Super Mario All Stars = pure fun!

My wife's 8 year-old cousin came over today for a while, so I put SMAS for her to play. My wife, who loves and plays all the Mario games, wanted to play as well. They ended up playing SMW and SMB (I have the 4-in-1 cart) for over two hours.

While they were playing, I used the time to take a really good look at the games. It had been a while since I had last played them, and I was surprised at just how well they still hold up. The redone graphics in SMB are excellent, and the sound and music still get my gaming adrenaline going (great sound effects in stereo!). The colors are very crisp and bright, and everything just screams quality. I only wish Nintendo would do a Zelda or Metroid all stars. *drools*

We had so much damn fun with them. Makes me even more eager for Super Mario Sunshine.

Mario Allstars fun? now this is news to me.

I bought a used copy months ago when I got back into the Snes. I was in the 3rd or 4rth world in Mario 3 when the memory died.:(
Guess I'll have to tackle it like the nes version one day.

My take on Super Mario All-Stars...

They screwed up the gameplay royally in Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros 3 was ruined in the color department.

Other than that I love the collection.

Super Mario All Stars is one of, if that the best game one can buy. You have four of the best games made in the history of time (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World) PLUS you get The Lost Levels (Aka the original Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan). It really does not get much better then that in my book. I can play all of those games over and over and over again. One thing though, I have never been able to beat the final castle in The Lost Levels. I am lead to believe its impossiable. I think SMB3 looks much better on All Stars then on NES. Mainly due to the color improvments. They added more depth to things and just made it more solid. SMB3 on NES was very bland, with the big junks of solid color. But thats just my opinion.

Yep, I hate to rain on parades (actually, I don't), but the graphics overhaul is really shit. It's like they took Mario World's graphics, dumbed them down and slipped them into the others. It looks really ugly and out of place. And of course there are the control differences that aren't appreciated.

I hope they wouldn't do that to Zelda.

Rob, are you referring to just World or all the games in general? It's been long time since I played the original World cart, so I can't comment on any graphical differences. I personally like the enhancements in the other 3 games, especially part one.

However, I don't have any problems with gameplay. I find the SNES pad easier to play with than the old NES pad.

I also can't bear to think of playing through world 8 in Mario 3 without a save feature. I did that when it first came out and it was not fun at all. :sweat:

I hated how the got rid of the minus world.
