So is DoDonPachi, which I guess is just MvC2 with spaceships.

It totally is.
Wait, is there a beam attack? Are they... THE SAME GAME?!
I wouldn't call either "spazzy" (mostly because I don't know if I can qualify "spazzy" anyway) but they're definitely fast and can seem pretty uncontrolled if you don't know what's happening, yeah. I still shit on MvC2, but honestly, I started playing it again this year and I don't know what it is but I'm finally starting to "get" it.
GG may have ridiculous names for everything but nothing about it is really complicated once you get down to it. In general I find these things a lot easier if you fuck around with everything and then learn the details later.
Also DoDonPachi is dog shit because it doesn't have Shuma Gorath.
Oh shit, is that the tate version of MvC2?
Anyway.
The first GG game I've played was ^Core, and as someone who doesn't follow the series, it sucks. Not just that it's "confusing", which besides the nonsense Janglish terminology running througout the thing, the game isn't all that complicated, it's just that a lot of things going on in it don't make sense in a fighter.
I hit somebody with an overhead strike. They get launched skyward. Ok... Now I jump after them, and hit them with a 12-hit combo, each hit of which does maybe 1/8 the damage of landing one fierce attack. Then I bust out a one-hit fatality. Right.
Maybe it's awesome in competitive play, but just messing around trying to learn the game with friends is, so far, totally stupid. Maybe the previous games are better? Doubtin' it.
Hmm... This is a tough one.

Oh man, I had no idea there was a Wii version.
okay, this was going to be a long post attempting to defend the wacky crap in GG, but now that I think about it I don't know why IKs are still in the game. When a buddy of mine picked up the first GG years and years ago we thought they were stupid and took turns pissing each other off with them. They're slightly less stupid now, but I still don't think they should be there.
Honestly, when I bought the game I came in willing to overlook the character designs and enjoy it, but that kind of crap is just too much. When a game's got moves you have to agree not to use in order to play it properly, there's major issues.
