If you decide to come to Japan the Kansai area (Kyoto/Osaka/Nara) is by far the best choice IMO. There's a ton of shit to do and see there, and I do believe Strider is up in Kyoto to show you around.
But I don't know how expensive tickets from Delhi to Japan would be. Something like Thailand might be cheaper.
How hard is it for gaijin like me to get around? Keep in mind I am 6'4" and white as fuck, so I stick out. Nihongo wa wakarimasen yo.
In the big cities in Kansai you'll be fine. You'll stick out a bit, but not horribly so, and you can usually find english speakers. You may get lost here and there, but as long as you make sure to take a note of what train station you need to get to to get back to your hotel you can wander pretty freely and easily find your way back. Just make sure to get copies of all the subway and train maps right away.
It's when you get into places like Kyushu or Hokkaido that you'd run into trouble.
