Let's Meet on Skype This Week

I have something to announce to all of you and I think the best vehicle to do it is in a live voice chat. The reason is that I will want some feedback and I really want people who are interested to be engaged and involved. We can also use this opportunity to talk about how things are in general.

The best time for me is weekend afternoons, but as long as you don't want it during the day Monday through Friday, or in the middle of the night (like now), I will take suggestions on a better time.

I set up a tentative time at 5 PM Eastern/2 PM Pacific Time this coming Saturday, November 3. Let me know if you can make it.

To use Skype, you just need a headset that plugs into your computer (or a separate microphone and speakers, if you want to rock it 90s style) and the free Skype program. I signed up TNL as an affiliate, so if any of you decide to take advantage of the program's pay-to-use capabilities, I'll get a few bucks to feed back into the site. Just use the link in this post or in my signature.

This ought to be an interesting experiment, and I hope it's the first of many such chats and maybe some more podcasts. :)

Please, please don't do it on saturday. I'm going to be out of town for my cousin's bat-mitzvah from friday to sunday.

How does the audio quality in Skype compare to say, the RF ventrilo server?

I remember calling my girlfriend while she was in rome over skype, and the quality was less than stellar, but that could have been her phone or a bunch of other things.

All I know is, RF vent is crystal clear.

To answer some questions: I first started using Skype because someone I game with online was having major Ventrilo issues. The quality in all my Skype conversations has been excellent.

I thought about calling it a fireside chat, but I hope this is more give and take than you just listening to me.

Is Sunday better for everyone except bbobb and Cow? Sunday works just as well for me. No day will work for everyone.

I'm not even going to pretend that I've been a contributing member of TNL, but I'd be interested in sitting in on this call as well. Depending on what time Nick decides upon, I'll try to connect. If you download Skype from my link and decide you like it enough to try the pay-for-use services, I get a referral fee that I can then use for hosting. I think the program rocks, and I'd rather plug what I like than have Google Ads or some other company tell me what to promote.

Not to change the topic of the thread, but have you ever considered having a donation paypal link for the site (subscription or one time only donations), and forum members that donate can have a gay star next to their name or something.

We've been trying to get him to do it for years.

I am kind of lurker here but I would be willing to do it. It would have to be a pretty spectacular star next to my name though.

I have said that I will only put up a donation link on the boards when I am proud of the work I've done. There is donation information in the TNL Wiki, though. (PayPal to store@the-nextlevel.com ought to work.) A lot of you have put links to the TNL store in your signatures, and I love you for that. And Biff has been very generous this year.

What will it take for me to be "proud of the work I've done"? A release calendar that is always updated, monthly contests, and a sense of real forward momentum on the Wiki. Oh, and TNL shirts.

It has been one year and counting since I said all that would be done, but I have a good excuse, since I have made major, major strides in my personal life. I really have no overdue goals to meet in my personal life now, so I will do my best to focus more attention here. I'm finally going to make more of myself, and I will do what I can to help TNL become even greater than it is in 2008.

I'd be down for this, but I'm at work all day today and work till 5 tomarrow. I guess sunday after that would be best for me, but if not I'll just expect detailed reports from all of you about what went on.:)
