Cleaning LCD screens: HDTV & PC

I have done some web surfing to try and find answers as to what is the best way to clean an LCD screen. Most websites say to use a 50/50 isopropyl and water mix or to use a commercial product which basically contains the same ingredients. All the sites say to use a soft cotton or microfiber with the mix

I have just used a damp cotton cloth and a small amount of water to clean my laptop screen and it has worked fine. A person at best buy said that just using regular water could eventually cause problems because it doesn't evaporate fast enough.

My concern is that my manual that came with my hdtv says to only use a soft dry cotton cloth to clean it but that doesn't get it as clean as I would like it. I am guessing they said that to cover themselves from someone using windex but I am still concerned about using anything on it.

Does anyone else have a similar caution in their manual? If so, did you use any other method to clean it? Any recommendations on best methods to clean it or good products would be appreciated.

Unless your screen is glossy (like my PC monitor) then a little Monitor Wipes dispenser is perfect for LCD TV's and most flat panel monitors. A bin of 80 wipes will run you 8-9 bucks.

For glossy screens your method is fine. More alchohol = less streaking.

I hear Monster makes the best LCD cleaner, but I use Klear Screen and it's been pretty good to me. You just have to make sure that you buff it out until it's all dried up, otherwise there will be streak marks. I don't know about the alcohol thing, I always heard that that would eat away at the coating.

I finally used a cleaner on my cherished monitor, and the result was very good. I recommend the CleanDr. kit with the cloth, but be careful to hold the edge of the microfiber cloth (which is a little rough), away from the more delicate screens. That goes for any similar cloth, not just this one.

I use a damp cloth. I'm not fancy.

I use water and a paper towel.

The monster spray was recommended to me by the salesman at best buy, but they always recommend monster as default. I checked some user opinions for the product at circuit city and they all seem to be positive, so I will most likely go with that.

Hah, yeah of course they always recommend Monster. My roommate's got a bottle of it though, doesn't seem too shabby. It's kinda pricey at $20 but it's a really big bottle.

I wouldn't buy anything Monster out of principle. You know if they charge $20 for it it's worth maybe $2.

My brother works at a LAN gaming cafe and they just use a soft cotton cloth and a small amount of water/windex.
