TNL Legends - October 2007 Inductees
The second group of TNL Legends awaits you below. Again, these are people that have made TNL a memorable, fun, and informative place over the long haul and are an important part of the history of this community. If you're wondering why that special someone (yourself, perhaps?) hasn't been listed yet, please remember that this is not a ranking. I'm saving some of the best posters for future lists to keep things interesting.
The first twenty members can be found in the original TNL Legends thread. As before, I have put each inductee's names in spoiler tags to give you a chance to read the description and take a guess.
All Legends from the first two groups will be entered into a drawing to be held November 1, 2007, for a copy of Rock Band on the winner's choice of the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PlayStation 2. If I am unsuccessful in my attempts to contact the winner by November 15, 2007, the prize will go to the first runner-up I can find.
Please stand and recognize the class of Fall 2007:
For a while, it looked like Diff-chan was the living embodiment of the community. As TNL began to mature and get more jaded, he was at the forefront. When TNL began to post for posting's sake even more and cries of "Mortal Kombat!" and "Your mom" congested each page, he was a general of the movement. But at some point he began to become a parody of himself, and that may be the reason he no longer posts on the boards - at least under his old name(s). Perhaps this intelligent and perceptive poster will return to his rightful place near the top of the TNL food chain one day. That is, if your mom ever let's him.
Jeremy is a very enthusiastic and informed poster that is best know for his encyclopedic knowledge of professional wrestling, his eye condition, and his dense video game reviews that have seemed to collapse in on themselves at times. He single-handedly fought and arguably won an extended war with many of the most ruthless and powerful forces in the community and deserves much respect for that. If you haven't been owned by Teh Master Plan, chances are you haven't been posting here long or just don't matter.
The Next Level has a lot of well-educated contributors, but Melf is not only a school teacher with a great love for and a deep knowledge of games, he is one hell of a nice guy. Interestingly, Nick has failed to deliver on promises to him at least twice since the GameGo days, but that has nothing to do with this induction. Ask around and you will see that this father of two and lover of 16-bit classics is a TNL Legend through and through.
As a musical talent and an amazing shoot-'em-up player, Mode7 turned a lot of heads at GameGO and The Next Level. He was a far cry from the braggarts that usually frequent video gaming boards and was a respected TNLer and the measuring stick for twitch gamers until his sudden disappearance.
Nick once called Mzo the beating heart of TNL, or some such thing. He embodies the ideal middle-of-the-road TNL poster in that he can be funny or informative, the butt of jokes or the perpetrator, a little bit of everything that makes this place so fun to post at month after month. Sure he looks like a pudgy Harry Potter, has a real-life name that makes you picture Chico Marx when you hear it, and has a mother with a promiscuous reputation, but he is at the core of why we love to spend countless hours here.
Reno is an amazing gamer who's won multiple E3 tournaments and even took home an official Soul Edge (sword) as a prize. For many years, he and bahn were largely holding together TNL's editorial and public relations efforts. Reno left TNL for good in the great falling out of 2004 and even snubbed Nick at E3 that year. Though he is a funny and outgoing guy, this workaholic is also living proof that "The Internet is serious business."
Judging by his critically acclaimed comic art and his insightful posts, rezo has both sides of his brain turned to top speed. He has consistently excelled at both things while remaining modest and kind-of-but-not-quite in the background. Truly a role model to ribald youth everywhere!
Ever at the center of intergender fawning and intragender cattiness, Satsuki knows how to play the room. Yeah, you may question her art and her attraction to burgundy, but she's still cooler than most any other girl you'll ever meet. Especially when she sits just right.
Sqoon delivers. You wouldn't necessarily think that someone who shares a name with a pink submarine would be so reliable, but there you go. His detailed game reviews and frequent news postings helped keep the editorial side of The Next Level afloat and his opinions in the forum are well-developed and thoughtful. Like rezo, he's a relatively quiet poster that carries a lot of weight.
Along with his fellow Legend, AFX, Stibbons forms the funniest and the most divisive duo in all of TNL. Love him or hate him, he is inextricably woven into the fiber of the community - and, admit it, when he's on your side of an argument, it feels pretty good, doesn't it? Stibbons helped the site with articles, podcasts, and by straightening up the Wiki, before "leaving" the site to pursue a bigger spotlight.
