing makes me want to play Halo 3, but maybe these new maps will spark some interest again.
I do have the temptation to play some more Halo. But with my lack of available time and CoD4, plus Mario Galaxy now (THANKS OPAQUE!) it's almost impossible for me to put in to play.
I would have kept playing it if TF2 and then CoD4 hadn't happened.
In fact what I'm really waiting for is more TF2 maps.
That would be cool too.
I haven't been playing Halo all that much lately, but it's not at fault of owning other awesome games like you guys. My wrists are a little messed up. No more 3 hours of Halo for me, haha.
Funk yeah!
I only played 1 match of TF2. I did pretty well running around killing people. Good times.
Here's a post I wrote in the Bungie forums regarding the new map pack.
Honestly, it's a shrewd business move for Microsoft to offer so few maps at that price, because, as evident in the Bungie forums, there are people who are more than willing to pay $10 for three maps.Quote:
Here's a cost rundown of previous Halo 2 downloadable maps.
Bonus Map Pack - Containment and Warlock - Free
Killtacular Map Pack - Sanctuary and Turf - $6
Maptacular Map Pack - Gemini, Relic, Elongation, Terminal, and Backwash - $12
A Little Too Late There, Buddy Pack - Tombstone and Desolation - $4
Personally, I feel that $10 is too much for three maps. There's not enough value there for $10. Gears of War had four maps for $10 (although even then I felt that the price was too high). You can get a full XBLA game, Exit, for $10 (yes it's a PSP port, but it's a big game). If it were up to me, I'd offer the three maps for $5. I don't mind paying for additional content, but I do believe in paying a fair price and not one that almost seems like price-gouging.
There is a simple solution to this. If you truly feel that $10 is too much for three maps, DO NOT BUY THEM. Resist the urge of succumbing to peer pressure and stand your ground. You can do all the complaining you want in the Bungie forum, but the only way you'll convince Microsoft to lower the price of these maps is to not buy them.
When the maps will become free next year and Bungie offers the next set of maps, they'll look at how many people bought the first pack. If the numbers are low, then Bungie and Microsoft will realize that they overcharged their first pack and will offer the second pack at a lower price. However, if people still buy the first pack in droves, then expect more 3 for $10 packs in the future. It's free market principles at its finest, and the future of Bungie map pricing schemes is up to you.
Where do you stand?
The issue next year is if there were enough people who felt that $10 was a fair price. Why offer six maps for $10 when you get away with selling three at that price?
I do hope that not many people buy the 3 for $10 pack though.
10 for 3 is way too much money.
$10 would be a great price for Lockout, Midship, and maybe Prisoner. Probably not so much for this shit though.
I would pay $10 for 3 more TF2 maps. Halo 3? Who the fuck plays that anymore?
What I don't get is why they didn't go the 'free sponsored download' route, like the first Gears pack. It's not like it's a challenge to find a company willing to associate their name with Halo.
rape dollars
Those are the best kind of dollars.
I'd pay a lot for a Lockout or Coag remake (yes I still want bloodgulch/coag a third time). H3 lacks a big flat map for good vehicle use. Tanks don't work on Valhala.
Well, I expect that that's exactly what Rat's Nest is going to be.
You have to add us.
This game needs to allow you to search for specific game types. All i like to play in Halo is CTF. What happens when im lucky enough to see a CTF in matchmaking? Instant veto by everyone else. I dont want to play a game for 2 hours hoping to get a CTF game. Oh and does anyone out there like VIP? The gamemode is trash.
Needs a CTF playlist badly.
Vip does suck. I like CTF only if its multiflag. I cant stand the gametypes that one team is offensive and the other is defense. Everything should be neutral.
Well the only way to make it truly neutral is to have the bases swap between teams after each round, so I have no problem with 1 flag.
The new maps are up. Who's in?
Really?
God, I can't even muster giving a shit when there's new maps. Maybe later today.
I was pretty excited until I saw they cost 10 dollars. I guess I haven't been keeping up, but that's pretty awful.
For the love of all things xbox, don't buy them.
