Burg: Trade negotiations, let alone rumors about trade negotiations from Matthew Cerrone, are not the same as a trade actually happening. The Twins will not trade Santana to the Mets for a package of prospects now that Milledge is gone. It's going to take cost-controlled MLB-ready talent (i.e. Wright or Reyes). Understand?
MetsBlog is a very well respected source in general, but in this case, if you read, he was directly citing SI's Jon Heyman. Either way, they both wayyyyyyyy rate higher than the forum declarations of some dude that thinks Melky Cabrera is good at baseball.
If the Mets agree to pack up both Gomez and Martinez, we absolutely will acquire Santana, because our offer will destroy anything the Yanks or Sox will put up. Frankly, if this is the case, they will be robbing us blind.
Bottom line: I don't think Wilpon has any interest in giving anyone a 7 year contract at $25M per.
Olney threw this blurb out in his latest blog
"• Hideki Matsui might have already indicated to the Yankees that he's willing to waive his no-trade clause, and the Yankees can still make something happen with Dan Haren, Hank Steinbrenner indicates."
Why would the Yankees be looking to trade Matsui, and why would the A's want him considering he is older and makes a good salary?
Because they would get Dan Haren. And because they would eat salary.
As usual.
Also, even I know Metsblog is legit
