I'd attribute that mainly to poor technical directing and writing, not so much alternative reality.
I wasn't aware that Salvation had Judgement Day placed at 2011 but I could be incorrect about it following the events at the end of Terminator 3. It does carry over the character "Kate" from Terminator 3 however and up until now I thought that the film was following the lines of the nuclear war that occurred at the end of T3.
I think the thing with sequels is, if there's a date that's going to make an uninitiated audience go "wait, what? that's already happened/is really close to now!", they'll drop it, regardless if it making sense or not to the continuity.
Just roll with it.
Oh, I never said it was intentional. I just said you're better off not trying to connect them and just enjoying the robosplosions.
The only reason this is all fresh in my mind is because I had to write a retrospective on the series for work recently, and when you watch them back to back you notice a lot of stuff doesn't add up.