No one in TNL is buying them (except maybe Morphix), so you won't be able to try them out with the cool people. 3 maps for $10 is a gigantic rip-off, and if a lot of people DON'T buy them, it sends a message to Microsoft that they shouldn't charge so much when they release the next map pack in 2008.
Call of Duty 4 will keep me distracted until these maps become free.
It's not even the money, it's I just don't care about Halo 3.
Side note, we should play CoD4 today.
I dunno, I'm pretty jazzed at the possibilities of that Forge map.
But if no one else here's getting the maps, I guess I'll wait it out.
Fuck paying for maps at all.
TNL sour on Halo 3??
I wish Bungie would just write netcode and filesharing/replay software for use in other companies' games. Somehow.
No map pack for me pls.
seriously replays are fantastic.
About CoD4 being class based: It really isn't buuuut with the perks it SORT of is. I mean, you can have guys with extra health and special things like claymores, etc...and different guns change your movement speed as well. So it seriously borders on classes.
I mean, if you hook up the perks properly, a "Sniper" class will look nothing like an "Assault" class.
Yeah...no maps yet. Going to try and hold for the freeness.
I...I had points to spare.
I bought the map pack.
You asshole.
I don't even know why I bought them. I'm in the middle of Mass Effect, and most of my buddies are either playing COD4 or Forza 2.
The maps are decent, though. I'm liking Rat's Nest the best.
I know! I blame a lack of quality XBL Arcade titles lately for my surplus of points.
Buy Rock Band and get the songs!
It's...too late for me, dave. The points are gone.
There's no erasing the mistake I have made. All I can do is prevent more mistakes from happening.
I suppose that's the least I can do.
There's no ladders or bottomless pits you can add, though, so some of those maps might be tricky to pull off.
Of course not. But it's only on the character models with capes.
Well there was the cape along with being able to shoot them in the damn boot to down them.
Yes, an active reload sniper shot to the foot will down the character models with capes, as well as Raam. But the other character models are fine.
I was pretty sure it was with anything to the boots. Fun game and it takes a crack shot to hit the boots, but the early bugs just totally ruined it for me.
I shouldn't be such a dick.
No. You can shoot the feet on any character model and do damage. The problem with the caped models (and Raam) is that in addition to the cape flapping around being obvious, you can shoot between the character's legs and do damage since it will catch on the cape. Also, for most character models, an active reload sniper will down a guy in one hit only if it is above the waist; for the caped/Raam models an active reload sniper will down if it connects anywhere. It doesn't take a "crack shot" to hit the boots, that's the stupidest fucking place you could aim for unless that's the only thing showing.
Sorry I didn't respond to the congrats. Thanks, I really appreciate it.
In the latest Bungie update, this was revealed.
If #2 means the return of Lockout, Midship, Turf, and some Halo 1 maps, I'll be happy.Quote:
We’re playing the next batch of DLC. This first trio has been very well received. Eventually your Halo experience will be so swollen and engorged that you’ll have a hard time even remembering what the original map selection was. In the future, we’ll be bringing you more fully custom built maps and they may include one or more of the following:
· Symmetrical arena maps for competitive play.
· Returning classics demanded by the fans.
· Crazy new stuff you never expected.
· Unusual maps with lots of potential for interesting game types.
· Graphically spectacular settings.
· More Forge objects to use on new maps.
· Surprises.
If #1 means maps that don't suck, I'll be happy.
Here's an awesome suicide video involving the Spartan Laser.
I want Coooooooooooag back. I miss epic BTB with tank capabilities and shit. Valhalla doesn't compare. I've been playing it a lot but it's not big enough.
Also, Spartan Laser suicides are surprisingly common. I've gotten them many times on Snowbound since I don't watch if I'm through the energy doors all the way or not. Oops.
I want (need) Battle Creek in H3. Does that update mean more than 3 maps in the next pack?
Midship is being remade is my guess, at least from what they have said. Maybe Sidewinder too. Coag seems to obvious of a remake, but I hope I'm wrong.
Fuck it, they need to just replace the entire Halo 3 map line up (except High Ground) with all of the maps from 1 and 2. That would get me to play this game regularly again.
