Recently, I added IE7 to my PC and it has caused all sorts of problems. One of them being my CPU (A Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz each core) isn't being fully utilized. It now clocks in at 1.60 MHz per core and XP no longer lists it by name in system info.
I've had to reseat the heatsink today since I'm using the stock one and it's a piece of shit, thinking it would fix that problem. Alas, it hasn't.
Anyone have a reason for this?
1.60 Mhz or Ghz? It sounds like Speedstep at work if it's Ghz.
Google CPU-Z and see if it recognizes your CPU.
Also, why IE7?

Anyway, CCleaner recognizes the CPU but not XP. I wll google CPU-Z.
Some motherboards will underclock your CPU until more power is needed, and actually call it a "feature." On mine it's called D.O.T. control and simply required me to disable it. CPU-Z would then recognize running at its full speed all the time.
CPU-Z says 1.60 GHz as well. I went to BIOS and optimized it but nothing. Please note that this didn't happen until I added IE7. I will check my mobo again but I won't hold my breath.

razor, uninstall IE7 first. for some reason people get really broken installs. then reinstall it. we'll take it from there after you do that.
also what does your BIOS say the chip is at? if the BIOS says the lower speed then something else is fubar.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing. I guess I can do it for a third time.
And BIOS said 1.60 GHz. I thought it was the thermal paste so I replaced that and nothing.
