I'd go a step further. I don't understand why Whedon would bother with television anymore at this point. Every single show he does is either fucked with or canceled prematurely.
-Buffy had that whole fiasco after season 5 with UPN and WB.
-Angel was canceled after finally finding its footing in the middle of its best season.
-Firefly had the potential to be the best thing he'd ever done. Hell some say that one season is the best thing he's ever done, and it was squashed before it could really find an audience.
I know he ain't a quitter but he really should just give up on the T.V. thing at this point.
My girlfriend recently became obsessed with Buffy so she's trying really hard to get into Dollhouse. I was on the computer while she watched the first episode and it was laughably bad. Buffy's not at all my thing but I can see why she likes it (witty banter, pagan lesbian magic, vampire killing), but Dollhouse is pure drivel. Eliza Dushku is exposing herself as a horrible actress, and she needs to eat a sandwich. She looks a lot better with some meat on her bones.
She didn't already do this in Wrong Turn, Tru Calling, Bring It On, or The New Guy?
I love watching Dushku on-screen, but she's a horrible actress with only one type of character she can play: the hot, bitchy girl with a heart of gold deep down. Perfect for your Faith-type character, but I'm never going to kid myself to expect more than a lukewarm performance other than her having the "look & attitude" for the role.
The last 2 shows have been the best episodes so far, last nights episode had a gnarly twist. I really like seeing this back to back with T:TSCC. They just need to get it off of Friday nights.
I saw this last night. Seemed pretty good. I was surprised at how good it was given the shitting on it received so far, actually.
I just watched episode 2 on Fox's website after seeing 1 a bit ago.
I don't see what separates this from other TV shows as being particularly bad.
Maybe it's high expectations due to the pedigree? I loved Buffy, Angel AND Firefly.
And from what I read Dollhouse isn't Whedon's baby. He picked up someone else's concept and ran with it.
