I'm a month away from being smoke-free for a year. I think if you smoke, time somehow goes by slower...
Almost a year.Quote:

In other news, I think I'm addicted to internet porn... no joke. The only difference between porn and cigarettes is that I'm taking time off of my life in the present, instead of in the future, and instead of wasting my money on cigarettes, I waste my motivation to pick up women. I could honestly go on a lot more about this, but it's somewhat embarrassing. Oh well, 8 days and going strong!
I've been trying to cut back my weed intake. I noticed that I started using it to escape my life (when I'm blazed my only concern is where my next meal is... and the one after that) so I figured I should cut back. Plus I've been wasting valuable hours sitting around with friends when I could be practicing instruments or doing something productive. It's tough to go from multiple times a day to once every couple of days. I also started noticing that when I first get high, everything is awesome like always, but an hour later I'm hating myself for it. Kind of like internet porn.
I used to have an occasional social cigarette when I was drinking or when people invited me to have a smoke. After a while I realized it was retarded even to smoke one cigarette a week so I stopped all together. Some buddies I hang out with occasionally do roll joints, so they are the only form of tobacco I've smoked in probably close to a year, and while I do think it's a waste to roll a joint with tobacco, it does give me a neat ohmygod-i-think-i-might-puke head rush.
I replaced cigarettes with pot for a while. I carried a one hitter around. Then I loaned it to Doc Holiday, and I think Destin's mom has it now.
Anyway. I quit smoking pot, and I'm pretty sure this doesn't answer a single one of your questions.
I haven't smoked for like 3 months now.
What if the Phillies lose game 7?
Sorry Josh. She wouldn't have sex with me for free...
WHOOP WHOOP! (forgot about this until just now)

It's like an itch I can't scratch today. Over two weeks in. I've been drinking today and it's hard as a motherfucker to keep from it. Just gotta remember that I can't quit quitting.
Drinking makes quitting everything terrible. Maybe we should just all quit drinking?
To hell with that!
My biggest motivator was saving money. Seriously. After you save 60 bucks buy a new game and feel good about it.
At the rate I was smoking, I'd be buying games every 10 days. To hell with that.
Use the money to buy better beer. win/win
I'm curious how everyone is doing with their (hopefully) non-smoking lives. Has Chantix helped you in the long term? Update please.
GF tells me all about Chantix as she has to know about it cause of her job. It can help you quit smoking for good. It does work. There is a black box warning on it though. Worth a shot imo though have a good talk with your doctor about potential side effects, especially if you've had a history of depression or whatever.
I've been a non-smoker for almost 6 years now but I quit the hard way; no drinking alcohol, staying out of convience stores, staying out of my social loop which included smoking and drinking for a good 6 months.
I always hear about the pill and wonder the long term success rate. A friend of mine is going on it now. My mother failed on it (j/k's please) but I've heard of people having good luck with it.
I've been quit now for about a year and 5 months. I did the same thing, Changeling, quit cold turkey, and had to stay away from going out for a little while. I definitely gained a bit of weight over the first 10 or so months of being quit, but have managed to shed all that now.
I'm pretty happy to be non smoking, but this time of the year is when I really feel nostalgic about it. Hot days, going to a bar, getting a beer, sitting outside in the backyard and drinking and smoking.
It's weird, and people always tease me about saying this, but I'll say it here anyways: Since quitting smoking, I have a small little void inside me that I haven't been able to fill with anything yet. I was hoping working out would fill it, but nothing can quite hit that spot
I quit with Chantix - November 2007. Haven't smoked since.
I quit six and a half months ago. It was probably my third serious attempt to quit in as many years.
Since the first two times were cold turkey, I figured I'd try the patch. For whatever reason, my cravings were much, much worse with the patch than they were without it. So I only wore it for three days, then went cold turkey again.
So far, so good. I still get cravings here and there. For the first four months, I wanted one every day. Actually, in month four I grabbed a smoke from my friend. I used to smoke Marlboro red. He smokes Marlboro ultra lights. I took one drag and about coughed up a lung. Since then I haven't had cravings quite so much.
I'm proud of anyone who ends up quitting, it's definetly not easy. My parents have tried like 9 times since I was born, and even after quadruple bypass surgery my dad still only quit for 2 months. I hope to quit someday, but it ain't in the cards right now.
I know people give smokers shit about putting quitting off and shit, but you really do need to be in the right mindset and WANT to quit. Otherwise, it will never stick.
It took me a couple times before I was actually serious about quitting. Definitely don't give up. You really just need to be fed up with the habit to the point that you hate it and what it does to you. You need to become an anti-smoking Nazi for a while. I annoyed the shit out of my smoker friends, but I eventually eased off on it.
Its nice to hear that some of you have had success with the pill.
I quit however the fuck long ago, started back up for a bit when I had to put my dog down, then quit again. Sometimes it is hard, sometimes it isn't.
First post says 10/17/07.
Never forget.
When I'm out drinking, I get the urge to smoke, mostly because I still get that nicotine buzz (some of my friends say they don't get that anymore). And whenever this happens, a voice in my head says "Oh no... they got me."
That, and whenever I am super stressed out. I am able to resist the later, though.
The warnings on the Chantix commercials are pretty freaky, anyone here that took the drug ever have suicidal thoughts while on it (that were abnormal--if you're always suicidal I don't wanna hear about it). A relative of mine killed himself a while back and he was supposedly on Chantix. Perhaps coincidence, but it certainly makes the commercial warnings seem a lot more real than other disclaimers.
Except Olestra, that shit really did give you runny butt.
He would have killed himself anyway.
It is illegal to advertise subscription medication over here.
Josh I hope you are still going strong.
I started today.
4 years, 1+ months and I used Chantix. Never really think about cigs other than the smell annoys me more than ever.
I'm with you Hao. Cigarette smoke is worse after you quit. I can't believe I walked around smelling like that. I didn't use anything to quit, but Chantix def has success stories. Good luck Almaci!
Just over two years for me. A customer gave me a $10 tip the other day which I refused and he said, Come on! Get yourself a pack of cigarettes. I replied, Well I'm going to need a Delorean too because I quit two years ago. Feels good. I do cheat here and there. There's been a few times that I've gone out drinking and had a smoke but I'm good with just one cig while I'm buzzing. I think I've smoked ten cigarettes in the last two years. That's pretty good compared to a pack a day.
I am 40 years old and sadly have smoked since I was like 16.
It is kinda eyeopening when your physician tells you that ifyou maintain your current lifestyle your life might already be two thirds over.
This shit needs to end.
I smoke an electric cigarette when I want to now. When I don't want to, I don't smoke anything.
Feels good, man.
Thanks for the support, hope I can join you guys soon.
Nothing worth doing is easy except for your mother.
I quit cold turkey on Thanksgiving.
Hell. Absolute hell. For at least 3 weeks. Now it just royally sucks.
That means you're starting to actually be able to taste again. Marvel at the world, like a child.
That's the best part. I don't get how so many chefs are heavy smokers.
White cloud. Cadillac of the sky.
How does the charge last on those things? The e-cig that I had seemed like it died relatively easy.
Different models last different times. I carry two batteries with me and I've never once had an issue.
Stop date aproaching fast, 12 and a half hours left.
Best of luck, Almaci.
Thanks man
Don't be a pussy about it! Good luck.
You got this Almaci. Only a nancy can't quit cigarettes!
I'm officially over the 4 year (and a week) mark without a cigarette, best decision I ever made.Quote:

