if it was going to take hughes i agree with the yanks. i'd keep hughes and add haren or bedard with other trade chips. thats better than santana alone. thats why the sox refuse to trade buchholtz.

Yanks are in a unique position to trade for Santana because they may be the only team willing to pay him next winter.
Then again, maybe the Yanks shouldn't trade for Santana because they may be the only team willing to pay him next winter.
I got into this debate with one of my professors today about trading Hughes for Santana. I just don't see it as a good move, making a smaller trade (not involving Hughes, Joba or Ian Kennedy preferably) for an Erik Bedard or Dan Haren might better suit the Yanks.

Huh?
Santana is the most dominant picture since Pedro, he's still young, and the fact that CC is a free agent next year will drive the market up.
If I'm the Yanks I dump Hughes, give Santana his 20 million a year and brag about saving money, because next year he's getting 25+.
So the latest Blue Jays rumor is Tim Lincecum from the San Francisco Giants for Alex Rios. I really hope this deal doesn't happen. Lincecum has one season in the majors. That just screams arm problem. Plus Rios is getting close to becoming that something special that people have projected him to be.
Bedard and Haren are going to cost about as much as Johan because they have better contract situations.
Wow, do we agree on something?
Young pitching is the one thing you can't buy in baseball. Hughes is the real deal and he's 21 years old; trading him for the right to pay Johan $150 million (he's not going to give anyone a discount) makes no sense. The Yankees need to keep Joba and Hughes while exploring trades for setup men. The word is the Yankees are talking with the Giants about trading Hideki Matsui and Shelly Duncan for Noah Lowry and a bullpen arm (Cashman's trying to turn Lowry into Cain or Lincecum by adding prospects).
So, you think Hughes will impact the Yankee's more in the next 6 seasons than Santana? That's what you're saying right?
Actually make that 8-10 years.
Proper Name: Johan Alexander Santana
Born: March 13, 1979
He's 28 going on 29 dude, he'll pitch into his late 30's at a higher level then hughes will ever obtain.
