Cashman said he's going to move away from giving multiyear deals to relief pitchers (which is why Vizcaino is leaving) and I agree with that decision. Relief pitchers are so flukey; they're good one year and awful the next. Unless a guy is dominant out of the pen it's not worth the commitment.

The rest of the division is still in striking distance. And I'm not convinced it makes sense to trade 5 good prospects for a guy who will be a free agent in 12 months.

We're in striking distance of them. The Phils are probably better but not by much. The Braves blow, all they did was lose Andruw and Renteria. The Nats have no pitching and the Marlins have no anything.Quote:

Eh, that's overrated. The biggest factor is whether our young pitching in both the rotation and bullpen will rebound to live up to pre-07 expectations. I'm concerned that we are just not going to have enough arms, yet somehow last September will be to blame.
