I've been a non-smoker for almost 6 years now but I quit the hard way; no drinking alcohol, staying out of convience stores, staying out of my social loop which included smoking and drinking for a good 6 months.
I always hear about the pill and wonder the long term success rate. A friend of mine is going on it now. My mother failed on it (j/k's please) but I've heard of people having good luck with it.

I've been quit now for about a year and 5 months. I did the same thing, Changeling, quit cold turkey, and had to stay away from going out for a little while. I definitely gained a bit of weight over the first 10 or so months of being quit, but have managed to shed all that now.
I'm pretty happy to be non smoking, but this time of the year is when I really feel nostalgic about it. Hot days, going to a bar, getting a beer, sitting outside in the backyard and drinking and smoking.
It's weird, and people always tease me about saying this, but I'll say it here anyways: Since quitting smoking, I have a small little void inside me that I haven't been able to fill with anything yet. I was hoping working out would fill it, but nothing can quite hit that spot

I quit with Chantix - November 2007. Haven't smoked since.

I quit six and a half months ago. It was probably my third serious attempt to quit in as many years.
Since the first two times were cold turkey, I figured I'd try the patch. For whatever reason, my cravings were much, much worse with the patch than they were without it. So I only wore it for three days, then went cold turkey again.
So far, so good. I still get cravings here and there. For the first four months, I wanted one every day. Actually, in month four I grabbed a smoke from my friend. I used to smoke Marlboro red. He smokes Marlboro ultra lights. I took one drag and about coughed up a lung. Since then I haven't had cravings quite so much.

I'm proud of anyone who ends up quitting, it's definetly not easy. My parents have tried like 9 times since I was born, and even after quadruple bypass surgery my dad still only quit for 2 months. I hope to quit someday, but it ain't in the cards right now.

I know people give smokers shit about putting quitting off and shit, but you really do need to be in the right mindset and WANT to quit. Otherwise, it will never stick.

It took me a couple times before I was actually serious about quitting. Definitely don't give up. You really just need to be fed up with the habit to the point that you hate it and what it does to you. You need to become an anti-smoking Nazi for a while. I annoyed the shit out of my smoker friends, but I eventually eased off on it.
Its nice to hear that some of you have had success with the pill.

I quit however the fuck long ago, started back up for a bit when I had to put my dog down, then quit again. Sometimes it is hard, sometimes it isn't.

First post says 10/17/07.
Never forget.

When I'm out drinking, I get the urge to smoke, mostly because I still get that nicotine buzz (some of my friends say they don't get that anymore). And whenever this happens, a voice in my head says "Oh no... they got me."
That, and whenever I am super stressed out. I am able to resist the later, though.
