Milledge does have an upside, but his value has plummeted over the past couple of years from a "can't miss" player to another problematic young player who can't hit a curve ball. I think Minaya's thinking was to take whatever he can get before the guy is completely worthless.
As a Met, he was done and I'm sure he was shopped and there wasn't much interest in him. For better or worse.
Haoh, he played rap music in the clubhouse, nothing that serious. If the guy's value is this low so that you get this garbage, you hold on to him so his stock rebounds.

The Yankees are making a big mistake by including Hughes. The Yankees and Red Sox are probably the only two teams in baseball that can meet Santana's contract demand and the Red Sox clearly aren't that serious about landing him (the Lester-Crisp offer is a joke). The Yanks need to take a hard line the way the Red Sox are on Bucholtz and Ellsbury; Santana's no-trade clause puts the Twins over a barrel. Stand pat on Kennedy, Cabrera, Horne, and maybe Tabata (though I'd prefer to keep him). In the end that's a better offer than the Red Sox will make.

If his value was low, you hold him until it isn't. There was no need to trade him BEFORE the winter meetings. Or at all. Race subliminally influences who they think is a punk. But yes, it's the only fucking reason the Mets let go of anyone. Lo Duca sucks, but that's not the reason they didn't talk to him - it's because he is outspoken. Benson for Julio and Maine worked out great for us, but it only happened because Anna couldn't shut her holes.
This team is more concerned about image than results. But they never realize that THEY HAVE NO IMAGE WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE RESULTS. Because nobody cares about a nice .500 team in New York when Johan Fucking Santana is starting across the Triboro.
I just turned on the radio while getting in the shower and according to 1050 ESPN radio in NY the Nationals are now in talks with Billy Beane about flipping Milledge and prospects for Haren. According to the report Omar got down on Milledge when the Twins made the Garza trade and announced that they no longer coveted outfielders in a trade for Santana. Did Omar forget that there are 28 other teams out there?
