I think it was. If other teams were throwing all kinds of better offers out there, then why would he take this? And why would rumored deals for other (better) players specifically NOT include him?

Whatever. I'm not calling you a racist. But the articles you're relying have been written by writers who have been beating the shit out of Milledge since he was drafted because he is too urban black hip-hop for their tastes.
If Church turns into Bedard then I will shut my mouth happily. But really, do you think the Orioles came back to Omar and said they would deal Bedard for a package that included Church but not Milledge? Because that sounds fucking ridiculous to me.
The problem with your reasoning and everyone else's is that the Mets DID NOT have to trade Milledge. What would they have lost? A catcher who can't hit and an outfielder who can't touch lefties and is league average in his prime?
If Omar didn't piss away Bannister, Bell, Ring, Lindstrom, Owens and Jesus Flores in the past 12 months alone with NOTHING to show for it, then maybe I would be a little more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this. But I do not trust his competence or the motives of the Wilpons anymore.
THIS IS KAZMIR ALL OVER AGAIN.
You're forgetting that they have two outfielders "in the system" that are more highly regarded (Gomez/Martinez) than Milledge is/was. How many outfielders can they have in the near future? And, if Milledge has a rough start or a shitty year next year, he'll be worth even less. You've got a decent RF who, if he plays everyday, will hit .280, hit 20HRs and drive in 90+ and one of the best defensive catchers in the game.
I would've liked to have gotten more, too, but it's time to move on.
I like Burg, I respect Burg's baseball knowledge. He is just blind here. The fact is Milledge isn't worth dick, and he can't accept that.
Right, it's because he's too "urban black hip-hop" and not because he shows a complete lack of respect for the game and everyone in it while cutting songs like "Bend Ya Knees" that proclaim women are only good for sucking dick and use the n-word with reckless abandon. To keep defending such shitty behavior as a "black thing" is racist on your part if anything.

Nice post Spo.
The fact is that your personality is part of a scout's report.
I think lastings goes like this (they scout out of 5 typically)
Bat Skills 2.5 Lastings has trouble with offspeed pitches and had developed a dead pull stroke at 22, this never ends up well.
Personality 1.5 Lastings will not get along with white or latin teammates, he has no concept of team play. I do not recommend trading for Milledge, the effect on our clubhouse will nullify his contributions on the field.
etc etc
Gomez is probably gone in favor of a frontline starter...unless Omar decides that Livan Hernandez is the ace he's looking for, which wouldn't surprise me.
How can you tell me I'm looking into the crystal ball and see .280 20HR for Church when he's never done that before? And when Milledge's 2007 was on pace to be almost as good as Church's, but he's 22?
If Milledge was such a monster in the clubhouse he should have been gone anytime within the past 18 months. Waiting until he's not in demand to unload him is a stupid panic move. At the very least, wait until after the meetings to make a move like this. Schneider and Church aren't going anywhere.
Church hasn't played a full season, either. So, you're saying Milledge is "almost as good as Church" last season and they got him and another player and it's a bad trade? Interesting. Your speculation/rage is based entirely on the fact that you think Milledge will get *a lot* better, hence the "crystal ball-speak".
Milledge has been "on the block" and on the proverbial trade rumor list since 2006. This isn't news and teams, obviously, weren't/aren't that interested. Just get ready to be incensed when Reyes is offered for Santana because then I'll be really pissed right along with you.
their ages make all the difference haoh
I hope the Yanks do trade Hughes for Santana. Big chance they won't come out much ahead that way just trading one ace for another (and a $150 million bill). Hell I hate to say it, but I don't think Santana is the pitcher he was 2 years ago and could keep falling.