Weak I am, need to get over this ASAP.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do it.
Study came out in the Times today saying the nicotine patch and gum don't do shit to help you quit.
Placebos are still useful. Ritual used to focus intent, things like that.
Just stop it. You're flushing money away. Chew gum or nipples.
I had the white cloud, but the cartridges are super expensive.
I just decided I wanted to start smoking again, so I bought the zero carts and a V2 brand one. Cheap, and you can drip.
Feels better, man.
How are the zero carts? I've been considering it. I truly believe I'm more hooked on the ritual aspect of it than the nicotine.
Like a pussy soaked in apple juice.
I probably take 10 puffs a day and it feels delightful.
It's the same with doctors.
You're thinking of morphine addiction.
Almost 24 hours now, nicotine withdrawal is a bitch.
Hang in there. it's only going to get worse.
http://www.v2cigs.com/
Get the one with the manual button. You can take bigger puffs.
Almost 48 hours clean now.
How much does chantix cost in the US?
You can do it without Chantax. If I can quit cold turkey, and Josh could quit in general, there's no reason anyone else can't do the same. It's not easy, but anyone who has quit knows exactly what you're going through, and I promise you the feelings you are having will pass. For what it's worth, what really helped me was hedging the cravings with something else. I ended up using toothpicks and straws and they really helped with the cravings since they occupied my mind while it was trying to think of cigarettes.
Don't be a fucking pussy.
There's no reason to smoke past the age of 25.
My favourite dates are arbitrary.
:(
They really are.
Edit, gonna start a new thread about this.
It's not the knives that make the chef.
I weened myself off cigarettes last year, and I am trying to do the same this year, but I get so god damn hungry!
I've drastically reduced my numbers, 1 or 2 a day. I am trying to get off the stuff so my lungs can repair and recover in whatever way possible now, i need my cardiovascular back. We will be playing basketball and its not my muscles tiring out or soreness, its the fact my lungs will burn like crazy and ill be spitting up like crazy.
I have gone back and forth on if i should get nicorette or something else
I wonder if you should get the thing that helped a lot of us quit. If only I could remember what it was called.
cocks?

p.s. Every time I see this thread I think Chantax: The Forever Man.
Been a little over 4 years.
The right movie or song comes on, i want to go buy a pack so bad.
People who talk shit about PSH obviously never smoked.
The addiction never ends.
I've been a non-smoker for 10 years now. Haven't thought about how long it's been till now.
Smoking still. Quit for about a year, then restaurant, then bankruptcy. Soon again.
I mostly just chew on cigarettes. I wish I could stop, the grit is intolerable.
I don't even know how people start smoking. It's not a slight on anyone, I just seriously do not understand it.
Well, I do understand it, but the cons totally outweigh the pros it's not even close. I like cheesecake. I know it isn't good for you but every once in a while it doesn't hurt, plus it tastes amazing. I don't see smoking being that way.
Someone needs more noir in his life.
It's because cigarettes WORK. The chemicals in them do exactly as advertised, and that's how they hook ya.
Immediate benefits usually trump eventual consequences.
Hard to say if you never smoked. It exactly that way - if people could smoke one cigarette once in a while. I enjoy the occasional cigarette when I'm blackout drunk but it doesn't fit into my lifestyle anymore. I have the same reaction you do to people that eat packaged foods, soda, go tanning.
I quit for a long time, went back to it the day I had to put my dog down, ran with it for a year, got an ecigarette, haven't even thought about cigarettes except for "get upwind"
I know it's trading one addiction for another, but whatever. That's what people do.
I traded it for obsessive weight lifting the first time around btw.
Josh be swole
I was! It was pretty silly.
I'm getting there again too. Back up from my sick weight of 145 to 165-170, and finally able to lift after two years not being able to.
