Downloadable content is going to be a big fucking problem in the next year or two.
Look at Idolmaster to see why.
Downloadable content is going to be someone else's problem. I've got enough other things going on that passing on a game isn't really an issue. I can deal with it in Rock Band, but if a game is marginal, like Pain, then walking away isn't going to cause me to lose sleep.
They'll release it in a pack with everything soon enough, and if I still care I'll buy it then.
James
It's not going to be someone else's problem. You may not be running into it much now, but it's going to get worse and worse in the near future, with developers deliberately leaving finished shit out of games to sell right away as downloadable content (I'm looking at you Katamari).
It's going to start happening with more and more games because it's an easy way to get money out of people because too many people are stupid enough to buy and support that bullshit (I'm looking at you Opaque and Korly).
i am scared of that too, itll be a sad day in gaming when the $60 discs are mere "starter packs"
:yuck:
It's true. That thread I started on GameFAQs about the DLC in Beautiful Katamari is still going. It's seriously sickening how ready some people are to defend Namco with this bullshit. And then there's just as many who recognize it as deceitful, but say, "Eh, it's only a few bucks, and I want the achievement points," and shell out anyway.
The whole thing is maddening.
Wait, people are arguing that it's not DLC because it was already on the disc? So paying to unlock something off a game you bought is better?
FUCK
I hate people.
Also once again, fuck everyone on this board who bought the Katamari DLC bullshit.
When SFIV ends up having you pay for DLC to unlock half the characters I'm going to blame all of you.
I actually regret buying the Katamari download content. I was planning on playing the levels I downloaded, but haven't had time and don't see it happening any time soon. I let affection for the game get in the way of practical considerations such as "Will I ever acutally use this?" Kind of like the Crackdown DLC, now that I think on it.
James
Well, the Crackdown DLC added quite a bit of stuff to the game. It wasn't just a cash run using already completed assets. It's up there with the later Oblivion downloads as the best DLC out there.
I do agree that a lot of DLC is total bullshit, though. It's partly fulfilling that horrible dream of Sony's where the games are locked to the console. Though that didn't come to pass, DLC lets half the game's content be locked to a console.
