Duane "Dog" Chapman's tape-recorded tirade has cost him his TV show.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" has been pulled off the air by A&E, the cable network announced Friday. The network stopped short of saying the show was canceled, apparently leaving open the possibility of a return with new episodes or reruns.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take Dog The Bounty Hunter off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," A&E said in prepared statement. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Yum Brands, which advertised Taco Bell, KFC and Pizza Hut on "Dog the Bounty Hunter," had pulled all of its ads, calling Chapman's comments "despicable."
Production of the Hawaii-based reality show was suspended earlier this week after it was reported that Chapman made repeated racial slurs in a tape-recorded phone conversation with his son, Tucker.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" went on the air in 2004 and was one of A&E's highest rated shows, averaging 1.2 million viewers in primetime.
Chapman, who owns Da Kine Bail Bonds in downtown Honolulu, has apologized for repeatedly using a racial slur to refer to his son's girlfriend, who is African American.
The Associated Press reported on Friday that Tucker Chapman taped the phone call with his father, and sold it to the National Enquirer, which posted the tape on its Web site on Wednesday.
And here's the recorded conversation in question:
Yeah, he's saying "nigger" a lot, but he's using it in a weird way. I have a feeling that the conversation may be taken out of context in some way, especially since we're only hearing a small fraction of it. Then again, it's hard to defend the "If Lisa was dating a nigger, we'd say fuck you" comment. Gee, who'd ever think a trailer-trash guy with black leather, Oakleys, and a long flowing mullet would hate teh blacks?
That tomfoolery aside, Dog's son looks like a real dick, fucking his own father over like this. I mean, I don't know what their relationship was like IRL, but it'd have to be really fucking bad to justify something as scummy as recording the conversation and selling it to the tabloids.

I don't know who's the bigger idiot, Dog, or his son that basically cut his ties with the family, by backstabbing and ending a lucrative career in doing so?
Basically Dog is saying: When we use the term "niggers" it's totally not in a negative way but when those nice black people hear us say it, in a totally good way mind you, they're gonna crucify us and cost us our careers. Oh and don't come back home 'til you've broken up with your absolutely wonderful African princess.
I've watched Dog and enjoyed it but of I don't think you can really take that outta context. He's a total hypocrite being a self-professes Christian and preaching to his quarry and all that BS.
There's really no way for him to spin this. He's basically saying "Break up with your black girlfriend so I can go back to calling them niggers like we all do all the time."

Why should he be penalized for something that almost everyone does anyway? So he said nigger. Big fucking deal. How many people who watch his show have never called someone a nigger, or at least discussed the topic candidly?
He didn't say anything offensive in public and he's being held to a higher standard than almost any black person in the entertainment industry.
I think he's a bit of tool to begin with and he's undeniably white trash, but losing his television career over a private conversation is a little harsh.

I could give two shits about Dog but the persona he's built is of a an ex con who found God in prison and now brings people to justice with his family. Plus a major sponsor pulled their ads to cover their own asses. People can be racist as much as they want in private but once they're exposed it will damage/kill your career like Michael Richards and Imus.

Should have known there was something wrong when he and his family would pray before each bounty, and then when they caught the person, instead of "understanding", Dog would curse that person out with every word in the book.

That doesn't mean you can call her a nigger. It's offensive and shows his ignorance. Oh, it's ok to be racist in private, but have a show that makes you rich based on the fact that you are an upstanding person? I will never understand how somebody who isn't black can ever understand or say the word nigger isn't offensive. Basically, I see it as ok to use the word, but not to refer to people. That's the only context I can defend it in. It's ok to make a joke where it's said for shock value or in an absurd context because it's funny, but if it's like "How many niggers does it take to..." then it's not ok, because you're just using it as a term for a race of people and it has nothing to do with being funny.
Also: Most white comics (and nearly all black comic) I've seen live have used the word at some point in their act. This is why I thought it was retarded when comedy clubs tried to ban the word after the Michael Richards thing.
Now Dog might have legitimate reasons to not like this woman his son is dating, but the way he's talking about how he has some right to throw around racial slurs that's being violated is retarded. I'm glad I don't live in a state where people feel comfortable doing that.

Honestly, the N-word is not something one should use so liberally. The descendants of Canaan need only be taught the word of the lord to find salvation from their curse. They need to be shown the way with love and compassion not with demeaning and dehumanizing speech. I'll add prayer for ''Dog'' this night, I'll put it between my prayers for sodomites and ''scientists.''

I really think racism is kind of funny, and kind of okay. Everyone is always going to harp on the differences between each other. You can't stop that -- you never will. It's like running a war on terror. You can't stop terror. When you turn the lights off at night some children are terrified (pussy kids, mostly). I don't give a shit if someone is black, or someone is white. You get the same treatment from me regardless (it's the same mentality I brought to the door opening thread).
It's when people just stop caring and laughing at the differences between us when you truly get beyond that and move on to accomplish something meaningful. So yeah, we like cornbread and watermelon. And we like potatoes and drink a lot. And we like rice and are good at math. Okay, lets move on. So basically the recoiling and gasping people do when hearing the word nigger is empowering it.

I don't look at people based on skin-color and I think modern "civil rights" is part of the racism problem. We all need to stop focusing on who is black, white or yellow and just start looking at each other as people.
I was speaking about Barrack Obama with somebody recently and they said they didn't think he could become President because he was black. Before this conversation, I never looked at Barrack Obama and said "he's black", I judged him just as I would anybody else.

There's some twisted obsession with the idea that the word 'nigger' is single-handedly oppressing black people, and it's just silly.
There is a lot of racism and a lot of racist people in america, and trying to sweep it under the rug and pretend it's just some fringe element is only going to make things worse.

It was the highest rated show on A&E before the network pulled it off the air in November. Chapman was heard in a taped phone conversation using a racial slur in reference to his son's black girlfriend.
Chapman has apologized and tried to make amends with the network and the black community.
