It's fucking 4am, I have to work in 4 hours, and I can not go back to sleep, my schedule for when I was off work is killing me right now.
I would go jog but it's like -5 outside right now, fuck that noise.

They are terrible for your knees and ankles.
Everything is terrible for you in one way or another, its about picking which ever you feel is the lesser of 2 evils. You could not buy a treadmill and bitch about how you can't go running in the winter time because it's too cold out, or you can buy a treadmill run on it during the winter time, and as long as you're not a retard probably not do enough damage to your knees or ankles to make any noticeable effect, but still bitch about how much its fucking up your knees and ankles.
I say buy a good treadmill with shock absorbers, and at least 2 or 3 DIFFERENT pairs of running shoes.
I see your point, but I owned a treadmill for a few years, and with my knees and ankles (both are shot from football/baseball) I would have to ice them up after a 20 minute run. I don't seem to have that problem when I run outside.
BTW, new balance are the only running shoes that matter, I still get 3 sets of cross trainers and running shoes from michigan for 24 dollars a pair!
I like Asics! And I was even psyched about $40 a pair at Kohl's when I got to PA. $24 is just ridiculous for quality shoes. Or any shoes.
Then I'm just going to say you suck at running on a treadmill because it seems like the right thing to say. My knees are shot from years of Aikido and Iaido, my one ankle is shot from fucking it up during a randori test. I have no problem running on the treadmill I have though, it has these big ass shock absorber things on the side that seems to help quite a bit.
I've had a lot of new balance over the years, and my father swears by them. Right now I have a pair of them, and a pair of Nikes. I don't really care for either one though, personally I've yet to find a pair of running shoes I actually like. I have a wide foot and that seems to make finding shoes and sneakers that fit right a pain in the ass.
Try the 765's

You can't really "suck" at running on a treadmill Shin, our atheletic trainers at Michigan would not even let us use them. I'll have to default to the experts theories that the consistant shock and pull is bad for your ligaments.
Confirmed!
Yeah, the 765 have a wider cushion on the bottom for people who distribute their weight midstream (which is why your feet get wider btw, that and kicking shit during training) you'll love them.
